I can’t wait for the day when Tanks and Supports are so scarce you DPS players will be left to yourselves.

she gave every one a small health increase as a shield generator.
If they want all supports to have healing then they should rename the category to healing.
they need to have supports that don’t heal to make it more interesting

Yeah, a bunch of them (Turns out its like, 2 supports and one tank because they will change 2-2-2 to 1-3-2).

I mean, in hindsight it was obvious. Imagine launching her instead of Bap or Sigma. The outrage would be even greater .

I’m not done, nor am I disappointed with Echo’s design; it’s great. But I AM disappointed we didn’t get another support hero to round out the most underrepresented role.

Comp will be fun too … picture this … you wait 20 minutes Queue time to play echo you manage to nab her at the selection screen … other dps gets a tad salty and quits the game back to the queue for you

She should have been yank or support but nope gotta keeps the deeps happy

She’s a dps hero, in a dps slot. Not using her ultimate to set up kills or get kills would be a waste to the team.

DPS heroes used to take up half of the roles, too. It used to be Defense/Offense/Support/Tank. Hence why there are more of them.

I used to main both. Sym was much more support focused than Torb. Torb issue was that a lot of people played him like TF2 engie and just stood by their turrets hammering it, instead of making use of his cheetos gun. Sym, on the other hand, was expected to created and play around her nest, but many non-mains tried to play her as a discount Reaper, going for sick flanks and trying to beam people to death.

Aka, Torb was a fully DPS hero with a bit of support, that most people played as support and then misjudge him as weak, while Sym was a full fledged support with a strong situational gun that people keep trying to extract value while ignoring her support focus, then misjudge her as “actually a dps”.

Her only support mechanism existed in the form of her ult. Torb provided constant healing in a manor that I am pretty sure they used as the baseline for Brigg (rather fitting lore wise). THAT is a support ability; her ult is a good support ult but the rest of her kit is not support which is why if you combine them BOTH you have a support but alone neither is and I would say Torb was more support than Sym

If her shield gen was an ability then you could make the argument she was a support. The fact that is was not is part of why Blizzard admitted she was not a support even before the rework.

A support can obviously do more then heal the team but they have to at least provide some of that. Torb provided that and that and sym provided a support ult which is why combined they made a support (and honestly I loved having both on my team together but not separately) but individually they were just not a support but not a good enough damage to be a damage.

Role queue is the answer.

If we didn’t had role queue, I wouldn’t care what role she was listed under, just like I think Sombra and Brigitte were misplaced at release, but individual hero sinergy is more important than ensuring a 222 formation, so whatever.

In a world where you demand equal role distribution, it’s the most basic understanding that you also should have somewhat equal numbers of choices in each role. Making any DPS hero at all before we reach that point is just worsening the queue time problem.

Shield Gen charged fast enough that it could be considered a long cooldown ability, just like Tracer pulse bomb.

I consider Symmetra 2.0 (and Sombra) support units because in my mind, the definition of a support is being a force multiplier. They can turn a 1 into a 10, but can’t make a 1 out of a 0. Supports make their whole team perform better while not really putting the spotlight upon them.

Sym used to have a strong field presence. That made the enemy team hesitate, and harshkyy punished uncoordinated attacks. Shield Gen break HP balance numbers and forced the enemy team to divert focus from the main objective. And her piercing orbs while not lethal on their own, would exert enough pressure to bunker formations because gathering behind a shield was no longer safe grounds.

By herself, she don’t really do much, and lacked the burst power to clutch fights on her own. But everything together would allow her team to simply perform better.

(Not that discussing it matter much, the best versions of Torb and Sym will never return anyway)

Getting an extra 75 health (in the form of armor) was amazing especially when you paired it with Sym and it became 350 health. You could basically get super aggressive, win the fight and then get healed up by your Ana/Mercy who would be ready for the next fight with an ult.

Yes they could not keep up, but they did not need to because 350 damage is a lot to do to get 1 kill on a support/DPS. However, alone neither was a support.

Basically to argue Sym was a support you are not just arguing with me, you are with both the devs and every top player at the time, because both conceded she was not a support.

What’s baffling to me is the amount of DPS players actually happy for Echo being a DPS when most DPS players complain about que times as it is. All this is going to do is make it longer…

Unless the devs make 132 a thing then I mean, I’m just not too excited since I will mostly be waiting a long time to use her and then only miss her when someone else grabs her by a second faster lol Rip
