I only started something like 10 months ago - a little while before the hog rework, whenever that was. Got hooked on Hog. It felt real fun at first but as other heroes started to appear in my games as things got unlocked and as I played against players with more heroes unlocked, the fun started to fade a bit.
The super-orisa era was terrible and I gave up playing for 3 weeks and then because I got so sick of Ana and Sombra (mostly Ana but playing hog into ana+sombra is tortuous) I moved to playing only DPS for 3-4 weeks.
I didn’t enjoy that much really and came back to tank a few weeks ago, but the armour changes and the buffs to all tanks except Hog (who had just been nerfed twice) actually has me thinking of taking another month off.
I would say, for a new player, there are a lot of ups and downs. There are so many obvious problems in the game (hi Ana and Sombra) that the devs won’t address that it is also a very frustrating game to stick to beyond the new player feel.
I stick around solely to try to find that “next great game”. I’ve had a few - not that many though - and they felt so good. Like a gambler looking for that next win, the dopamine fix is real.
I got my daughter to play as she loves FPS games, but doesn’t usually play PvP, and she lasted about 2 hours before Sombra started to wear on her and she quit. She loved playing support, but having Sombra spawn camp 2 games in a row was too much and she went back to her single-player games, which was a shame for me as I wanted her as a duo as she is very good at gaming in general.
