Regardless of the technicalities, I think it would make more sense for it to function like this:
Base form=Recon
E=Tank
Shift=Sentry
Your transformation key of your current form=return to base form
This would mean he could shift between all three form with ease, instead of having to go from tank to recon in order to get to sentry.
I was hoping for a rework we remove ironclad from sentry, still tighten spread, add a 600 hp barrier as a e ability that can be toggled and deactivated anytime, and revert the tank mode changes from the rework.
That sounds interesting, but I would tweak the barrier to be passive in sentry, but only regen while out of sentry at the same rate Reinhardt and Brigitteās do.
I think the idea is it acts the same as now. Push shift or E to get the respective modes and push the key of the mode youāre in to go to recon.

Iād give bastion 2 new abilities, both only usable in turret form.
Combat pack: 12 sec cooldown
Bastion tosses a large hp pack that also refills your clip. Can be hacked by Sombras on both teams. Only one pack can exist at a time.
Blue door (name is not final): 20 second cooldown.
Bastion shoots out a barrier with 250 hp.
It is as small as possible while still protecting Bastion if he is behind it, even in Sentry form.
The projectile that produces the barrier moves in a linear path, unlike Orisaās.
These are meant to give Bastion more utility aside from his damage. They also allow him to set up precautionary measures to defend himself or help him set up (again, he can only use either new ability while in turret form, after finishing the transformation), and make clutch saves.
