Are we allowed to emote mid match?

I remember a thread on this forum asking whether we were allowed to t-bag on an enemy after a kill, and I remember one of the mods shutting it down because it “incited unsportsmanlike behavior” or something like that (I’m paraphrasing). I’m wondering if it’s the same for emoting after a kill. I figure this is different than t-bagging, because this is an actual feature that the devs bothered to put into the game. Seriously, why would every hero in the game have a laugh emote if players weren’t meant to laugh at something? I’m just asking, not trying to incite any sort of behavior any which way.

You can be reported for toxicity or throwing (if you proceed to get killed and lose the fight/objective), I suppose.

Not sure really. I know there’s been instances of tea-bagging in OWL matches and the pro who did it wasn’t punished, though the observer panned away quickly and the casters avoided talking about it.

It’s some kind of frowned-up thing I think. Not strictly actionable.

Emotes can be silly. But t-bagging is something that only 12 year olds find funny.

Sure its immature, but its so heavily ingrained in gaming culture that its hard to avoid.

I can’t imagine getting actioned for using a spray, emote, or even a “tactical crouch” after a kill.

The previous thread getting shut down could be for a lot of reasons besides “crouching is bannable”. If I were to hazard a guess, I’d assume it was because the thread was running away with creative excuses to be as rude as possible to one’s enemy without technically getting banned, which is definitely unsportsmanlike.

[Edited to add: In general though, I think rubbing your enemy’s nose in the fact you killed them is almost always pretty tacky.]

The fact that this question is asked seriously and gets serious answers says a lot about how coddled and report-happy the overwatch playerbase is.

Today I learned that I’m actually 12.
Huh, who knew.

It can also be a wonderful distraction technique.
Tea bag enough people after killing them, and soon enough you might just find that many of the players on the other team have a new objective - kill you. Which means they most likely forget about the actual objective making it easier for my team to win

If you ever see anyone tea-bagging, then just tell Ana to drink her tea later.

Sorry. I ruined it.

You shouldn’t emote during a game unless you get a team kill, then nobody can kill you and you actually deserve the emote for all your hard work

I like building snowmen all over the course.
And sitting on the payload can give you a better view of who is coming, especially as D.Va sit on the tank and see around the corner.

I’m honestly surprised people still T Bag lol thats like Pre Halo levels of old :yum:

As far as emotes go whenever I get kills I always say have a nice day or do a vaulvadle. Dont think emotes are reportable unless its like constant every 5 seconds.

I had a Dva winky face everytime she died and got a kill. Well her own team completely ignored her and let her fend for herself lol it was hilarious.

The reason emotes are in the game is to promote the characters, and to add some humor and a tad bit of individualism to each player’s style. You’re meant to use them in a variety of situations funny, humorous, lighthearted, or when you’re winning the game.

Crouching is in the game to make you harder to see and hear. You’re meant to use it to gain a tactical advantage. Subsequently, it was nerfed in speed to cut down on obnoxious conduct.

Emotes =/= tea bagging. Stop equating the two. Use your emotes (and voice lines). I do all the time.

I wish it was possible to emote in battle without being killed… Because there are so many times when, as Reinhardt, I dearly want to use his taunt or his warrior’s salute against an honored opponent (like OTHER REINHARDT. HELLO BROTHER).

Sadly, the length of time it takes to salute or taunt means the other team will kill you long before you’re done.

On the other hand, Sexy Junkrat pose is good for anywhere, any occasion, especially when riding the payload to victory.

It’s interesting that people always go to this without much else to say. :man_cartwheeling:

“You don’t like my bad manners? You’re a coddled snowflake!!!1”

Sexy Junkrat (Junkratting?) is the easiest way to get me to pocket you when I’m on mercy , or by throwing a mine then running up to say hello with that darling little finger waggle swoon

Lol I do Lúcio’s crunk dance all the time in battle, and his laugh. I live more often than not.

I mean it shouldn’t be something to get reported for, but doing it mid match, probably isn’t the smartest, since if your emoting you can’t move and an easy target. If you got like a huge team wipe, by all means go ahead and emote t-bag, whatever. If you killed a single person that’s spawn camping you and no other enemies are around sure, t-bag and emote. But if you finally killed that Tracer that’s been bugging you and emote in the middle of a team fight, expect to get killed and possibly reported by your teammates (I don’t think it’s reportable but many would see it as feeding, or throwing)
