Are the big midyear patches not a thing anymore?

I mean in terms of things that actually affect gameplay it’s about equivalent to last season. The partial leak of the patch notes suggests nothing too crazy is changing. The absence of the hero reworks is most noticeable

I have a feeling they’re shaking up the schedule a bit because of blizzcon, like they’ll some meat left on the bones for seasons 5 and 6 so they can show it off there

We are getting a competitive reset, thank heavens! Map reworks, D.Mon, a new group drive feature, a new battle pass system where you choose the rewards you want. For a new season, I feel this is all substantial. Is tuning needed? Yeah of course but I wouldnt call that a big patch

Did they say they’re doing another reset? I really hope not, because all that does is knock people down a few ranks while still matching them with the same people, and it always takes me the whole season just to get back where I already know I belong. It’s super annoying. I just hit Champ this season, and I really don’t want to have to grind through Master and GM again. I’d rather just keep playing at my rank. I always get placed Master 4 or 5 after a reset.

This year’s big change was the rebrand + 5 hero drop

Substantial… For an ant.

Yeah there’s a rank reset since the rank system itself is going to be slightly different

But yeah that usually means more “OMG MATCHMAKING!!!” complaints

Comp reset and some map reworks isn’t nothing.
And yeah, I’m sure they have to save something for blizzcon.

Good one, very clever

comp reset kinda is nothing tbh

I’d agree with you, but I just did drives.
This one was rough.
I welcome another restart.
Maybe +1 rank to fall into will help.

Also, did you notice the “team drive” thing isn’t at the end of the seaon? It’s literally a month from now.
I think they are sperate.
Hope you guys like more drives.

Perhaps the Devs are “playing it safe” and not doing a big midyear patches/updates/reworks anymore?

My guess is that they’re hoarding the biggest changes for Blizzcon, to ensure that they have a lot of cool stuff to show off during the event.

Calling it now: a huge chunk of Blizzcon’s Overwatch panels are probably gonna be dedicated to hyping up and showing off the major hero reworks they’ve been teasing for the past year, before revealing that all of them are scheduled to hit live servers simultaneously (similarly to when they released 5 new heroes at the same time for maximum chaos).

Rank resets are just a miserable experience for everyone.

It’s a way to make some people feel better and force everyone else to just grind more.

Thank heavens?

You want terrible match making for another month?

soft reset plus releasing a new tank

Brother, the matchmaking is going to be horrendous
