Are Blizzard to scared of the backlash they'll receive for nerfing Mercy?

Or season 4-5? Except no invul when Mass Rez

I wouldn’t have a complaint about Mercy of her pickrate weren’t reaching nearly 40% of all healer picks.

All pro players in all sports will try to have rules adjusted to suit their favor. Overwatch is no exception, and there’s no saying otherwise – Seagull literally has Jeff Kaplan’s phone number and goes out to company lunches during events.

I’ll repeat myself in case you haven’t seen it;

Keep in mind, I’m saying this as a fan of Seagull.

Seagull doesn’t particularly care for Mercy anymore. He got what he wanted out of the entire ordeal, which was removing Mass Rez from the game… furthermore, Mercy was nerfed multiple times afterwards.

He can think that Mercy’s in a perfectly fine spot now and not request any further changes, and with the majority of OWL pros echoing that opinion (because Mercy regularly gets countered and picked) there’s nothing more to be done.

I mean, what would you expect the backlash to be when you NERFED THE HERO 5 TIMES AFTER 1 REWORK.

Anybody would be mad except the ones who dislike Mercy. I stopped playing Mercy after the nerf because I lost all enjoyment I had with her and it would be ridiculous for them to keep nerfing her while not addressing the main problem with her.

You realize that the same thing can be said when it comes to Genji, Tracer, Dive, Roadhog 2.0, Release Doomfist, Ironclad Bastion, Beyblade, Widowmaker, Hanzo, etc.

If we’re going to make statements like this my man, we have to be fair and say this as a universal constant.

The “solo-ult the mercy for an EZ win” version?

She’d probably still be great for 90% of the playerbase and useless for the other 10%. Is that what people really want?

Nah, season 3 Mercy was still almost as powerful as season 3 Ana for the bottom 85% of the playerbase.

And Ana isn’t anywhere near season 3 power levels.

Would need to go lower than season 3 Mercy.

They would need to remove invulnerability on her huge rez. So many heroes can take advantage of that. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to make her invulnerable during huge rez. =|

GA was also buffed during her rework. that is why she is a B to even kill now.

Absolutely false. These are games made for the players, not the developer. We each have the right to express our feelings about balance and provide suggestions and feedback.

She was a troll pick or like D-tier, she’d be better

And lower the healing output, and longer regen initialization.

No, she was fine. Literally perfect, just needed no invul and shes good

Healing is fine, it always has been, so is the regen

That would drop her out of viability. The reason people are having trouble with her right now is not being able to punish her for being out of position. She is way too mobile. I remember being out of position was certain death as mercy. GA works differently than it originally did.

Actually wasn’t really thrilled on the GA changes, I thought it was too much.

Absolutely, but you conveniently (for your point) cut out parts of my message that continued saying “and hopefully that person takes input from the community and the majority of the player base”… the player base is where your opinion comes in. So you should absolutely express it… and I think it should be heard. But when one person who is not employed by Blizzard becomes so influential that they shape the decisions of the game designers then something is wrong… especially since said player is a pro player an play at a way higher level than the majority of the player base… I don’t think we want a tradeoff where the game is only good for the OWL but really boring and terribly balanced for the majority of the player base.

You don’t belong on an Overwatch forum if you don’t play Overwatch. This shouldn’t be a discussion. That’s just how it is. Sorry.

This is a thread. It’s about Mercy’s balance. I could care less if someone who has never touch Overwatch was complaining about Hammond being a hamster.

Play the game if you want to have a legitimate voice in balance discussions. It isn’t rocket science.

Those are just filled with people complaining about their ranks.

None of this is on the PTR.

This was on his stream. I guarantee he would be okay with Mercy nerfs.

As for Mercy being countered, no, she just straight up isn’t. She’s in every game and a must pick. She isn’t being countered at all.

So maybe increase the GA cooldown to 5 seconds?

No, they shouldn’t be. The people that complain about anything in this game are a vocal minority and don’t represent the majority of the player base. Blizzard really shouldn’t make decisions based on what “the rest of the internet” says and should look at their own numbers of how many players are playing & what they’re playing.

Mercy’s pickrate at the beginning of S9 right after nerfs was about 3.5% as people believed her to be T_(rash)_-tier and as people got used to her she slowly climbed up to 7% at the beginning of S10. At the same time the current meta hit live as Hanzo was reworked and in less than 3 weeks Mercy’s popularity almost doubled. Why? For the exact reasons that I listed above. So if you guys really don’t have anything else to back your personal opinions than her pickrate I think that the nerfs and reworks you’re hungering for aren’t going to happen as there’s no reason for Blizzard to do either of these.

EDIT: Also of course she was a must pick in the older metas as she was blatantly broken. Then they nerfed her and nerfed her until she was in a balanced and healthy spot.

I would be perfectly happy to play the game if the game brought me more entertainment than grief. But it no longer does, and I would like to have that addressed. Should I subject myself to the torture of playing Overwatch just to express my opinion that may help steer the game towards a state when I would be happy to play the game again? I’m not a masochist, nor do I get paid by Blizzard to play the game…
