Anyone else not looking forward to losing more maps in OW2?

They didn’t try anything (outside or adjusting some timers at one point). They tried to fix horizon once and gave up from doing anything else.
That was about it.

We got an entire experimental card dedicated to one of their failed attempts :joy:

And then Jeff detailed a bunch of other things that they tried on Reddit:

I suggest you either actually put in at least somewhat of an effort to inform yourself or stop spouting nonsense on stuff you have no info on.

There are so many 2CP maps, there’s no way they don’t rework them into hybrid/push/payload maps.

Which, where, when, how?

none of which was released for testing on live so you can stop embarrassing yourself.

The statement was “They didn’t try anything” not “They didn’t release anything on live” :joy:

Seems more like you’re the one who isn’t trying. This is truly mind-numbing stuff.

I second this. There are things that will not make it out of internal testing because it sucks too much lol

Like… Why are you being such a tryhard to dunk on OW? There’s really easy ways to do it, but telling someone the devs didn’t try anything because it didn’t go live is silly.

As for the topic, if it were up to me we’d lose 2CP today.

Every time i think I might miss some of them like Anubis, I play Numbani and wish they were removing more.

Of course I’m not. I hate the idea of “take the content away from the game that desperately needs content”. Paris was Hammond’s best map, he can spin there for days. It’s mostly the DPS mains that hate these maps cause “wait 10 minutes to play a 2-minute game”. Well, you guys wanted role queue and claimed you were “fine with longer queues for a balanced team”, but now it’s bad. And I can fully see us losing maps like Havana soon cause there’s a lot of complaining about those too.

At best, they’re gonna be in the workshop. Really doubt they’ll put in a special 2CP mode in the arcade. I do hope they don’t just delete them, cause it’s just wasting assets. Even Heroes of the Storm still has Haunted Mines in custom game map pool.

i think both leaserships of ow (2016-2022)
have mentioned at the release of kanezaka (save misspelled that one) that hanamura was one if not the nr1 asthetic map the team has ever made? something into that Direction…

Atleast i think to remember that team 4 really likes the looks of hanamura. So i am pretty darn confidend that these assets are not lost to the void.

HLC and Paris are my absolute favorite 2CP maps.
That’s still just somewhere middle of the pack if you compare them to the entire map pool, but I nevertheless enjoyed those maps a lot.

i wont miss it, too much time waiting around on defense and running back on offense

Based on the OW2 gameplay trailer the maps will be used for PvE at least

They should just figure out another way of measuring win or loss in a match, the objective has never been popular anyway and sometimes it’s nigh on impossible getting people on the bloody thing to begin with. They’re too buys pew pew pew to care about that.

With that in mind they should rework the 2CP maps to work towards this.

Depends on who you ask, I guess.

As a Junkrat player? Nope. I am not looking forward to more open maps while losing maps that were more in his favour (Anubis)

My best game ever as Junkrat was on Paris 1st point Defense.

Side note: I wish that when you mute/ignore somebody on the forums that it’d do the same when somebody else quotes them. :face_exhaling:

Funny I’m the complete opposite, too bad the game doesn’t let you customize the queue at all.

2cp in 5v5 would be really bad. I’d be happy if they removed 2cp from ow1, even just one season of no 2cp and 6v6 would be nice. They have abandoned ow1 though, it wont happen.

Keep in mind we have 2 new push maps, 1 new hybrid map, and 2 more maps with a new game mode yet to be released. In other words we are gaining 5 maps, loosing 3, or we are breaking even if you include HLC and Paris.

Edit; oh and dont forget we are getting old maps with a yellow Instagram filter added to them

Ah, where to start on this…

Okay, first off, I think removing content from a game still within its functional lifespan (like Overwatch, despite what some people like to preach) is generally a bad idea. This time, I think it was kind of necessary as some part of the playerbase pretty much forced the devs to do it. I still don’t like it, even if the maps that were removed certainly weren’t my favourites either, but I can easily see why it was done.

As for removing the whole Assault map type/mode for OW2, I think it’s a sensible decision. It’s the single mode with the most disliked maps, including the two removed ones. The reasons for people disliking it seem to also be rather commonly recognized, and quite inherent in both the mode and its general map design. And when an opportunity comes to reset some things in OW2 (whether you consider it a true sequel, an overhyped expansion or a glorified patch), it’s a good point to get rid of or replace some of the old, less-liked features - even if some people still like those.

I do believe that the Assault gamemode in general and its maps could’ve been worked into something more entertaining. But that would’ve required essentially redesigning them (both the mode and its maps) from the ground up, with a different design philosophy in mind, putting in work equivalent to designing new maps in all aspects but the visual. Even then, it would have had some of the old mode’s baggage attached, and so it’s all the same to just figure out a completely new mode and hopefully recycle some of the old assets.

While the devs did mention at one point doing a completely new mode to replace Assault (separate from Push; that one’s not the replacement mode), they haven’t told us anything more after that. That comment was easily missed, and not getting any more confirmation afterwards does eat up the community’s faith on the replacement mode actually happening. If they did show us some sort of glimpse of that (a teaser, a confirmation that it’s still happening, or better yet, access in the next beta), I believe a lot of the complaints about removed content would quiet down.

And I still want to stress that I don’t think it was the developers’ fault that the two maps got removed from the pool. A certain part of the community purposefully made other players’ lives in those maps miserable by constantly leaving them and thus wasting those other players’ valuable time (and their own, too, to be honest). They are the ones responsible, they effectively forced the devs to react in a rather extreme way. There might’ve been other options, but they would have been just as drastic, and possibly more disruptive.

2cp can be fun, and some of the maps look great.

However, 2cp has a lot of issues and most of the time either a complete blowout for one side or it takes forever because both sides are so evenly matched.

I hope they rework those maps for the new mode (the one that they announced but say nothing else about, not Push)

Oh so 2CP will be an arcade mode in general?
