I kinda hope they don’t do masters/gm border because that would lead to confusion “I’m masters level/I’m masters rank/I’m masters border/I’m a masters player”
and instead continue with the metals/gems and do a ruby border, emerald border, amethyst border, opal border thats rainbow etc
I play a lot of LOTRO where they have festival borders. It would be cool to have the same for OW too. I don’t like broadcasting how much I play this game through level borders tbh, would be nice to have more options.
Based on my experience of playing the Overwatch 2 demo, it seems like they reworked the hud design to not properly fit any level experience borders… this may be a sign that they will be removing that decorative entirely. This is probably a good thing as it leaves less assumptions about players during the course of a match. (i.e. “LOL Diamond Border in Silver Rank, we’re screwed”, “That bronze border must be a smurf”).
I am anticipating there will be no more borders being made if this is truly the case.
i’d say it’s fair, it’s not like it’s balancing anything, or making any fancy 3D models
it’s literally coloring in something for people who have played an incredible amount of their game

there’s no “level” shown, but that doesn’t mean the border couldn’t be added, i mean, was anyone “above level 100” in the gameplay they showcased?

Correct and it was just the demo (which you do not sign onto BattleNet). There is not telling what they have planned for HUD design or recognizing player progression. But I feel there is some key changes coming that should help reduce toxicity from misinterpreting information about a player on screen.
I haven’t even hit silver yet…
It’s going to suck big time to lose the diamond border. It’s just soooo shiny.
Awe I’m close to hitting silver border finally, I will be sad if that goes in Overwatch 2. I guess it will still be in the pvp though?
technically im gold border due to the accounts i have on both xbox and pc but havent hit a new border on one account yet
I’d rather them just scrap the borders entirely, tbh. It very rarely translates to anything meaningful, and it’s extremely rare that anyone else actually cares aside from trying to use it as a toxic remark (e.g. “Do you ever do anything other than play OW???”).
Replace it with something more private/personal that’s not visible to other players to keep the sense or progress.

Second of all, I agree. We could use a new border.
Its just meant the world to me, myself.
If they take it away, I’d be hurt.
They may replace it, but its something I’ve earned through sheer love for the game.
Toxicity is always going to be a thing, regardless of what they pick at you for.
“Re-working” a cosmetic aspect of the game wouldnt be outrageous to look into.
Maybe a prestige like COD had, where you restart at bronze border with a glow or something, but dang.
New borders would be neat.
