tbh i would check out some of Jayne’s videos on youtube. he has a couple where he coaches a bronze rein player, and he coaches so many support players as well. im sure you can learn a thing or two from there and easily climb to plat or even higher depending on how much effort you put into learning/realizing your mistakes
I honestly don’t understand why people make comments like this in threads of this sort. You know exactly what the OP means. It’s not funny. If anything it’s kind of annoying and insulting to the OP who is asking for legitimate tips.
When you actually want good responses and other people are providing them you’re better off not replying if this is all you have to add.
I have the same problem. I used to be Gold, then fell to Silver, and now… this season I have managed to descend into Bronze and can’t seem to win. Like, at all.
I decided to take a break for like a week. I also realized that I shouldn’t play when I am very tired.
I wish you luck!
It’s just a joke. The rest of us all gave serious answers. Did you really need to pick on the one guy who’s trying to lighten the mood in this depressing thread just to virtue signal?
Lighten the mood? The OP asked for help. Didn’t realize this was a heavy subject.
And as someone who’s made similar threads on forums before it’s annoying asking for help and getting at best an incredibly lame attempt at humor. If that’s all someone has to say they might as well just pass on the subject at hand.
This is basically true. At lower ranks simply sticking together and pushing at the same time will mean you win 80% of the time. And you you still get the players who don’t join voice, or who ignore callouts…
I will say though, that at lower ranks there are too many games that are completely silent… you can go a long way by simply making callouts. Just pick a target to focus and call it out.
I would say that theres some skill difference, but it’s not as great as people make it out to be. I have a buddy who is in high Plat and we play around the same skill level. Problem is that he plays comp with a duo and I am usually solo Q.
What exactly did your post contribute to the OP? Take your own advice.
Ok I’ll provide some legitimate feedback and after I do what’s your excuse then?
everytime you die, use the respawn time to ask yourself why. Did you make a mistake? were you out of position? is a specific hero on the enemy team carrying that needs to be ddealt with?
also, every time you use an ult, ask yourself if it was necessary to win the teamfight, or if it was the right time to use it at all. I found i wasn’t using them right, and i’ve improved my ult usage a lot
regardless of rank if you’ve been playing overwatch long enough you should be able to answer these questions. It’s just a matter of reviewing your own gameplay.
Maybe try playing dps? I used to be stuck in diamind as a flex player, then I mained 76 and finally broke into Masters.
ALSO, always look at what you can do to improve, even when a loss obviously wasn’t your fault, playing the role no one else wants to doesn’t mean you’re playing correctly!
This doesn’t mean you have to beat yourself up, but try to be like Zenyatta and just passively assess your performance. Watching kill cams is how I learned that it is a lot better to prioritize footwork over aiming as a dps before almost immediately hitting masters.
Lastly (this post is turning out to be longer than I thought), sometimes the best thing you can do to play better is to not play at all. I swear to Blizzard, everytime I come back to OW after leaving for a month or two I actually play better than when I left. I think this is because leaving for extended periods helps my brain drop bad habits it subconciously built up as well as reapproach my game plan from a new perspective.
Always bring a good pair of climbing boots
A good rope can save your life
If you can’t climb it, dont try it. Theres always another way up the mountain
It’s awesome if you recognize that you need to improve. A lot of people’s egos are road blocks that prevent improvement.
First I’d find a few heroes in each class that you feel comfortable with who are legitimate picks. Sometimes it helps if you are honest with your skill level too. I’m not an overly mechanically skilled player so I focus on less demanding heroes but my positioning and decision making is very good. I like heroes like Winston, Moira, Rein for some examples who aren’t as mechanically demanding. This way you have less to focus on.
Communicating is VERY important too. Not sure how well you do in this regard but it can make an extreme difference for callouts, focusing targets, ULT economy etc. Either by voice or chat any communication is better than none.
Staying grouped is huge. Even if you think your teammates are going the wrong way; six people going one way is better than three going one way and three going another.
Another absolutely MASSIVE tip that goes overlooked a lot is tilt as well. There were actually factual results that as people climb in ranks the higher ranks have less tilt occurring and lower ranks have way more. Your emotions will destroy any other abilities you could possess. For instance if you play Winston and get pissed at a Genji and tunnel vision on him things will get disastrous.
Every time you die it’s your fault too. Play with this mindset and you will always look for ways to get better. Was your positioning good? Did you over extend? Were you grouped with your team? If you blame teammates you’re blaming people you can’t control. Learn to control what you can control; yourself.
Hope some of these help
Play a healer like Moira and don’t ever flex, it’s how I climbed out of gold (once).
You earn slightly more SR since Moira is good at both healing and dealing damage and if you flex you somehow get less SR.
Other good tips:
- Use LFG, yeah it sucks and it’s slow as molasses, but if you don’t want to be at the mercy of the dice roll that is OW’s matchmaking being in a team where you know people will talk is paramount.
- Don’t pick a DPS hero unless your tracking is amazing, if it isn’t then it’s just more trouble than it’s worth to pick DPS.
- Ultimates. Win. Games.
Pretty much every comp game is earn your ultimate as fast as possible and use it every time there’s a team fight. - Don’t bother with trying to think up crazy strats, they’ll never work (people still struggle to understand what “group up” means at these ranks), just try and corral your herd of cats into a group and make them go forward.
With 8 replies before mine and 3 videos I am fairly certain he got what he asked for. Thanks though.

One of the most important things is to train your mind not to rage or get frustrated. Turn all that energy put into hitting your table and screaming into focus and think about the situation and what you did wrong so you don’t lose / die next time the same way.
Join a team work on you compatibility. queue together and or play a ton of quick play to get more mechanically fluent on heroes without any pressure then after gaining like 20 to 30 hour on that hero go back to comp with an open mind and you should be of higher skill tier
Stream it on twitch and post vod so people can critique you.
Ult traccing. When you learn to ult track you learn to position around that. Find duo’s and communicate. 144hz monitors as well (Go to Space’s YT channel for more info.)
As support, try to get more defensive/offensive assists, in one of my placement matches, I got 0 deaths as Mercy, got 10k heals (my lowest) but I got more SR than usual as I had a lot of assists (my team was amazing)
