| ~ Anran, eliminating another Anran using Vermillion Ascent |
Hi, everyone. With the massive 2026 roster drop, I’ve been absolutely loving Anran’s Type-A, hyper-competitive Fire College energy. However, I’ve noticed that some of the highly contextual, hyper-specific kill interactions we used to get in earlier years of Overwatch 2 are a bit lacking lately, but across the board, there’s lots of unused potential for new variety in voice line writing. As amazing as her existing lines are, Anran feels like she needs voice line polish to make her fit in.
After thoroughly reading the new lore so far to brainstorm, I have a fleshed-out, lore-accurate voice line expansion pack drafted here for Anran. I would look like I’d love to hear what the community (and the narrative team!) thinks about these interactions. Enjoy the read!

- Generic: All right. Heels down, core tight, fans out. (deep exhale) Perfect. Let’s do this.
- Generic (with 2 or more smart or academic heroes on the team: Mei, Sigma, Symmetra, Winston or Wuyang): Is this mission being recorded for peer review? I’d like to submit my performance metrics for my mid-term thesis.
- Generic (with 3 or more Overwatch members on the team): Okay, Anran. Don’t be weird. You’re an agent now. Just… act like a professional.

- On Wuxing University: Fire College, reporting for duty! Let’s show the other colleges why we’re the ones at the front of the pack!
- On Wuxing University: I’ve logged thousands of hours in these halls. I could map this place blindfolded… not that I’m recommending we try that.
- On Esperança: This city is one giant circuit-training course. If we win this, I’m going for a celebratory jog up the sea wall.
- On Oasis: The Scientific Collective here… their research protocols are so disorganized. It’s painful to watch.
- On Any Map During Rain or Overcast Weather: I know water and fire don’t mix, but this weather is ridiculous. (sigh) My fans will get drenched in no time.

Capture the Flag
Anran has very basic CTF lines and deserves better. Right now, all she has is:
- Taken Flag: Got the flag!
- Enemy Taken Flag: Get our flag back!
- Captured Flag: Scored one for us!
- Enemy Captured Flag: We can’t keep letting them score.
- Dropped Flag: Someone else grab the flag!
- Enemy Flag Dropped: They dropped our flag!
- Recovered Flag: Returning the flag!
New line suggestions to go alongside the above:
- Taken Flag: I’ve got the flag. Catch me if you can!
- Taken Flag: Flag acquired! Clearing a path to base!
- Enemy Taken Flag: The enemy has our flag!
- Enemy Taken Flag: They’re making a break for it. Cut them off!
- Captured Flag: Flag secured. Anyone keeping score?
- Captured Flag: Take notes, people!
- Enemy Captured Flag: Come on, we’re better than this!
- Enemy Captured Flag: They got lucky. Next time, we’ll stop them.
- Dropped Flag: Sorry. I had to drop the flag!
- Dropped Flag: Giving up the flag. Someone else grab it?
- Enemy Flag Dropped: They really couldn’t handle the heat.
- Enemy Flag Dropped: Now’s our chance to recover the flag.
- Recovered Flag: Flag’s back where it belongs.
- Recovered Flag: Sending it home.

I believe adding this level of specific, character-driven dialogue helps players bond with the heroes so much more, and of course, it adds the much needed variety that, frankly, newer heroes have missed out on compared to others.
Which of these interactions is your favorite? Do you think we deserve to have contextual lines back like we did in 2022-2023, especially since lore has become front and center?
