The QP matchmaking isn’t ridiculous. What’s ridiculous is the people who insist that QP, the mode where any group of friends can play together, should have competitive matchmaking instead of just playing competitive instead.
There’s no reason not to play competitive instead unless you’re scared of seeing numbers go down after a loss, but that would only serve to get you to your proper skill level so you can be matched with other people at that level, which is what you want, right?
if wasn’t for smurf and toxicity I will go there for sure. pity since there are smurfs is legit the same of goin qp, just with longer matches.
so I should be penalized in qp because I play solo and some gold as me bring his master+ duo. ok. well, single attempt done and got expected loss. I keep goin to don’t even do anything else more than shooting at someone to don’t be kicked.
ofc the matchmaking is ridiculous.
QP is the casual mode for people who don’t wanna grind ranked. Or to get better at certain characters…in the end: it’s a place to have fun, to try things or to relax. (i know relax and ow in the same sentence is wild)
I’m not a big fan of ranked - i never was. Its way too toxic for me and sometimes I cant concentrate hard enough to lock in. I’m also a casual player who just wants to chill, listen to music while playing or being in a call with friends..all that. And as a casual player it’s no fun to play against gm/champ dps with perma pocket. since i’m on console…a lot of them on xim as well.
Quick Play should be the most fun and chill thing in this game. but matchmaking is turning this to ranked without numbers.
What about the friends who want to play together for fun? Should they not be allowed to do that if one of them is too good?
To me, letting friends play together and not scoring match outcomes is chill. I think people would find that lobby where everyone is truly at the same skill level would be decidedly un-chill, because you’d have to try to be able to hang in there. It’s not reasonable to expect that you could play a new hero or just mess around in a lobby where everyone is as good as you without getting destroyed. QP is still a good place for trying things out. Turning it into competitive would undo that.
Of course friends should play together but still - the matchmaking is NOT okay atm.
2 of my friends are bronze / silver. I’m diamond. We should get people at the same range there even in qp. Getting gm/champs is NOT the way to enjoy qp.
I get it - this isnt a comp mode but it should be still somehow balanced. theres a reason both friends aren’t having fun as they should be in a casual mode. They should use the same matchmaker in qp as they use in comp.
You can’t tell me, this is balanced atm. And as I told you, i’m on console..this is a whole cheat-era right now. there are so many xims in qp right now leveling their account and trying to boost their mercy afterwards…they need to do something about the matchmaking. at least a bit. (or against the cheaters…LMAO)
QP is even-ish in that it matches by role across teams. If there’s a GM on their team, there’s almost always one on your team, too, in the same role. The most common exception to that would be if you’re playing in a large group, because group size is heavily weighted in matchmaking. Like if you’re a 4 or 5 stack, it’s really only going to match you against other groups of that size, so it might have to widen the pool a bit to make that happen.
I play in a group, too. I’m Champ and play with silver-plat friends. There’s always at least one high-MMR person on the other team to match me. It’s very consistent.
I’m on console, too, and I think the ximming thing is heavily overstated and not nearly as common as people think.
Welp it’s indeed somehow broken ±
Just see 3 of us in chat came to agree on 1 thing xD

Well since we’re most of the time a 5-Stack between Bronze - Diamond….there is no one who is gm or champ on our team and still on the other. There is something broken. And yes - the ximming in qp is bad atm. Since an old friend of me used xim i know how this looks like. but whatever. have a great day.
Why u play qp then….
That’s why I talked about the exception for large groups. If you’re in a 5-stack, it’s almost always going to match you against another 5-stack. There are very few of those playing at any given time, so it’s either put you against the groups that are available or 30-minute queues.
What is your MMR? I watched the soldier he looks like a gold player to me with his aim. So if you are around that rank then his aim is pretty standard and doesn’t look like a smurf. He looks like some one that’s using a controller without aim assist.

All my posts about matchmaking above, but in summary…
Match quality suffers for fast queues, but there is only so much that can be done to assure match quality even with long queues. The ideal solution is to allow people to select a long queue for tighter matches in QP (this is essentially what competitive is btw but lots of people won’t touch comp).
It’s very simple, if team doesn’t want to play, I just disconnect and go next. Unfortunately it’s limited and sometimes I just have to play out 2 rounds of control where my team ends with 2 elims between us. Thanks, Blizzard, very fun time.
Looking at the replay, I definitely wouldn’t say the enemy team were high ranks, unless you consider silver high ranks.
which is unbalanced tbh.
i have a replay to share. i came in a game with 30 seconds left on kings row attack, 2nd point (backfill QP)
was like… ahh a losing game. i mean only 30 seconds left and the cart is still stuck at first point… somehow, we capped in overtime and won the whole game
a lot of people would probably have left the game. i was ready to accept defeat hehe
replay is YF8090
What’s ridiculous is that after 10 years, people still don’t understand how everyone’s overall winrate on QP is exactly 50%
… what’s even more delusional is that some actually believe is a random causality xD
You will face less smurfs and less toxcity (or equal toxicity) in Comp than having crazy outmatched players and teams in QP.
I’d argue that QP is far more toxic than Comp, but everyone’s milage may vary.
The reason QP is toxic is because you have players trying to treat QP like comp and because QP is way more wild in it’s match making, you get a huge variance of skill level, so the players that are trying to treat it like Comp have a bad time and they get angry that the have players that are worse than they are or when players that are really good are on the other team.
So they get toxic with their teammates. Then you have the whole argument of someone making a comment to a teammate and that person says “it’s just QP” and then the QP warrior starts foaming at the mouth and it never works out.
Unfortunately these are the only available options. You if you want to play the core game, you have to choose between these two:
QP = Wide match making most of the time. You can have anything from Bronze-GM in the same QP lobbies, meaning the competitive fairness of the matches are already greatly compromised. If you are ok with that, then this is a great mode. It’s difficult to take seriously since most of the matches are very lopsided.
It is rare to actually have a QP lobby where all of the players are evenly-ish skilled.
Comp = Way, way more evenly matched players and teams. It isn’t perfect, but the imperfections is negligible most of the time. You have way more competitively fair games. Yes, you will run into smurfs. It isn’t often and it certain isn’t often enough to effect one’s ability to climb in the ranks.
This is a great mode to play to have good, even matches. In this regard, it is far better match making than the alternative with QP.
It is not, otherwise there would be nobody with higher MMR. My QP heroes have an average win-rate of 52.1% over 16,680 games. That number is going up since I’m playing fewer heroes and winning 55%+ with them lately.
