Unfortunately, Smurf accounts have been a problem since OW1. They attempted to stop it the first 6 months of OW2 with the phone number requirement but then they realized that they were missing out on opportunities to make money and removed it. They truly don’t care about us.

There’s just no realistic way of dealing with smurfs (besides reporting them). Besides, the only real punishable behaviour with alt accounts is playing in lower ranks than their main on purpose, other than that alts are legitimate accounts people can own and use to play the game.

Alts and Smurfs are not the same things.

Didn’t know but well I don’t do alt acc so …

You don’t have to put a phone number in there. Its optional.

Screaming about smurfs, is just how bad players who think they are good, maintain their delusion of being good when confronted with players better than them..

If you put half the effort into learning and growing as you put into the mental gymnastics to witch hunt others for being better than you, you would actually be good enough where most wouldn’t be able to smurf on you..

So your really just trying blame everyone else for your own regusal/inability to learn and grow..

Why do you have to create a narrative to assign to others’ motives? Maybe listen to them instead of just coming up with your own story about what you think their motives are?

I fail to see how it’s so hard to understand that, often, you can tell a smurf. Sometimes its a brand new account that has less than 100 hours on it, where the person is playing at a level that its just obvious they are not in the right lobby. Sometimes, you can see their rank, and sometimes that rank shows you that they are high level on other roles but mysteriously, low level on another.

In either case, it often has nothing to do with them thinking they are good.

Most of the time, it’s just normal people who want to log in an have a good time, and play with people of their own ranks…and..i know it needs to be said, because it’s said so often, and people seem to miss it..very rarely do you hear people say ā€œim a gold and i should be a masters, but, gosh darn it…its’ those damn smurfs holding me back!ā€, no, it’s people who just want to get along in their own rank, or in their own QP games, and dont want to have to worry about playing with people who are clearly way too high to be in their lobbies.

Some of them may never get better, they just want to maintain, and play the game that they can play. Not everyone is here to work OW like a second job. Not everyone has the desire to spend hundreds of hours in aim trainers, or research ā€œtheory of positioningā€ so they can eek out the next 10% of their game play. Some just want to log in and play OW, with friends, or solo, in comp or not in comp, and if they play in comp, they just want to do so as a way to hopefully get better games.

Dont need to make an Olympic event out of mental gymnastics to say

ā€œi dont want to put forth the effort to improve as a player, but i cant cope with the fact players better than be exist, so they should be banned for winning against meā€

It sounds like you suffer from ā€œcasual problems in competitive gamesā€

You didnt read a word i said. You just want to continue the story in your own mind.

This game isnt only a competitive game. When i bought this game, many years ago, i never agreed to anything that said that, if I fail to improve, I lose the right to play fair games. This is why the competitive side was created, for those who wanted to climb the ladder, and you can go as highs you care to sink hours into the game. For the rest, they can play in their own realm.

if they are better, then they should play with people of their own skill. That’s what this game was always supposed to be about.

You want to create this story in your head. You want to take ā€œi just want to play against people who are equal to me and not have to worry about smurfsā€ and fashioned a new story that says ā€œi got beat and i dont like it so I want to complainā€. You just bypassed any thought to what they are saying and just came back with what your own narrative.

Why pretend like smurfing is this rare unicorn? We all know it happens, we know it happens a lot, so people complaining about it are probably being genuine. You are trying to demonize them like they are calling a rare thing common. The truth is, it’s very common. There are tons of alt accounts, and where people will find a way to take an easy win, they will do it. Thats just how people are, unfortunately.

If the game constantly give high competitive players in lobbies with casual players - eventually they will face many losses and have less desire to play at all if that is all that they are facing and have no fun( for example mercy mains?) - less casual players less skins bought
not a bright future :с
so some balance would be nice
I for example played only ~ 2h of comp since 2017

No your confirmation bias leads you to belive they exist..

There is literally no way you can prove anyone is a smurf, literally any evidence you can provide is baseless and can easily be discredited.

welcome to pvp gaming, where sometimes you have to play against people who are better than you.

Its literally, you get your butt kicked by someone, your pride/ego wont let you admit they are a better player(or your just butt hurt you lost), so you go look for any excuse you can find to discredit them in your own mind, so you dont have to admit they are better than you..

Your making a mountain out of a molehill because you cant cope with getting thrashed.. its really that simple

I mean, to be fair, Smurfs DO exist in ranked… but it’s all part of the journey at this point. Blizzard can’t solve smurfing, so we just have to deal with it and work on getting better despite Smurfs.

the exist. you’re in denial if you dont think they do. you can go on youtube and watch any number of unranked to GM, or bronze to GM videos to see that it happens.

Ive personally seen people who were masters on tank and DPS but only silver on support. This is not an accident.

Smurfing is a long, well known issue that goes back to the earliest of OW days.

translation: if you show me proof, im just going to say it’s not proof.

yet again, you are creating your own narrative. i guess it allows you to come here and bad mouth people, because it..makes you feel good?

I fully admit that there are those out there who do what you say, but, smurfing is common enough that you cant make blanket statements like that. It’s disingenuous.

No, im trying to explain to you that you cant just create stories and then assign them to other people, based on nothing more that ā€œi think it so therefore it isā€

Yea im sure theres people smurfing in my gm lobbys, like I see people in my matches claim.

So what evidence do you have to substantiate your accusations?

Low play time? Ever stopped to consider maybe the person is coming from a background of a similar game like tf2?

Point is you cant prove anyone is a smurf, so ultimately your just witch hunting based on your own bias.

Bro… you are a troll and you have no power here.

There are Smurfs all the way down. Not enough to impact much, but they definitely exist.
