I was worried there would be serious workload issues with PVP and PVE
If a talent tree requires more work than an entire hero, and they already struggle to ship an entire hero, what does that mean for the workload? What does that mean for the balancing process and the iterative design process? With a workload that big and interconnected it’s like, are you just cementing yourself in place with tech debt?
The tiny silver lining I’m trying to see is that axing the replayable PVE means a lower workload for the team as a whole. so I’m expecting to see less “half cooked” releases moving forward lol. But that’s just an expectation I have of them, not what I think they’ll deliver
I’m mean online games tend to be buggy as whole, as they need to keep a strict schedule. And can’t delay the game for months on end to clean everything up.
Doubly so when you consider that OW adds full on new mechanics, instead of just another reskinned gun like most other FPS games.
Considering that the community held strong while they literally stopped making content. At least enough to keep the game running, and were just now getting loads of new accounts flooding into here and reddit.
I wanted to comment on your post as I wanted to add to it, but than I realized that there’s nothing really to add, its PAINFULLY obvious the devs are not happy about this, they had to suck it up and eat it like good little workers and that was the only decision they had. You can clearly see that none of them are happy.
Jeff is a multimillionaire who could start his own business if he wanted to or simply go years without working. So, Aaron can’t resign as easily as Jeff. Sucks, but he’s in a tough position.
I get that, but how often are we getting bugs where a hero’s basic mechanics are bugged. Like when Hanzo, Torb, and Genji had their shakiness bugs. And the flying Sigma bug.
These are things that you’d think would be caught by the devs while they’re working on the game right?
It tends to be rare, but not unheard of. D.va for example has a habit of breaking whenever spawn mechanics are tweaked or added to the game.
Like she was fine in normal games, then they added arcade where she would rocket to the moon on most de-mechs.
Be it we should expect more as now that PVE story mode stuff is right around the corner.
As that was in it’s self a whole engine overhall to get that to work.
And it’s most likely were a lot of the recent hero bugs came from. As their slowly rolling out engine updates as part of things like star watch.
Some other stuff might have been testing for talents to before they got the boot. As that would require reworking some of the older bits of the heroes code.
