Additionally, I know my limits and have tested on what I can do.
However, this game will continue to remain as is if people continue their own toxic and selfish behavior unless they migrate to Riot Game’s Project ‘A’.
I will stick to Overwatch, Paladins, and MMOs but leave me out of the toxic clown-fiesta where people can enjoy their ego-boosters.
The devs, game and balance aren’t the problem. People are.
Just let people enjoy the game honestly…
Flavor of the month semi-annual.
I think that in a factual stance, the game in a balancing stance feels like they are throwing darts at a target and they either overshoot it or don’t shoot close enough to the target.
In a sense, they are adjusting things by either adding too big of a buff/nerf/change, or too little. But then again, I’m just a average Gold Player so I can’t really say much about Balancing, but I think that with time, the stars will align and we’ll get the closest thing to a fairly balanced game as could be.
(Unless of course, Overwatch 2 intends to replace Overwatch which is possible but that would be a stupid idea in my opinion.)
The only thing I think is overtly unbalanced is the matchmaker. Just climbed back up to 2486 in three games from 2400. First two matches got me to 2471, and my last match only got me 15 Sr.
That’s not a balanced game, that’s an even distribution of roles. Vastly different than game balance.
Honestly I think almost all the heroes individually are in a good state, apart from a few notable exceptions like Widow being overpowered.
It’s the interactions between heroes that make balancing difficult, for example the whole countering mechanic. Winston v Genji I think is the perfect example of a healthy matchup. Theoretically Winston should win the 1v1 vs a Genji because he has far more health, a large shield he can dance in and out of, and an autolock weapon that can’t be deflected. But if the Genji is smart, he can save his dash for when Winston dives, then just poke him with long-range shurikens. If the Winston is smart, he’ll wait until Genji uses dash, then dive him.
Doomfist v Zen is an example of an unhealthy interaction. If the Doomfist lands the slam+uppercut combo on Zen, there’s pretty much nothing Zen can do. Widow v almost any hero in the game is also an unhealthy interaction. There’s pretty much nothing you can do against a good Widow, it’s difficult to dive her because she has a brilliant escape ability and she’ll often receive backup from her team once you’re out of position after your dive. Sometimes the only option against a Widow is to have a better Widow. That’s not fun for anyone except for the better Widow who can remain uncontested.
Synergy between heroes is also often difficult to break and can make buffs and nerfs risky. There were several nerfs to GOATS heroes during the GOATS meta, all with the intention of trying to dismantle the comp, but the synergy between those heroes was too strong for individual nerfs to affect. Another example is the synergy between Pharah and Mercy, which is why Blizzard are reluctant to buff Pharah, because if you buff her, you buff the Pharmercy combo, which can roll teams without a good hitscan player.
I think the balance is pretty good myself, if you ignore some wildly out there exceptions cough Sombra cough
