If they are different genres or playstyles, that is irrelevant.
If someone plays Red Dead Redemption 2, or Bloodborne, or any game instead of playing Overwatch, then that game is in direct competition with this game.
So yes… Apex is a competitor. And it is crushing Overwatch right now.
Apex is made by respawn both titfall. Games have been failures. What makes you think apex is any different.
Forget Apex. Why are games like League of Legends, Dota 2 and Dead by daylight beating it in views. Apex has the advantage of being trendy but those decade old games?

Also no having different genres isn’t irrelevant. The gaming community isn’t unified. Someone who plays sports isn’t competing against shooters. They already have a core base of players.

Exactly! Overwatch isn’t even three years old yet and it’s being pushed into irrelevancy already. Overwatch had everything to keep itself steady in the long term but fails in the execution.
Incorrect. Only games of the same exact genre and play-style are in competition with each other. And that’s only if they came out relatively close, since it’s all about garnering as many players as possible to keep the ball rolling.
An example being Paladins which is the casual version of OW and is F2P (P2U/Pay To Unlock as well), but it came out later. After OW had already gotten the ball rolling with hype and then the release just 4 months prior to Paladins.
If anything, the only games that are in direct competition with each other are F2P games of the MMORPG/standard MMO variety. Since they’re a dime a dozen and rely on having many players for as long as possible (with the most successful F2P being Maple Story somehow).

I did exactly that with a couple of these.
I have been sick of OW for awhile now but didnt know where to go, then RDR2 came out and i was so happy to leave OW for a few weeks, now I’m onto Apex and i hope its finally the OW killer I been waiting for, this game has honestly become balls in the last 6-8months or so.
People said this about Teamfortress 2 and how Overwatch is going to totally obliterate it
Fast woard years later, TF2 has the same player base its had since 2012. Don’t take my word for it. Google “Steamcharts Teamfortres 2”. Brings up exact concurrent player numbers

Nope. It’s sitting at 461k concurrent players average which is absolutely bananas for a player base.
Apex Legends may get big but fortnite, pubg, and all other games will remain the same because different games, even when of the same genre, aren’t exactly the same and appeal to different people.
