They silenced my other account, which I thought HMM. FISHY?
So I created a new account, grinded the 50 wins for comp, started playing, (encountered the same exact familiar throwers & toxic people i saw on the previous account, I recognize them by name, still being toxic with no punishment. so I thought, "hey at least I’m “in the rank im supposed to be in”)
I literally cant even be bothered to use chat this time around. I use the pingwheel and pretty much turn chat off before I can remember it (peoples toxicity usually remind me to turn it off and mute various toxic mics (cause if you leave VC then they all blame you for leaving VC)
I quite literally do not participate in comms. I used to call “Fat purple” or “TP up” or “Hog discord” stuff like that. But scarcely this time around.
I report EVERY blatant toxicity I see (not light-hearted banter, but outright intentional flaming/blaming) and get “Thank you for reporting” messages every log-in
Today I log in and get a “Warning” when I dont even use chat. Now something is going on here. It is not just me. I strictly play comp, and I think people just press tab, find the character they dont like, or low stats, and report that person.
There is NO reason why I should be getting reports for ABUSIVE CHAT when I literally DO NOT USE CHAT.
I belive it is an automated system, and with the Warning message I’d like to have an exact log of WHAT was said to trigger it. Cause if my log shows up it would be EMPTY.
I’ll raise a bug report, raising tickets is how you actually get communication working in situations like this.
It will look something like this…
Problem: reporting systems is not filtering out ABUSIVE CHAT for people not using the chat system and voice.
Expected behavior: reports against people for toxic chat should be automatically dropped for players which have not joined both voice and text chat.
That is all you need to put in, and then let it get queued. As more people report it as an issue, it will be bumped higher on the priority list.
Maybe someone you reported didn’t deserve the report, it does give you a warning if you miss use the report feature, whether anyone was punished for that reason who is to say…
The real question is whether i believe you, which is nope…
if it was auto-ban and you didn’t say anything would be an easy appeal…
My main account finally got perma-banned when 99% of my ‘toxicity’ was defending myself against actual toxic players. But context doesn’t matter to the reporting system. Had almost every skin in the game up to OW2, my gaming history gone from playing since day 1.
So, I don’t care how low key toxic someone is. I don’t care if it’s just someone saying gg ez. I report everything, and I’m enjoying every single Thank You for Reporting screen I get almost every time I log in.
People reporting because they’re authoritarians that can’t help themselves.
Get others banned because it makes them feel good.
And Blizzard rewards that moronic behavior by making it all automatic and even easier to abuse.
Should I mention that these people are the same ones that complain about toxicity and all the fake stories they make up about how they were harassed in a video game?
I’ve got experience with CS2 and Valorant, and can say it’s not as harsh there. Heck, until OW I’ve never had issues with “abusive” chat since playing comp FPS for ~6 years
Have not used chat since 2020, just recently got silenced. Didn’t even appeal, figured what’s the point I’m not missing anything anyway.
Just sent a support ticket to Microsoft, waiting to see how that playes out. Informed Blizzard without a header in my supprt ticket. Got the automated response as if I appealed the silence.
I don’t even think there is a captain at the helm right now lol.
I have a macro I hit at the beginning of every play session saved on my Logitech G13. /hidechat. Been doing that since 2020 since there is nothing in text chat worth a damn. Account was silenced. The system is broken at the moment. Like I said a few sentances ago. I didn’t even care because the “feature” that I am missing out on, I don’t partake in anyway. I use Discord for voice comms as well. Started doing that after the message Blizzard posted where they would be reviewing in game voice comms.
Ask Blizzard for the reason, they’ll send you the message/s that got you silenced. They did that in the past (and guess what, turned out there were toxic messages).
basically people are going to press any of the report features if you seam to be doing something that offends them. It doesn’t matter what it is.
If you are creating a new account that is already strike 1 against you.
strike 2 is being a new account and playing GOOD.
strike 3 is focusing a player repeatedly. They are going to get mad at you and report you.
strike 4 is repeating a voiceline or a voice command.
strike 5 is aiming GOOD on a new account.
I can understand that absolutely there are players out there that want a new account. They dont cost money and I get that. The best thing is, if you buy a new account and are experienced with Overwatch gameplay. Just throttle back the gameplay about 10 or 20 matches, and then when you unlock your first player icon. immediately turn OFF the default icon.
Then you can turn up the level of gameplay that you are good at and go to that level.
instead, if you do it suddenly and within the first 3-5 matches, you are going to have a boatload of reports from players that are not going to be happy and are going to report it as boosting, or whatever they can press the quickest.
(ie the default icon that is bugged on my Online version of this account, my real icon is a New years eve cake) which I would rather have a stinky pile of socks as an ICON for myself, since im not that great at this game. or the WoW "broken IWIN " button.
You know what’s funniest about all of this? According to code of conduct guidelines, we are not allowed to talk about our punishments in this forum. So once Robocop gets wise, this thread is going bye bye.
Gives you a warm, cozy feeling inside right?
Automation was Blizzard waving the white flag in policing its players base. Now we are mob-rule style banning every account out of existence.
Weird. Maybe enough people for whatever reason didn’t like you (because your hero’s skin color was plaid, as a dumb extreme example. Altho tbh I’d totally rock a plaid skin just for fun), perhaps because they overly fixated on the score board? Or venting frustration from a loss? Or who knows. Either way, maybe they just felt like they had to report you to “get back at you” for whatever perceived slight they thought happened. The only thing I can think of (presuming of course the OP is truly factual), is that people abused the report system, and just went the easy route of choosing the abusive text option. If you weren’t afk or purposely throwing or whatever the other categories are, it’s possible people are using the text report feature to get around the other options. Why that would happen when you don’t even chat? Again, assuming the OP is truthful, sounds like a serious bug. I would, as others have suggested, mention that you have chat off, and ask to see the actual text of what you said. I somehow doubt they’ll actually tell you that info, but it doesn’t hurt to try. You’d think that the report system would see “hey, this dude got reported for abusive chat, yet there is literally 0 characters typed into the game, so let’s ignore this and ding the person who reported you”.
Acti-Blizz games in general are having this problem, it’s a problem in Modern Warfare II as well, was playing ranked with a buddy in MWII and we were in a party and didn’t use in game coms but all of the sudden he is hit with an abusive chat ban.
I find it funny that they expect you to put hundreds of dollars in cosmetics into these games but you can easily be false reported and eventually lose access to that stuff.
