About Sigma voice acting

Meanwhile over here… What is a Dutch accent?

Then you’ve never encountered a Dutch (or Flemish) person who’s used to speaking English (e.g. in a university setting). Dutch-speaking people who are well-versed in English lose their accent really quickly, which is not really surprising when you know that English and Dutch are closely related languages.

Jeff stated on stream that it was inspired by the fact that Blizzard has a studio in the hauge, so Sigma is kind of a homage to them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the people that play genji and Hanzo watch anime.

I mean the Dutch and English have a long trade history. So this doesn’t seem to bad.

The voice actor is Dutch. He’s not affecting a Dutch accent, he’s just acting in his natural accent, which… is the accent of a Dutch man who presumably (from the sound of it) learned his English from a British teacher (or a BBC program).

Please for the love all good and holy do not forget about junkrat. That man doesnt sound Australian in the slightest. In fact, he sounds AmericanAustralian, which is a term we use when Americans put on dumb accents and say “lets throw another shrimp on the barbie”

I believe there’s been a research done that proved most people subconsciously change accents a bit based on what language they’re speaking. as someone in the EU I notice it a lot when people switch from their native tongue to english

Clearly none of you have ever watched NikkiTutorials.

Dutch is the language people from the Netherlands speak. So English with a dutch accent.

It sounds quite dutch to me. At least dutch people who speak very good English. He’s supposed to be a scientist and a person of culture so I guess it’s normal he speaks really good English.

lemme rephrase that:
I have never heard a dutch accent, or possibly have heard it and don’t know that THAT is a dutch accent.
Is there a famous example out there I can reference? Or even just an example?

ok … I know why I havent watched NikkiTutorials. … but is this a good example of a dutch accent?

No, it’s my example of an actual Dutch Youtuber, who lives in the Netherlands, who doesn’t sound “Dutch”.

As in, you don’t have to be over-dramatic in your accent just to make a point you’re from x country.

Yeah, only the fake ones. Torb and Rein come to mind but not even the same thing as Tracer, they’re very obviously fake. Bastion’s accent is a bit overdone though, tbh.

Ahh. I am looking for an actual example of a dutch accent though. Just curious.

British person here. I don’t think he sounds very British at all. To my ear, his accent is kinda like an upper class American accent? Like Frasier or Niles from ‘Frasier’…but a lot of people who are speaking English as a second language sound kinda like this so :man_shrugging:

I’m also new to this so I searched it.

You’re right. There’s more than a little Crocodile Dundee thrown into that Junkrat performance.

I could accept a little bit, since aussies dont have a recognisable accent due to movies and tv making it sound really different. But damn junker boy’s VA isnt even australian. Couldnt even give us an actual VA from the country.

I guess there are more obvious accents speaking English, such spanish, italian or french. I don’t think dutch is that obvious.

EDIT: Anyway, it also depends on the person speaking. I’ve been told I have an american accent speaking English though is obvious I’m from Europe but they can’t say where I am from.
