It’s great that you want to keep your supports covered, but this isn’t OW1 anymore. In OW2 there’s no offtank for peels, and the remaining tank has too many other things on their plate.
Dps now have the primary peel responsibility, which many unfortunately shirk or simply don’t know how to do. So peel often falls to the supports themselves, which is why you see duo mobile supports (Lucio/Kiriko) at pro play levels so frequently. They can get themselves out of trouble while still providing support.
He does cry about everything. But not a hanzo one trick.
I’ve stopped tanking besides playing Ram occasionally. Mostly playing Mercy, Zen, and Brig now.
It’s just not worth the stress to be the single player on a role that serves the most important function. Making space so the rest of the team can do their job.

I heckin’ love me some tank. Now was it better in 6v6 or 5v5? I can’t really say, they both had their advantages and disadvantages, but overall I (and I am strictly speaking for myself here) still feel tank is the most fun role.

You make valid points, but I don’t really share your experience. Maybe it’s because I dont have even close to 1k hours (I’m at around 500), but I’m almost exclusively playing Rein in diamond and having lots of fun. I don’t wanna take anything away from your argument, just sharing my experience.
I like the large amount of responsibility I have as the tank because I can try to carry most games with it. Additionally, Rein is just one of the most dopamine inducing and fun to play heroes in the entire game in my opinion, and I never get tired of playing him. Some games are unplayable as Rein, but switching to Orisa or Winston mostly helps.

I feel the exact same way

Pretty sure OP described the tankbexperience at every single point in games history for me as a gold/plat tank
Go on strike, demand higher wages, unionize! (Just kidding, leave me alone, I’m old.)
I actually agree totally, Tanking does feel more stressful lately, even down here in the metal ranks. I mainly DPS though, and I also don’t blame you for that comment… Sometimes I feel so ineffective, particularly if the enemy team is focusing me, which has become more and more prevalent… Which makes sense… Tanks are impossible to kill, Support can take cover and regain their HP, so DPS are often the easiest early pick.
So in my matches, that’s what’s happening… DPS are getting picked early, which puts the Tank in a really bad position quickly. And as a hitscan, the increased pick rate of Rein is making it harder to be the one getting the early pick unless we flank or go wide for an off-angle, but hence you, as the Tank, wondering where your DPS are.
That seems to be to meta pattern lately, but I can only speak from the gutters of the skill pool, not sure about higher ranks.

Ok that’s all I had to read to confirm you are no higher than gold. If you are higher than gold then your rank is inflated.
You have a good point in your post but this sentence is just wrong lol
Great addition here! Absolute spot on.
This is my experience also.
So… 6v6 was the answer.
And before anyone says “Too slow!” - They could have simply reworked tanks. 5v5 was doomed from the start.

Playing tank isn’t for everyone.
If you’re not able to,don’t.
It will be better for everyone.
unless you have a rein ditto you really shouldnt be dueling the tank.
tanks have way too many defensive abilitie and if healers are alive TTK is way too low. you need to get their healers before or even a dps.
offensive tanks generally shouldnt be on cart or on point unless the battle is already happening there. they should be posting a choke ahead of cart or point.
if your heals need peels then their tank is doing a better job of getting aggro than you. the point of tanks is you want to make them focus you. that being said tank has always been the most important job and now that theres only 1 tank. youre it, youre everything.
Boo hoo. Almost all the tanks right now are nothing more than 900 hit point dps and that’s been their trajectory for a long time. You’ll just have to quit.
I feel like I really need to clarify that Moria / Mercy comment. But first would you consider Mercy to be throwing in the Mercy has 6k heals and Moria 12k in the same game?
I’m not referring to the game ending with Moria with 12k and Mercy 10k, I’m referring to HUGE disparities.
Not necessarily, it’s rather typical that a Moira has a lot more healing than a Mercy, especially if she is throwing yellow orbs and the Mercy is damage-boost pocketing more than healing.
i fully agree with you, im also close to completely dropping tank cause it feels too tasking and stressful not due to their actual playstyle but the expectations from the team. however healers are in a similar position so its just the dps mains that are a problem LOL theres always that 1 genji straying completely away from team, dying, and going “where the heals???” lmao there is many clips out there showing dmg characters constantly running away from healer chasing them and literally not letting themselves get healed
kinda similar with tanks, you do like as much dmg as a dps character, with the difference that the dps are hiding somewhere safe and all enemy attention is on you, if you dare die youre a bad tank apparently. people also shouldnt have the right to comment on someones gameplay of a different role. like if you know how to play it better why dont you do it?
5v5 is just less re-playable than 6v6. The amount of different tank combos you could have & having more ability interactions in team fights really made the game more interesting.
