95% of the time I use Mei's ult, by the end I am deeply dissatified

she is, you just want her to be a dps instead of an offtank. shes not supposed to go out and 1v1. shes supposed to protect and punish heroes that are overextended by either freezing them or walling them off from their team.

First and foremost, I want her ult to be as viable as the other ults in the game (= balance).
Can you please concentrate on that when answering as opposed to discussing whether her role is more dps or more offtank (that’s a different topic, we’re discussing viability, not role types here)!

It is lethal. If they are frozen, Mei and her team can kill the frozen targets. Its either get out of the area of the Blizzard, or be frozen and killed.

Mercy says hi.

(Sobs and carresses a picture of her old ult icon)

Nobody doubts that it can be lethal under certain conditions.
However in reality 20/26 heros have abilities that mitigate the effect of her ult. Every single hero that is currently considered meta belongs to these 77%.
You can’t call that lethal.

Timing. That is all it is. I felt the same way with Doomfist ult until I noticed everyone…backs up when I use it in front of them. So…I go be hind them and the second they realize where I am landing…boom.

Timing will solve the problem. Watch the genji use his dash, dva boost. It also a crowd control, area deny Ultimate. Not meant to kill mostly. Send it on a payload or objective and watch them run while you capture, stall payload.

She is really good to stall

You can’t capture the point in ~2 seconds (which is the time it actually stalls. You actually don’t need to stay away longer than 2 seconds in order to not be frozen)

Regardless of whether or not Mei’s ult is for Zoning like D.va or not… it’s still not a very satisfying ult to use. Enjoyment wise. It doesn’t hold a candle to other zoning ults like D.va/Mccree.

Throw it straight up into the air. No one knows wtf isn’t going XD

Just make sure you throw it from a safe location

I’m stunned at how badly they handled her ā€œbuffsā€ she is still absolute dumpster tier. She is so bad you will get reported for throwing if you try to play in her in competitive. Her ult is astoundingly awful and I honestly don’t know why we can’t make the god awful heroes viable.

ā€œBut you do double the damage if you have 21 ammo leftā€

Someones counter point to people saying the Mei buffs are the most useless changes possibly imagined in another thread I was in XD

Remember when I said it can deny an area? Thats the reason I said it, but you denied my point.

I never denied it can deny an area. Neither that it can be lethal.
However both are tied to a lot more prerequisites than for most other ults. Furthermore the decision whether it zones or kills (or none at all) is often times far out of Mei’s hands.
On top of that: If it zones, it does that for 2 seconds and in a 10 m radius with LoS. It’s a joke if you compare it to the other zoning ults and all the more if compared against killing ults.

You forgot to answer this question:

I kind of hate the whole ā€œMei’s ult is a denial toolā€ because any ultimate that does a large amount of damage or CC is basically a denial tool by default

With a ult that implies AoE CC being the big payoff for it, you would expect it to actually do what it says

the ult is very strong in certain places, mostly while defending points or a payload. I can’t count the number of times I’ve just ended a stall or that last push with a Mei ult. One of the big issues is that a lot of the time to actually get a lot of use out of the ult you also have to use all of her abilities as well or atleast 1. Hanamura point 1 you can throw it, wall the entrance people go to and then either ice block or clean up.

That being said I wouldn’t be against some buffs(a few ideas):
make it give her ammo every second she spends in it.
make it either heal her wall or let it extend the duration of the wall until the ult ends
make it heal her a little bit or give her armor or shields something to more suitability other than ice block, which kind of just your usefulness

Another option would be give her the option of either throwing the ult or having it follow her, nothing would strike fear in an enemy like a blizzard coming after them only to find out that the choke now has a wall in it.

as much as i know it would be annoying, make people in the ult freeze sooner, and have it disable mobility abilities.

I know this is a dead thread but Mei’s ult isn’t zoning, it’s a pressure tool. You don’t toss it in to deny area, you toss is in to force everyone to either scatter, or to fight at a disadvantage. You don’t toss it so that you can lock down an area, you toss it so that if your team can make sure the fight goes your way. Yes it does freeze abysmally slow and it doesn’t last for as long as I’d like, but you throw it in as your team distracts. It’s meant to overstimulate the enemy.

I understand your point, i start to play Mei now for a while and shes fun but the ult is very hard to use. Yesterday i was lucky and made two times 4kills with it by my self and carry the team with it  but thats rare. The problem is most of the hereos or of the meta hereos have mobility to esacpe it easy, Genji, Tracer, Dva, Mercy, Moira, Winston e.t.c
I found out a good way to use the ultimate sometimes is to throw it straight in the air on a point or on the payload, especially your the only person on point. It need about 5 secs to come down. Most of the time the enemie players think you waste it or something else. You go in the ice block and they will all come to you and thats the point where the suprise comes back  It works better as i tought.
