you could argue that you shouldn’t have gotten to plat.
but even if that was true, either way you look at it, the SR/MMR and match making system is inaccurate af and garbage. they should have reimplemented it instead of just applying the same broken crap to 222.
It doesn’t really matter if the matchmaking system forces loss streaks upon us or not,
For many of us, it FEELS that way and that’s bad enough.
Between those of us, paying customers, who FEEL like we’re being controlled and the company REFUSING to tell us how the matchmaking system and hidden mmr works - surely even you out there who have no problem climbing, you who have ascended to the lands of “gud” must understand us on some level?
activison blizzard,
if you got nothing to hide,
why not tell us how the matchmaking system works?
That’s because Blizzard is so obsessed with protecting the solo queuer that when you stack you’re banished to the group queue.
It creates a lot of problems, for both sides. Isolating the group queue means that SR is meaningless when the two sides meet up. Mid-plat in group queue is not the same as mid-plat in solo queue. On top of that, the fact that solo queue has been isolated from groups means that they’ve never had to learn the team game. They may learn a few basic moves or synergies, but for the most part you can get away with a lot of lack of awareness in solo queue. Groups meanwhile have been doing nothing but facing other groups, and they’ve learned the lessons this game has to teach the hard way.
I remember when LFG first launched. What a glorious week that was. We were near perfect on wins that week because we finally got to face solo queuers. We didn’t just win due to better communication or better team comps. Every aspect of these solo queuer’s games were worse. Aim, reactions, cooldown and ultimate usage, you name it, we were better by a significant factor. And yet according to SR we were the same rank.
Isolating groups from solo queuers has created this system where SR is meaningless, grouping up is punished and calling the mode competitive is a joke.
Punishing grouping up in a team based game is so incredibly bass akwards.
What are you talking about of course stacks should fight other stacks, hell in qp if i am up against a 4 to 6 stack i leave, it is extremely unfair to have 6 randoms go up against a coordinated team especially on console so yes i am very glad groups only fight other groups
Well, at least you’re not me. I made $0 this year trying to git gud at Overwatch.
A 14% win ratio? You’re a living deity. Mine hovers around 11% after the forced losses kick in. And I’m something like a season high of 600sr. It should be a vaccuum of unavoidable wins down there.
I used to think I would quit if I ever broke into silver. I mean really break in, like blatant silver i.e. 1504sr and I’m out. At this point though, I’d probably uninstall if I ever won more than 30% in the bottom 1%. I would consider that beating the game.
Yes…a 65% winrate for 6 seasons is terrible…
Please read before you comment things, it is very counterproductive for you to just randomly say things.
Anywhere from 23-56 SR per match lost. I win about 24-30, so no matter what it is always at a deficit to my SR. No matter how well I perform, I can never earn more than I lost. Every loss means I would have to win A MINIMUM of two games in a row for every loss. I usually can do that, but these times…when crap like this happens? There is nothing to really do besides suck itup and keep trying my hardest.
But then it keeps going for weeks, and you start to lose faith in yourself because then you question your own skills, and its a downward slope.
The data in the game suggests that I should be in Plat, and every match I play I am always at least a good factor in a victory (yeah, I’ve messed up a lot too lol) at this point, but it never feels like I get rewarded. It seems that no matter how good I do, Blizzard wants to push me into groups that have no real desire to win.
Simple things that are just a basic component of the game. Some things might seem mean, but it is just a fact.
You NEED microphone. Nobody expects you to be some pro-level shot caller, but seriously any bit of info can help. I have seen THOUSANDS of healers getting ganked by the enemy Reaper…but nobody knew because they were not in voice coms, so they had to stop and type out that somebody was behind…and since nobody reads the text chat, nobody saw the message till it was too late.
Another must have: The same language. Here in the NA server, where something like 89% of the population speaks English? There is no reason why you would pick the NA server when you do not speak English. That is a mistake on YOUR part and YOU are the problem when you do it.
I do not speak Polish, and as such I do not go to the EU servers and try and match up with the Polish players…because communication becomes impractical.
Another thing to have is a good internet connection. DO NOT COME INTO RANKED GAMES WITH A BAD INTERNET CONNECTION. You are just going to end up throwing the game, and you are nothing but a toxic little sludge monster for doing that. DC happens to even the best internet connections…but when you are constantly playing in 500ms ping? No, dont even log on. Just go play Solitaire or something, but just stay out of ranked. You are ruining everybody else’s experience.
Dont come into a match with a poor attitude. You might have just come from a game that lost hard. But this game could be a win, and you starting the match off with some negative nonsense is just detrimental to your team.
The problem is that people are coming into ranked with no skills, no understanding of how the game works, and you only need to be level 20(?) to join in? That is a ridiculously low ceiling. I remember in LoL where you basically had to play something towards 100 games before you had a high enough level to play ranked. Heck, if I remember correctly you had to play at least 20 matches just to stop playing against bots…something ridiculous, its been a long time lol. Anyway, even then with people needing to play a bunch of games first, you still ended up with players who didnt know how to play the game…BUT, the numbers were far fewer. There were MORE people that knew how to play, even if they were not that great…they still understood at least the basics…but here? We dont even cover the basics before they let you out into the world.
Then the ranking system enforces the old attitude of “Gold is Number One”…Gold means next to nothing, but everybody brags about it and actually means it as a brag. I’ve said it, and it is always followed up by depression. Why do I have Gold healing as Sombra? WHY DO I HAVE GOLD HEALING AS REAPER, WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE? Why do I have Gold damage and Gold healing as Roadhog? I am only healing me, why are you not healing the team? But if you ask them, they just rage and start throwing…because gods forbid that you try and correct things so that you can win…
And that is the problem I see the most. Most people do not care to win. They just want to play the game however they want, and basically tell everybody to go F Themselves, because reasons…
Which is funny. We have several game modes that allow you to literally do anything you want to. You want McCree to have a 2 second cooldown on his Ult? Do it. You want Reapers ult to last for 30 seconds? GO FOR IT…
But when you join into ranked, you can’t do that crap. Join into a ranked game, and be prepared to communicate. Be prepared to work with a team to accomplish the only goal of the game: Click foreheads till you win! We are here for the win. The fun comes from the effort, the trials and tribulations of group workings. The fun IS the competition, even when you lose. But so many people seem to be coming into ranked with the attitude that it is just like QP, and you can just do anything with no consequences.
People are not playing ranked in a serious way, and that is a core problem.
And some of that problem can be fixed by teaching the players early on about what each mode is for, and how you are expected to play it. Tell players about the features. Stop letting people buy this game for $12 USD, then just leave them to figure it out on their own! That is wrong.
And nobody talks about it until it becomes a problem.
I agree with your whole post, just took the last section out.
You are right. People from pros and streamers to people like “Your Overwatch” and the other million Overwatch YouTubers…all the way down to people in Bronze, there are people who notice this crap. People have been calling it out for years, but yet there are still people who seem to think it is all about your skill.
My rank in Halo 2? THAT was MY skill showing. Eclipse. Try getting there and telling me that somebody is a bad player…The same thing here, I am constantly improving, yet every time I start doing better and better, they smack me down a solid two ranks. Not even a gradual thing. It is always these two-week-long journeys back into ranks that I trudged my way out of several times before.
Everybody knows something is wrong, but everybody wants to mask it with stupid crap about how the system is perfect and never messes up and everybody belongs at the rank they are in…yet many people have proven time and again that it is simply not true.
They always bring up “well, this Top 500 player can do it, so you should do if you were that good”
Well, first off? Nobody said they were that good. Second, no crap the Top 500 player can do that. That is why they are top 500. But you are comparing Apples to Chickens. They are both living things, but they are completely different.
These people who are top 500, they are the people who eat, sleep, dream, poop, and everything else while they play Overwatch. They have reflexes down to the 0.00000000001th second or some crazy stuff…of course they can flex on the scrubs like us down in the common ranks like “GM” and “Diamond”.
That is like saying “Well, Sam Fischer can sneak into this secret military base, so why cant you”…um, maybe because I do not know how to fit inside a bowl of cheerios to stab the bad guys in the teeth? (hopefully somebody gets the refference lol) but the regular people like us? ALL OF US ON THE FORUMS…the average player has to rely on their team. We are not gods, we need teamwork. We can only carry so much in a game. I can heal the crap out of my team. I can go into a match with Moira and LITERALLY get my ult every thirty seconds, and get 67 kills in a match, with 46k damage done, and 89k healing done, with 7 minutes on the objective (yes, this stuff actually happened in precisely one match)…but then still lose the game because there are two people on the team just not doing their job. It can be literally one person not doing their job, adn the whole match is lost.
So when you say that one person can carry, you are wrong. One GREAT AMAZINGLY TALENTED PLAYER WHO IS AT THE VERY TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN CAN CARRY…but the regular people who improve over time, and have regular human reaction times? We have to work at it.
And you know what the problem is? The system is punishing people for doing good, and it is super obvious.
There is no way that I went 7 seasons with a 65% winrate on my healers…only to suddenly lose almost 15% of my winrate in just a couple weeks? It makes literally no sense unless I was intentionally throwing.
None of you know me well enough, but here is a small thing to think about.
I have NEVER, ever…not even once, have I ever left a match. No matter how bad it got, I never left (I did DC once, but the power for the whole city went out, so what could I do, you know?) and I never gave up. I have always been the epitome of trying. I do not give up. Raiding in WoW? I made my raid teams SICK of hearing my voice because I would keep pushing us till we downed the boss we said we would. I never let my people down, and I do everything I can to make sure they have the tools to succede. I do that in real life, and I do it in games. These people end up being your friends, you know?
And I cant get that in Overwatch. The community is overly toxic and counterproductive towards its own goals.
I come here to try and get people to talk and discuss, but half of you just come in here saying dumb crap that detracts from everything.
We need a community, and we need to take ourselves seriously, or this game is going to flop just like DIII. Their community is so toxic that you cant even ask a question without them screeching at you in the chat about “come play hardcore mode before you ask questions” or more commonly “just go ask google, you R-word (lol)”…you legit cant ask questions in there, because the community just immediately turns toxic and treats you like some 2 IQ having lump of coal, HOW DARE YOU ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT A SURPRISINGLY COMPLICATED SYSTEM!?
Same with Path of Exile. Their community is toxic, and it shows. You try and ask a question, and nobody knows the answer because the game is so ridiculously complicated that nobody knows how to play without a verbatim, step-by-step tutorial for every little step. There are thousands of talent options, and only some of them are valid, there are so many hybrid things…it is legit so many options, that even the hardcore players cant play it…and new players just get squashed to death because the community.
Let us make our community better, by just being honest about the ranked system.
Let us start there.
So…again, mistaking an online video game for an actual competition system. I get it, marketing called it ‘Competitive’, we got suckered in and bought it.
But in no world is anything online competitive, which is why the Overwatch League is not run across the internet, but on a LAN system, and you go to the stadium to play.
Seriously, think it through. It’s a ladder. You don’t get any reward worth having. Nobody cares if you have all those losses, or 60 wins and 10 losses, either, except you, OP. Start considering that this game is for fun, casual play and when I say casual, I mean, you’re a casual in this game even if you are a GM, if you don’t make a living off this game. No doubt a GM has skill, but a GM is as much an amateur as a bronze player in the eyes of anyone who does this as a pro.
Or drop the game if it is frustrating you. But come on, since year one everyone has known this matchmaking system is a massive failure and I don’t even necessarily blame Blizzard for that. Matchmaking is horrible in every game. What I do blame them for is trying to convince people this was some secret special super extra good ‘competitive’ gaming that was different from whatever else is out there on the internet. It isn’t.
If you really, really, really want to play a game just because it is competitive, you’re still better off in other games. Try Fortnite, and I’m not kidding, it’s way better for that.
Did you read the part where I lost almost 70 games?
What are you even saying at this point? WE can all do the math.
I do not understand what you are trying to convey here, because we already know…
Yeah. Most of them were about that much SR. But then I went on a big winning streak after that, but it was not enough to make up for the losses, sadly.
If you’re losing 50-60 SR every game then your MMR is super low - i.e. you got boosted, whether intentionally or not. Or, you’re mis-remembering how many games and how much SR you lost. I don’t think I’ve ever lost that much in a game, but I’ve seen my wife lose that much and this is her first shooter.
If only that were even a thing. if anything, my healing MMR would be on plat level. 65% winrate on all healers? That is seriously NOT being boosted or deserving of Silver or even Gold. Seriously, the numbers speak but the system is not working for us.
Again, to Overwatch, “basics” is just "wasd to move, mouse to move camera, LMB/RMB/Space/Shift/E/Q/Ctrl/V to do things and… that’s it. I don’t know how LoL treats “basics”, so… yeah.
