540hz being overkill is relative. Because I think when people think about that, and diminishing returns they’re looking at the cost to performance value. a monitor going between $800-$2k isn’t denting every pocket heavily. Some gamers make that type of money within a few hours.
We can say they have more money than sense, but the reality is we all generally make purchases that someone else wouldn’t value like we do. a 5 dollar coffee for you may not be considered for the next person. A night out and $20/$50/$100 spent is passed on by someone else. A PC to play video games, a new gaming console, or concert sounds absurd to a person who finds value in paying for netflix for their entertainment. And only then because they can split the cost with roommates by only paying 5 bucks a month.
I just find it useless to look at the cost of what someone else spent on an item and having your eyes boggled, when we all value things differently.
Exactly.
If you ask me, I’d be perfectly happy with a 240hz oled, but since 480hz came out i got one to see if i notice a difference - and i did - so i upgraded.
I do think most of these monitors are overpriced though. But that’s how it always goes with new stuff. (and often ‘gaming’ products)
And no, it did not make me better at the game. But I can at least appreciate even smoother motion while I am on my loss streak.
That doesn’t make it any less of a waste of money.
It’s not though. It’s that there is very little difference. That’s what diminishing returns means. 60-144hz, HUGE difference, absolutely worth it, no matter what the cost. 540hz monitor? Why even? lol. Barely noticeable, if at all. Just because I have money doesn’t mean I want to throw it away. I wouldn’t pay $1 even. This guy says he got it for free though, which, I guess I’d use it if it was free, lol.
Its always funny to me, that people play this game on low with like 3000 FPS and think that it will make them better somehow. As long as you not a pro player with godlike reflexes in a tournament, this will not change the outcome of a match.
As for your question (if its not bait): the game needs more resources to run than it did years ago. This has something to do with lighting, more effects, shadows and mainly another player if you play 6v6. Its good optimized, but not for overkill FPS.
While you’re commenting, you are completing restating the point that I’ve made and don’t fully realize it.
There are things you’ve purchased and deem worthy of your investment whether that’s time or some other form of currency that someone, somewhere thinks is a waste. Your perception of value is largely irrelevant, as is mine when comparing it to what someone else does want for something they don’t necessarily need.
Doesn’t matter matter how much of a waste we think another person’s purchase is if they want it.
I’d never buy BF2042 or the latest COD. I’m not going to go tell someone that enjoys those games they’ve wasted their money playing it. It doesn’t matter what I think, long as they enjoy it.
Some of you are so caught up in thinking you need to devalue what someone else purchases that it actually becomes silly. But this is a public forum where people can state their opinions on what they think of someone’s purchase. In my own way I’m following suite.
Some things have inherent value. If I sell you a penny for $1000, your point seems to be, “well, he REALLY liked that penny, so it makes sense and is okay!”
Of course, we all know that phrase. The first response about the monitor surely goes off of it. And that’s my point. Whatever you’re using to type with is something not worth the investment to another person as well. They wouldn’t even spend a penny on it.
Also not knowing why someone wants something is another part of this as well. It doesn’t matter what you deem worthy or not if they want it. You want to play OW2. Others think you’re foolish for doing so. Doesn’t matter, long as you like doing it.
I think you’re missing the point but that’s okay. Whoosh is fine. I don’t feel like trying to explain this very basic concept to you lol. Anyways, I’m too tired I’m going to sleep have a good night my friend
People are weird and tend to try to bring people down if they have anything good happen to them often times.
It’s like some kind of personal attack on them.
You see how people act when they see someone driving a nice car, or someone close to them gets a promotion. They get real funny and say snide remarks like “Maria is bragging.”
They’ll be quick to say that’s not what it’s about, and that it’s a waste. But there’s a lot of people who don’t like for others to have nice things. And of course there’s a tapering point to that. Get something decently nice. Just not too nice.
Well, 5800x3d is a good CPU, but overwatch is also getting more resource heavy. Especially when loading render cache, my 5900x can be maxed out at 100% on all 24 threads. But 400fps is more than enough tho.
You don’t need to do this if your GPU supports Directx12 and the game client (Overwatch) is running that API. But it might help if you’re still using an older GPU that doesn’t support Overwatch’s Directx12 API. I have RX 5700XT and for some reason, Overwatch only runs using Directx11. So I guess it has to be the newer cards that can support Overwatch’s Dx12 API.
On the other hand, I’ve heard that windows 11 improved their flip model presentation, so that even Directx11 games have low input lag now comparably to Directx12 games, so I’m not sure if disabling full-screen optimization is still necessary for Directx11 games (at least on windows 11).
But if you’re running windows 10 + your GPU can’t runOverwatch using Directx12, then disabling full-screen optimization might still be helpful though.
update: i rolled back my graphics driver to 537.58 (Oct 2023) and im getting stable 600fps now. it seems the newer nvidia drivers are not as optimized for overwatch. the drivers i tried were 576.28, 566.36, and 560.94
566.36 was the worst consistently fluctuating down to 300-400~fps.
576.28/560.94 werent as bad but still was fluctuating down to 400-550.
with 537.58 the fps counter goes 599 599 599 600 599 599 with one dot. the nvidia drivers optimization for overwatch seems to have degraded over time
