23k healing, 8k damage. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to Overwatch, where amazingly high stats don’t necessarily mean you’ll win.
Can I take your order?

Yeap. I’ve won games with our team being out-killed and out-healed overall. The objective is always the most important part.

Without seeing the game, it is hard to say for sure. Without discussing any swaps, it seems likely you did too much healing. People can complain about dps Moira all they want, but if you aren’t pumping damage out on the character and helping clinch kills, you’re probably being too much of a healbot.

I recently had a game with 23k healing but I had 18k damage for an apples to oranges comparison.

Edit: Tesla did a bronze to GM challenge on Moira recently that I would recommend you look up if you want some informative gameplay to mimic.

this is what youve been doing wrong.

moira is a very bad support in most comps. her greatest strength is shes very hard to dive but her weakness’s include…

very low healing range
very low dmg
no extra utility (dmg is her utility)
limited healing resources

moira has her place and there are even top 500 moira players but that doesnt mean the hero is good overall, just good in certain situations. if you play her properly in those situations (like in a rush comp) she can be useful (though right now kiriko is 2-3 times better then every other support so its not as true at the moment) but outside of those situations she loses effectiveness very quickly.

having more dmg/healing isnt always a good thing because it depends more on who you are doing it to.

if your healing the wrong ppl in a given moment and someone dies then thats why you lost that team fight and if you do that enough you lose the entire match. the same goes to dmg, as soldier i can shoot into a roadhog and end a qp match with 30k+ dmg but lose or i can end it with 5k-10k and win because i focused the squishies.

the problem is most likely your team set up moira sucks with wiston dva as your tank try ana lucio moira brings no support she just healing and that’s why she is terrible right know try zen or bap if you want to help with damage or go kiriko and have the most utility in th whole game

also moira has horrible survivability

and on that a high healing stat with no progress on point means your just reading your enemies ults

Moira isn’t the only hero I have been playing, though. I have been on Ana and Baptiste. And Mercy. I will try to determine who the right person to heal is tho and try to utilize my ult better. When I am Ana, I usually give the nano to the dps with the most kills/damage done. I will re-evaluate who I am healing, too.

Stats dont matter as much as saves and picks.

I’ve played with DPS and support that out dmg me but have more deaths and very little elims.

Moira’s survability is, mostly, why I play her. She is slippery. When I know the team isn’t going to benefit from Moira, I play Ana, Baptiste, or Mercy.

I hate to say this.

I love Moira as a character, but she provides no utility and raw healing is just not as valuable anymore, with one tank. Other supports do decent damage like Moira but have good util: Lucio, Ana, Kiriko, Baptiste.

Until they rework her, if you’re finding you’re struggling, maybe just switch it up more.

with ana i dont usually care about the “best dps” i care about the person who benefits the most from it.

so ill give it to a genji so he can be more aggressive, or a reaper for the same reason. and alot of the times id use it to save someone from death because them not dying in the fight is more important then saving it for a “perfect” scenario.

if you want to learn how to play ana better the first hour of this video ill put below can help alot.

its an unranked to gm ow2 ana only and he explains his thought process alot during it. who hes shooting, why hes moving a certain way ect.

if you ever find yourself unsure how to climb as a hero an unranked to gm (for ow2) can be a big help assuming you can either analyze it yourself or they explain themselves like this guy does.

(there was also i think a bronze to gm moira one someone did)

I have been playing much more than Moira. The game I referred to, I was Moira.

Ah. I can’t say then. Sometimes you just get rolled.

If there’s any advice I can give, it’s don’t worry about wins and losses in the moment and just trust the process.

Thank you very much! I appreciate you directing me to a video I can learn from!

Moira has almost no utility and mercy relies on decent dps to get good value. I would stick with ana or other supports that have solo carry potential and fight winning utility.

ML7 is great source for learning proper support play as well. He’s one of the best and realest ladder grinders in the game.

but that’s the thing she is not she can move but that not survivability bap and kiriko has survivability
being able to run away is just that running away your practically dead for the time you ran because your not healing or dealing damage

recoment watching this its harsh but talks about and shows why shes not survivalble

Here’s the unranked to GM on Moira from Tesla that I mentioned earlier. Very important thing I want to draw attention to - he loses the first game in Bronze despite having more than 30k heals. Support is so much more than healing in practice, and it’s all the extra stuff that separates the good players from the crowd.

Along with the information everyone has provided, Arx also has useful tips about playing Moira.

While what a lot of people said is true, regarding a lack of utility, it doesn’t mean that the pick itself is always the problem.

It’s absolutely worth it to review your circumstances and if there’s another character that could be providing more impact, but the pick itself isnt an inherent indicator of why you’re struggling. Remember that.

Contrary to some, and my own point, bringing the “damage” up (IE: specifically for critical kills on supports in the backline, or fade-jumping to a difficult-to-access Widow) is also noteworthy. Identifying the moment you can actually afford, or rather that your team is able to afford you to be able to harass backline/snipers is worth it, but you must be critical in those times of what’s going to happen once you do engage.

Just keep in mind, the more mindless dmg orbs you through out (outside of charging your ult), also feeds their support if there’s no kill condition tied to it.

Opportunity and escape-route.

ITT: while Moira lacks utility, which your other support may provide, her ability to be impactful in an aggressive way (for supports) is almost unchallenged with her kit… it unfortunately revolves around, to reiterate, what you and your team can afford and your ability to identify the times it will be worth it.

As well, this is going to depend heavily on the rank you’re playing in. This comes from someone who only peaked Diamond (then took a long break), so take what I say with a grain of salt. I was still making it work there
