Some of your complaint are using the wrong scapegoats.
The problem is, it’s called “Role Queue Beta” because, from Blizzard own admission, matchmaking is gonna be bad for a while, i.e. game are going to be unbalanced and unfair.
That is the crux of the problem. The problem is real (worst match maker than in a while) and it won’t be solved overnight and it’s Overwatch team’s top priority.
Just suck it up and give it some time… They are working on it!
Flex Players definitely still exist, just not how they used to be. Now, being able to flex within a role is important. If you can play both main and off tanks, you’re a flex player. If you can play high healing or high utility supports, you’re a flex player. If you can play a multitude of different dps with very different skill sets efficiently, you’re a flex player.
Basically, if your hero pool within a single role allows you to combat multiple threats from the enemy team, you’re a flex player, and you’re needed now more than ever.
So far my experience in gold role queue is dps Moira slaughtering the whole team every game. It probably stops being effective at the point where dps can reliably kill someone, not just hit some body shots but here it seems pretty effective.
Having a 3 dps limit in comp or limiting how much a player can dps or allowing a Group to determine their comp lineup is better…yeah this sucks…Sigma and Reaper are instantly meta and Brig is dead…there are fewer options to staying alive now as a healer on the back line.
So the same thing as before minus everyone rage switching to dps?
So the same thing as before with dive? So you are complaining about 2 meta team comps instead of 1?
I don’t know what you are trying to get at? None of this has anything to do with 222.
Sym is OPAF right now cause of the beam changes.
This is a shame and a blessing at the same time, most of the time people switch out of their role and basically throw a winnable game, sometimes though it was good.
There are multiple good things about 222 but the most important one is balance. They nerfed all those heroes because of GOATS. Imagine if role lock existed before. Those nerfs wouldn’t have been needed. Not only that. The developers have more freedom when creating a new hero. No longer they have to worry about creating a meta like GOATS. You will see as time goes on.
if you got a bad healer, you swapping off… let’s say DPS to help doesn’t negate the fact that there’s still a bad healer on your team. In fact, swapping and losing your damage output might prove to be more harmful than good.
disagree. And if it wasn’t bunker and dive, then it would be goats or sniper meta. It doesn’t matter what changes are made, there will always be a meta, and people will hate playing it.
90% is an exaggeration - even if you chose to tank or heal you get 22% of the roster. DPS of course get access to well over 50%.
Symm was never a thing. Symm has consistently been the worst hero in the game. Situational heroes (AKA: never pick these heroes) are just bad game design… because in OW, many of them are so situational to the point where they are so rarly useful that they may as well be deleted from the game . With 2-2-2 Hopefully blizzard will see some common sense and rebalance them accodingly.
can still flex within a role. Even for tanks, the applications between roadhog, Orisa, Zarya make a world of difference.
I just think there’s not enough tank or support heroes for limitation like 2-2-2 lock. Visually it looks horrible (more than half of heroes are DPS and some tanks and supports in the right and left corner of the screen).
Are healers really meant to be self-sufficient though? Isn’t the healers being somewhat reliant on their team for protection a design element that is intended to promote teamwork?
9/10 you wouldn’t have been able to change anything by switching
two meta is meglio che one (weird reference, hope someone gets it).
Also the meta isn’t really a reason, it’s like saying not role queue is all about quad tank/dive/double sniper/goats, balance changes are supposed to change the meta.
Healers are actually all quite powerful, but i agree that tanks need some buffs. Orisa is as powerful as she is because she’s the only one that can actually put up a shield that isn’t burst down in an instant and can avoid the damage creep with fortify.
honestly, 90% of flex players are dps or tank main forced to go healer or ar just people that pick last all the time and often have to solo tank or solo heal.
Very few can actually play several roles at the same level of efficiency. If anything role queue helps you identify how good you actually are with a specific role (kaplan mentioned being surprised at how his healer play actually was, when he thought it was on par with his tank).
I mean if you wanna play symmetra pick dps. Although idiots still flame her and her tp could use a small buff (like halved cd if self destroyed, exactly like torb’s), she’s actually pretty powerful, especially with the beam changes.
if anything, not being able to cover for them will make one tricking harder to climb with.
But one tricking in of itself isn’t a massive problem, especially with 2-2-2. If one can one trick rein into gm he’s probably a very good rein for example.
actually goats was going away anyway, role queue was just the last shot against it.
The real reason for role queu is to prevent another goats-like meta to ever come and also making balance changes and new hero design less restrictive.
Now they can double down on barrier tanks and aoe healers knowing they won’t be stacked.
They straight up said Sigma wouldn’t have been possible without role queue. Imagine rein-orisa-sigma, try to put down that barrier.
problem with looking for group is that it was amazing on paper, but useless in practice. It wasn’t enforced, so you could make a balanced team on it, but then get wrecked by a 3-3 or 4-2 cheese comp.
That and lfg had so many possible permutations (any mixup of role, enforced or not, rank, endorsment) that it was essentially like not having it.
That and it took twice the queue time for a vaguely better match.
Actually, kaplan straight up said LFG was supposed to be our role queue and role queue was the plan B. If lfg had worked i doubt they’d have wasted almost an entire year working on role queue.
As for me, i feel that this is the order the game needed. We’re gonna need a LOT of balance changes (i’m looking forward for a massive tank rebalance patch) but this is going to be overall healthier.
All i know is that as a tank main i can finally play knowing i’ll have an off tank and two healers.
I also have no problem flexing between tanks.
Briggite’s 200 hp shield is a joke (but i really like 3 armor packs)
Lucio is funniest support to play but his speed has been nerfed
Mercy…well… nowhere near to be powerful
Zen’s discord orb has been nerfed
Ana is fine
Moira is in perfect spot i think
oh and Baptiste is good either but i find him pretty situational hero
brig could use work i agree.
Mercy is actually not to be underestimated.
Lucio is still incredibly useful.
Zen’s nerf barely dented him and it’s actually somewhat of a buff in some cases.
Don’t mix up “meta” with “weak”.
Really, the current meta is Orisa, Mei and then the rest is very flexible.
And Orisa is a must pick just because all the other tanks are a heap of trash more than her being powerful.
You can totally switch within role to fill the gaps in the team - lacking DPS? Go Zen, or zarya.
TBH, most comps have an answer now, it just depends if your team can actually do it (so its harder to do at low ranks - bunker is pretty easy to do at low ranks, so its common).
Situational DPS is definitely a thing, you just have to be a DPS to do it. You cant blame tanks and healers for that.
GOOD flex players still flex within role, because that’s what they always did when they needed to.
1 tricking is more likely to get you hardcountered now.
I feel like it’s traded some old bad things for new ones. I certainly don’t think it’s better this way, but I also don’t think it’s a game killer either.
Yes they are…
The only difference is now you choose to flex before you queue by picking all three roles then queuing. The principle is still the same: Your teammates pick their roles, you “flex”.
A lot of games when thing’s are not working I repick. I repick a lot actually. I play healer main and when losing, I go all in and try be creative with my picks. Today’s freaking update is a big FU to me. Now there is no hope, no room for risk. Before I could adapt to the situation and pick whatever was relevant. Now I have to just wait when it’s over as Lucio when before I could pick Bastion and try to risk. This freaking change killed OW for me, so I could only hope that after beta this BS system gets fixed. I played OW for years and this feels like the worst thing that happened to the game. Please, come to your senses, Blizzard!
