I don’t know, If you only play placement matches It can take a while to get all golden weapons you want. Especially if you’re low rank (what is expected if you only play placement matches)
The only real, glaring problem that I have with role-queue is that mid-match swapping becomes a thing of the past.
Best case scenario with role-locking is that the players on your team are flexible enough to be able to pick heroes within their role that might be able to help in a given situation. For example, if there’s a Pharah or Pharmercy on the enemy team that the dps are struggling to kill or can’t kill because they don’t play any of her counters, perhaps the other roles on the team could swap characters to help, like maybe one of the support players could pick Ana, or one of the tanks could swap to Winston / Dva, etc. Or maybe one of the dps could pick Sombra or something and the team could try to dive the Pharah when she gets hacked.
It would certainly make things…interesting.
Oh–also, longer queue times for dps players is a big problem but is probably unavoidable to be honest, just because of supply and demand…
And then there’s the issue of one-tricks which becomes a much bigger problem when roles are enforced…
But overall, I still support enforced 2-2-2 and role queue if it means a higher quality of matches and reduced tilt.
I am with you on this one. Locking roles will only slow the matchmaking, and punish players who are good with at least 1 hero in every role and love to help their team.
In this specific instance, allow me to use my sister as an example. She is a tank/support main. If she wanted to queue as a DPS, her best characters are Soldier, Bastion, Torbjorn, and Mei. If we need anything else, the best she can do is try; however, under the current system, she can swap back to a tank or support. Let us say we encounter pirateship. None of her characters would do well against it, the best we could manage is a Bastion mirror.
In this system, we could allow a former tank or support to go Hanzo or Sombra, which would hypothetically be me as they are my second and third most played respectively. In a forced role lock, I would be stuck in a role I chose, but am not entire sure what to do, the team is forced build around her niche DPS pick when she could have just went Orisa/Hog herself. The best we can hope for is that the other DPS is an actual DPS main that has a character they can reliably use and have them carry instead of just swapping around and utilizing the entire skillset of our team.
That is bad. We lose because of the lack of flexibility. Sometimes you HAVE to run triple DPS. Imagine getting stuck with a Sombra and Torbjorn, that actually happened to me. I went Reaper and it actually worked out because I compensate for the lower damage of the Sombra, she compensated for the turrets vulnerability by hacking people out of position, and I held them at the gates. In 2-2-2, everyone would be forced to run off-characters to try and compensate, but we would still likely need the barrier for Torbjorn, which messes with the Sombra synergy.
Just two examples of why it does not matter that you opt into the role. The lack of flexibility is the issue. Not that you get to play what you want.
I think you assuming all bronze players are in bronze simply because they:
Deserve to be there
You don’t play enough to climb
In my own experience, there can be many, many more reasons of why someone is stuck in a rank. In Bronze, usually, the main reason you are stuck in there is that you are being held back by some external force. For example, someone may be held in Bronze because they do not have a good enough computer to get enough frames to properly run the game. For another example, most players in Bronze have absolutely no team coherence. The team can simply not function well together and you have to solo carry. In my case, as a Lucio main, I struggle from trying to solo carry in damage because often times I cannot rely on my team to move with our tanks and get constant picks. You are making this overly specific and maybe I am making it overly broad, but there are many more reasons that you are being completely ignorant to all of this.
I think that’s the point. Below masters It’s already 2-2-2 and at master and gm forced 2-2-2 isn’t needed because they know how to play the game, they don’t need forced comps
Its not so much the fact that 2-2-2 needs to be forced being the point, its the fact that role queue HAS to be implemented for a half decent competitive experience, but how would you do that? Thats why 2-2-2 needs to be forced.
This statement really makes me grind my teeth. A lot of us play the game because we love the game and not just to climb. TBH you sound like someone that hates the game. Why do you play it? I HONESTLY wonder.
this, especially. Brig outside of goats likely needs a buff. Moira outside of goats needs help. Tanks like orisa or hog who aren’t seeing time played need help.
Issue is that buffing any of these characters adds new fire to goats, instead of detracting from it.
Make it seem like 4-5 supports is the norm in your games with not enough DPS… My games are 3-4 DPS insta-lockers, NOT too many supports. IF we have too many supports, we can go GOATs for easy win.
