🏓 Why are people posting about Hong Kong? [Explanation]

You’re probably right. There you go then :+1:

In regards to Overwatch, this topic has expired in terms of its relevancy to the game. The issue was handled harshly at first (to make an example for anyone else who wants to break their rules in regards to political messages) and was partially retracted. As far as Overwatch is concerned, the issue is sealed. Now its just a political one for the Chinese as a whole to decide, and not some random wannabe internet activist with no stake in it.

Perhaps you’re right. who knows. But given how things are. I can see this sort of thing happening again. Maybe not with blizzard or perhaps it will but we simply won’t hear about it this next time.

It won’t so long as people respect the very clear rules Blizzard has on ANY political messages on their platform. That this happened within the Chinese sphere of influence (Taiwan was where the tourny was held right?) only exacerbated the situation further. The US acts the same way in regards to Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, the list goes on basically lmao we react very harshly to those who interfere in places we think we control.

You’re not wrong there.

There’s nothing more to be gained from fighting on this front. Squeezing out any more is not an effective use of resources when there are plenty of other battles to be fought, doubly so when the CCP itself is so vulnerable right now.

pls don’t revive this
this drama is just too stupid to begin with

i hate seeing youtuber that Didn’t even play Blizzard games begin protest to blizzard because they only follow what is the hot topic ( Stupid Gaming journalist )

Congratulations on your own Wikipedia entry Blizzard: ~https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitzchung_controversy~

Can’t wait for the next one.

Ah yes, this is still going on.

Why are you necro’ing this?

Why did Blizzard’s president never retract the punishment and apologize for punishing Blitzchung?

Every day is another day Blizzard chooses not to fix this egregious insult to Hong Kong, Blitzchung, and the wishes of the Blizzard community at large.

Every day Blizzard revives this topic’s relevance by sticking to a policy no one but their President’s pockets agrees with.

It is only natural to return the favor.

"(o) Engaging in any act that, in Blizzard’s sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damage’s Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the player’s prize total to $0 USD, in addition to other remedies which may be provided for under the Handbook and Blizzard’s Website Terms."

Blitzchung, the player sported a mask and said “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our time.”

Now, everyone can argue X person has X good intent, but for a public largely unaware of the political climate between China and Hong Kong at that time -- in addition to using a gaming platform of all things to make a political statement -- Blizzard had made the logical leap any of us would make.

“hey, this could be pretty divisive. I don’t want to clean up blood in the parking lot later.”

Beyond even it being in a contract, it’s typically common etiquette to use your personal platforms and or devices to convey your message. Had he waited maybe an hour or two later to post on twitter, headlines would be reading “Hearthstone Grand Master Voices Concern…”

None of your movements are inherently bad or being intentionally shutdown, but there’s a time and place for everything. There are people that paid to be there and enjoy Hearthstone that later had to be “enlightened” or be seen as the bigot on a car drive home.

I’m all for boycotting Blizzard since the content for all the games is incredibly lack luster, but politics is not solved by anarchy as evident by modern events…

Tl;Dr
You mean I CAN’T use Innvitationals to announce my politics!?
Time and place is all it is. Even he knows what he did. Stop necro’ing something the dude is cool with.

Well, “necroing” an old thread rather than posting a new one reduces the search results, making it easier to weed through all the chaff that builds up on a board search over the years.

Becouse Imma Mei main. And Meis chineze

Blizzard: “We oppose using out platform for political statements.”

Also Blizzard: “We support using our platform for political statements, as long as they aren’t about Hong Kong.”

National Security Laws are in place in HK. Suck it westerners.

This is what Blizzard defended. No one should forget, what Brewmaster just said, that “National Security Laws are in place in HK. Suck it westerners” is a mentality Blizzard actively defended by censoring Blitzchung who spoke out for Hong Kong’s freedom, which Blizzard refused to ever undo the punishment of and further refused to apologize for censoring him and the interviewers who spoke with him. Blizzard died on this hill, and history will show while Blizzard was not the final nail in the coffin, it was one of the many nails that was hammered in line. In the name of greed and the Chinese Communist Party’s authority, Blizzard bent the knee while most businesses are seeking to move out of China specifically for these forms of censorship and power abuse. Blizzard is proud to sacrifice its long-term ethics in the name of short-term profits. Blizzard is an unethical company that, given its stance, should seriously reconsider why it exists if it stands against humanity and human rights to this stubborn of an extent.

Every day is another day Blizzard stands by the decision to not apologize for having given the punishment, and insists that punishment was warranted for doing the right thing. Blizzard employees should find good-paying jobs at companies with bright ethical futures ahead of them -companies far, far away from Blizzard.
