šŸ“ Why are people posting about Hong Kong? [Explanation]

Well, since Mei is becoming a symbol of the HK protests they might (:

They can delete her, sure. But they can keep doing that with any other characters of their games until nothing is left.

No way out if people get serious about this.

Was it a limited edition? (It really is gone)

Not as far as I can tell

It seems it wasn’t a limited time exclusive. Holy poops.

EDIT: The other figurines are still up, however. Will have to keep an eye on those.

CM: ā€œOops people are still talking about the horrible thing we did. MERGE TIME!ā€

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

I never realized how based LOTRs was till i grew up

Also:

Two months back Blizzard had added words related to the HK protests to the WoW chinese profanity filters. You can see the list inside the link.

It was clear what side they were on even then.

It also seems the word Winnie the Pooh caused temp bans, as well.

Have you even read blizzard ToS? Literally anything anyone says can be considered ā€œbreaking ToSā€ as long as blizzard considers it offensive or making them look bad. In this case it threatened their money so they took action. Ironically blizzard ToS isn’t far off from Chinese laws. ā€œIf you say something that makes our government look bad or offends a group of people you will be punished!ā€. If this was a US law would you still agree with it then? If you can’t support freedom of speech you can’t call yourself an American. Or maybe you just can’t get behind this movement cause you can’t lose your precious video games. Either way, pathetic.

:ping_pong: Mei has a Ping Pong emote. Ping Pong sounds like Hong Kong.

:bear::honey_pot: Mei has a bee-keeping costume. Winnie the Pooh is a joke symbol of China’s King.

:hong_kong: She is Chinese, yet is used as a symbol of Hong Kong support.

Isn’t that A-Mei-Zing? I wonder if the name Mei will get banned in China if we meme it enough.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen and heard, China’s government is structured like a fascist, totalitarian oligarchy.

But the economy is a hybrid between a capitalist and command economy; there are many ā€œprivateā€ Chinese companies, but nearly all of them answer to the CCP in some capacity.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Even if the name gets banned the character will still exist. They’ll probably end up banning the character altogether if this gains enough traction.

Not that this will stop it. Once Mei is banned there they can just choose another character to represent it.
