[❗] TANK dilemma

I think it’s pretty significant even if it is one percent.

And you aren’t looking in the other end. Hog one shotting Winston’s fat head was totally an issue. But they didn’t make it so hog can stop it with Winston by buffing Winston. They nerfed hog. Because people playing against him, aka not tanks, also didn’t like his damage.

Put this for dva, zarya, hog, brig, Zen, Baptiste…people don’t. Like. Them.

And playing against them is a huge part of that.

Imo there is no fundamental way to make dps less popular because they flat don’t want to leave. I mean, even when throwing around role changes , it’s never the obvious one is it?

That the people to be “new tanks” are symm, bastion, Mei…the heroes already unpopular. Why? Because we know genji isn’t actually going to move dps to play tank just because they moved genji there.

bob as a secondary and TNT as an ultimate won’t make ashe a huge popular summoner tank. Because people just don’t like tank.

But, unlike dps, I will say that support and tanks are more loyal to their roles unlike dps. Adding in new tanks and supports keeps them there and happy. Kind of like other things, support often stays. The quarterback, the actors, the artists leave but the rest of the group is usually going to stick around.

It’s why I won’t ever suggest fundamental mechanic changes that take away from a heros base kit let alone a tank. As long as we want tanks, Rein needs* a shield. As long as we want tanks, DM has to stay. Because what draws in a dva player will not be captivated by any other dps.

Moreover, as an IP I thi k you have some options. Lets take your own estimate:

If your estimate is that only 1.7% of them will care because the hogs are fat dps anyway…why have the role at all? Why not just have… Hog as a dps? Zarya as a dps.

Not even 411. Just…drop tank . There’s no point if you want to say that the que times are all that matters
