I would rather have a rework for the tanks to be able to do real tanking, RH to the DPS role and no further splitting of the playerbase…

Yeah, but a large part of this idea is avoiding reworks.
And I wouldn’t want people insisting Doomfist has the same Peeling capability as OffTanks.

How about instead, you have a “muscle” icon? (Like zarya flexing)
That would suit the “bruiser” role.

I’d try colouring in zaryas muscles as a similar color to the other roles, though (black/greyish)

Maybe try Zarya’s Passive’s Icon? I think it would work well describing what off-tank does.

What about a fat missile?

Or a Bomb?

Or a mace’s head that also could resemble a bomb with spikes (a mine)? (I liked this one the most)

Or just put the stick that holds the mace’s head below this “sun” symbol you put in this pic:
