Why am I up against level 1000+ every match as a new player

Genuine question because I want to practice with people my skill, not with people who spend their whole lives playing this game.

Its all about skills, i mean i’m level 6 and go against level 500+ and i totally destroy them

Level dose not = skill :grinning:
The game matches the skill level of players in teams rather than player level.
If the lvl1000 is good then someone on your team should be able to match them or at least the average skill level of the teams should be even.
Other things to consider as well such as have they ever played the hero they have selected before?

Don’t look at level and feel uncomfortable, ether your good or they are bad

**edit … dam i type slow lol

Idk a lot of them if I check their ranks they’re usually gold, platinum or diamond. Yea the matches are challenging and I’m challenged but I’m not good at this game at all so most of the time I lose which isn’t fun for me

It’s skill based, but game knowledge is also important, and a new player simply doesn’t have that. Though to be fair there are some high level account players that have apparently never learned anything, or simply don’t know how to apply it into action.

Losing isn’t supposed to be fun on a moba. I’d take it as a matter of ‘what do I do compared to X player’ instead of look at it as ‘Oh I lost because they’re no lifes’.

People still refuse to learn maps after 1200+, so. To be honest, if you want fun while losing and want competition, just play fighting games instead.

This game definitely does not match with skill, using a mmr system is for 1v1s not 5v5s. a mmr system is never accurate unless it’s a game of chess.

I’ve been wondering about this for the last year and a half.

Yes it shouldn’t happen but it does. Your teammates if they are lvl 1000+ are also wondering why the game put you on their team. The game should try to match players with and against of people of equal skill and experience but it fails at both.

I’m curious, what’s your win rate?
Anyway, I agree. And getting beginners in my matches isn’t fun either. Gets old after the first 5000 times. The reason why i’m on a break. New players get placed all over the low to mid ranks and the skill and knowledge levels are so random on both teams.

Ah thats why I dropped 300MMR on hotslogs in a single day
(again)

Same reason why I sometimes get matched with completely new players when I’m a smurf with 70% win rate over 125 matches.

Matchmaking is trash in this game.

Level != Skill

That’s all there is to it. There’s tons of people who farm XP in vs. AI too. (I don’t understand it.)

You could also be up against vets who haven’t played in a while so their MMR has decayed and the system expects them to be rusty.

People don’t actually enjoy losing to good players in fighting games where they’re even more likely to have an effective 0% chance to win. I have a lot of experience being on the winning end of those kind of games and it gets you inboxed with all manner of vitriol and hate. It’s not even worth padding your win stat if you have the option to leave the match before it starts.

There’s a reason the genre has never been as big as it’s multiplayer alternatives as far as competitively designed games go. There is nothing, and no one else, that a player can blame to assuage their ego when they get absolutely destroyed. A small few will strive to get better in the face of that adversity but most just eventually quit.

Because this game is devoid of players.

And there are hardly any new players picking up the game. So if you’re new, too bad, you will have to play against experienced players or you will never get a game

I was surprised I had to scroll this far down the thread to find the correct answer.

Your choices are:

  1. Play with completely mismatched players, because nobody else is available (was the worst on AUS region with bronze 5 against GM#1, not figuratively but literally)

  2. Don’t get a match at all.

Those are the options at the moment, which is why you as a lv6 go against level 1600 people.

You know what they say? Strong people love to challenge those that are stronger than they are. You said you want to be matched with people of equal skill is nothing but a lot of bull. You just want to be matched against low skilled players for easy win and satisfy your ego. Not trying to be better.

Also, this game has only come out for like 4 years. You being beaten by those that have played this game their whole life is like admitting you’re being beaten by the 4 years old.

Player level does not equal skill level. don’t assume these 2 things are equal.

hey guys! did you know that player level and skill aren’t the exact same thing :man_student:
Everybody has been asking if experience level equals skill level or no
So I though I would finally clear it up. I get it, this is not very logical so no one would conclude such thing on their own. But no worries, i’m here to help because i’m smart

This is how they want new player to learn the game. To mix and match them so they can get a feel for it. Of course it just cause more toxicity than it help anyone. Newer player don’t learn since most of the time they are the cause. Older player get mad and frustrated because they are put with player who don’t seem to know what they are doing. The level is really irrelevant. I’ve seen 1000+ who played like they just started moba for the first time ever. Match making was never good with this game. Back than they would address it a lot. Now though they rather bring out cosmetic more than they want to fix the game. I’ve been with this game since beta. I tap out once before. Than 2.0 brought me back. Now I’m at a point where I’m about to tap out again. I actually quit my match mid way in a game today which I never did before because of this very reason. It just felt like I was babysitting new player all day and it finally got to me. Now I’m questioning myself if I should even bother anymore. I am at a point where i think I’ll only boot up the game when they release new heroes or new event.
