What mechanics do you want to see in hots?

Hey,
There are many concepts of heroes on the internet. Some are consistent and very good, while others are characterized by amazing ideas for new abilities. Some of them are inspired by other games, while others are completely individual.
Most of the concepts are made for pleasure, but some are so good that they let you to hit the game.
It’s unlikely that the developers would copy + paste the whole concept. I thought that maybe we will do a topic in which we will exchange individual capabilities or the mechanics we want to see in HOTS.

The first proposal from the concept of a colleague:

The concept of Nozdormu, author: Asalios

Chrono clone:
Nozdormu creates the clone-spirit of the enemy hero. The clone appears where the enemy was 3 seconds ago and mimics all its movements for 3 seconds. A clone can not deal damage, but it can receive damage. The original hero receives 33% of the damage received by the clone. Clone is unstoppable.

Concepts i would like to see:

  • Damage limitation: allows only a certain amount of damage or percentage of max health in damage per instance or a timeframe. Would be a bridge between Protected/Invulnerable and Armor. This would be a blow to blow-up-comps/burst, while poke/sustain based comps would probably not care about it.
  • Spreading Damage or Heal: Set amount of damage or heal is equally spread among the targets. The damage variant would give multi-body-heroes an advantage for once.
  • Distance-increased damage/effect: damage or effect (stun/slow/root), is stronger the further away the targets stand from each other. This would get melee groups an edge over spread-out standing ranged/poke comps. For clarification: the distance between the targets is meant, not between source and target.

Damage over moving. The more you move/blink/whatever, the higher damage you get at the end of of the spell or over time.

Spell steal. Stealing enemies last cast spell or his Q/W/E/R spell.

What exactly do you mean by that? I was thinking about something like spell-deflection (throwing back an effect at the source and it´s allies) myself, but i can´t make out if that is what you mean or something else.

I once made the concept of a unit with W3 (spell breaker), selected abilities:

  1. Physical exile:
    The chosen hero (ally or foe) is partially exiled for 3 seconds. During this time, he can not use basic attacks and is completely immune to physical damage. At the same time, it gains 25% spell power, and loses 25 magic armor points.

  2. Mana flow
    It connects the selected enemy and selected ally with a visible link. Within 4 seconds, the chosen enemy will lose 20% of his current mana, and the selected ally will receive this value.
    The flow can be interrupted by increasing the distance between the heroes.

  • Missile barrier - like the one shown in the April’s fool HotS video. Whenever a skillshot touches it, it goes off, as if it has hit a hero. So it protects whoever is inside from skillshots (including homing missiles, like Pyroblast, or Tripple Tap).
  • Frenzy (status) - causing you to attack the nearest unit, no matter if it’s friend or foe.
  • Semi-homing skillshots - a skillshot, like Pyroblast, that slowly changes its direction towards the enemy it has chosen as a target, but it can still be dodged.

Let’s say you have a Q ability, which let you target an ally/enemy hero and you get their last cast basic ability for one use.
Once you use it, it will vanish.
Like, I cast the Q on Varian and get his charge, as he used it as last ability. Now I got charge on my Q until I use it, then it will vanish and I can copy another ability from another hero.
Talents could be like lowering your Q CD, keeping the ability for multiple uses, improving its potency, etc.

What I want to see:
A Hero that can reduce the next respawn time of an allied Hero (with long cooldown).
An 5 man Hero Terra-tron
A Core Hero.

What I want to see, but if they put it in the game the whole community will hate me:

A Heroic Ability that can rewind X seconds in the game.

  • An AA Healer. (because Ana apparently wasn’t the right Hero for that :roll_eyes:)
  • A cannon-rush Hero. (because I’m still disappointed about Probius)
  • A bomb-squad-style Hero that leaves mines everywhere. (Aba doesn’t count because there are no late game mine talents :frowning:)
  • A true Archon Heroic for most Protoss Heroes to choose (with an ally) in order to become a 2-player controlled “Cho’gall” Archon.
  • A Core-replacement Hero.
  • A Zergling/Swarm Hero.
  • An Evolution Hero that starts as a Larva and works his way up the food-chain.
  • Lightning Bond :sob:

A teemo hero.

I’d like Talandar, who could swap his combat suits at will, or some variation of the purifiers that can swap different bodies at will. Maybe something like TLV but in different variations of glass something. Or it could be a channeled change.

Or Swann/karax, who could build up sizable defenses when fully upgraded. A fully upgraded swann army is pretty hard to stop.

Maybe Horner being an aerial support hero, being able to call in airstrikes from anywhere on the map and support drops.

How about a stealthy that does nothing but silence people at range like sombra! Yea no.

I guess this would have to be introduced with a new hero but…

Possession. An ability to target any member of the enemy team and control them for 3 seconds, during this window the possessor has access to that characters ultimate. The possessed player is highlighted for both teams and is attackable by friendlies in order to counter (such as stuns, silences, etc). The character controlling possession would be rooted and the ultimate cancelled by hard CC. This would not reset the CD on the targeted players ultimate.

Manaburn won’t work. There are a ton of heroes whom already have meaningless mana bars due to ridiculous mana regen talents. Would amount to a small stun equivalent.

My favourite mechanic is Torbjorn Lindholme.

A vehicle, such as the Dragon Knight, or a D.VA robot. Yes, the hero who creates a vehicle to which he or any other ally can get. This skill could have Rory Swann (eg Goliath), he could also constantly repair this vehicle or strengthen his skills and statistics. Heroes could go in and out of it without any restrictions. Such a vehicle would provide shelter and increase injuries.
Like Blaze’s mobile bunker.

We have heroes that gain bonus speed on mount but wtf is that? We need a Hero that could fight from mount, dynasty warriors ftw.

Strengthen basic attacks in exchange for mana, eg 5 mana point / 1 attack.
Lady Vashj could have such a semi-passive ability.
