He has no CC outside of specific talent choices.
The biggest spotlight is his ability to make auto-attackers hit harder, and shield teammates. I’d argue he’s a melee support over a main tank.
So every tank must have a stun? Is this your logic? How about we just homogenize the tank roster while you’re at it!
Tyrael is the best tank at giving your team extra survivability, has very good mobility, underestimated damage, and can adapt to many situations.
So, he’s like a support then.
No i want that xp bonus while in clownfiesta.
See, supports do what you just said… give survivability, are heavily adaptable, and… again, support your team. Tanks role is to peel and take damage for your team while setting up plays for them.
I kind of see where the OP is going.
- No CC
- Barring some talents, no sustain
- Has specialist/support-style abilities/talents for shielding, buffing, walling…
He used to be informally considered a bruiser rather than a tank. I suppose you could make the argument for any of the following, really…
- bruiser
- specialist
- support
- tank
…and thus he can adapt to many situations.
Aaaand tyrael does that without CC.
Except he honestly doesn’t. he can’t lock anything down, he isn’t that great at peeling, or soaking damage like a traditional tank. he preforms more like say… a Zarya or Medivh than a Johanna.
I would say Zarya is a very good comparison for him. he definitely feels a lot like a Zarya in what he brings to the table.
Tyrael dies faster than any other tank in the game. he doesn’t really feel like a main tank because he dies so fast all he can provide to his team “small shield” > which tassadar can do better and movement speed “if his team walks at that thing he uses on the ground” and he got “slows” if he throw his sword at the enemy team unless he had to use it for “escape” then that’s another thing and his only stun is if he picks judgement so he has nothing to actually save his team beside the small shield or movement speed
he most likely “buff” his allies which means he’s more of a “support” rather than a “main tank”
All that said, he can be really fun.
(I know that’s not the topic at hand, just saying.)
meh… i would never choose him as a main tank and i will never consider him as a main tank i still remember my last SL game where our last pick was Tyrael and he went Judgement “we needed a main tank btw” he said he’ll fill he picks Tyrael goes Judgement and dies the most “welcome to master league” oh and the funniest part after we won “of course not thanks to him” he was acting like he won us the game
That would break clownfiesta mode so much like pick tlv and you get tyrael on the other side.
Easiest win ever provided tyrael know how to play.
The only support who could mirror what tyrael can possibly do is medivh and maybe 20 wall speced tass and then you have to add that he is a frontline hero with the mobility of a diver: reason why you can’t facetank too much things because picture giving zeratul the hitpoints of stiches.
As for draft mode who cares ? Tyrael is only one fifth of the draft so you 4 have the burden of making it work too.
For the record the top tank players from korea when they were playing picked tyrael any time because well the 5 guys had the mechanics to make it work.
Plus sanctification is the best aoe peel.
Ever wondered how more attractive he would be to play if they reduced his mana costs to be more in line with the heroes released in the last year?
that’s a great communication which you can hardly find nowadays.
i agree but that 100s Cooldown is meh also there’s rarely anyone that actually plays Tyrael nowadays there’s far better “tanks” to pick other than him
I play tyrael a lot. He is either a tank or a off tank.
New players would only be confused
Maybe because Tyreal is not a ordinary tank like all the others. He work well with divers and got sanc ult to protect his team even more or charge ult to engage with were his team follow up on.
Tyrael has a pretty big hp pool (not Diablo/Stitch big, but still nice), he has shield (for more tankyness).
His hitbox is reasonable in size so he can bodyblock.
He can peel with that bodyblock due to movespeed which also helps his allies to escape while he can shield them.
He can either have a strong engage or the strongest protection there is as his Heroic.
His trait and playstyle is supporting his role (he plays as you play Tanks).
Sure, he has Support characteristics, but the Heroes are not black’n’white that they can have features from more than one class.
Tyrael would be unfair against every other Support and he’s used as a Tank and is perfectly fine in QM where the game considers him as a Tank.
So I see no point here actually.
There was a time (when the roles got changed) when I doubted his role as well, but ppl (and also time) convinced me, that he’s perfectly fine there.
Well he isn’t an anchor tank. He doesn’t absorb front line damage. Sure he can buff allies with shields and movement speeds but that’s a very shallow way to look at him. He is mostly about disruption and can deal okay sustained damage if you talent properly. He is a dive tank, his main concern is diving backlines, not face tanking bullets.
Stiches have no cc either and he is also a tank. So what makes him. Maybe a new role we dont have yet
he can swallow you if you try to dive his team.
