Feels like opening 4chan. Constant racism (literally all the time it feels like), weird inappropriate comments (of a nature i don’t think i can discuss on the forums), never discussion about the actual game. Just bored people in their parents basement being intentionally offensive, talking about politics, expressing bigotry. Imagine coming to hots as a new player, you automatically join general chat, and that’s all you see.
I know you can leave it, that’s not the point. I don’t think we should just allow this to continue to fester.
Has been that way for 10 years. If they bothered to have even two unpaid community moderators across the entire game this would not be an issue.
Those people are allowed to run amok for weeks unchecked. Get banned, level up to 5 in AI, repeat.
There is a strong incentive to simply leave Gen chat permanently.
The state of Gen chat has always been one of those things which makes me wonder if the devs ever actually played the public experience, or if they just stayed within their own bubble.
I’m all for making it not something that new players automatically join. Another good option would be on the next update, have a pop-up that let’s you know you can leave general chat and give you the option to do it right there.
Funny boogeyman, this 4chan people talk about. Wish it was like people describe it.
Anyway, yea, probably ‘freedom’ isn’t within everyone’s comfort zone. Probably why there’s a profanity filter, among other things.
Also, I am surprised the forum mains didn’t just all band together to report these ‘4chan gen chatters’ into oblivion. Could get it deader than this forum in no time.
Just a hunch, but I’m pretty sure that historically when the word freedom is used, it means the ability to do what’s right without being punished, and people doing what’s wrong, not being allowed to do it by law. It’s only in the last few decades that the word freedom has shifted to mean no punishment for anything in the minds of some people.
You are entitled for your freedom, I am also entitled to call people what they are defending, if you want to defend den of outrage and obsessed people who spout violence in chat please be my guest.
I’m pretty sure that historically, speech was all about knowing your audience. You’d either get beaten up for something you say, ignored, or applauded. Only in the last decades there’s a demand for a ‘higher standard’ above popular vote, someone to dictate what is ok and what isn’t.
Coincidentally, the thing that happened in the last few decades is called ‘internet’.
I was writing about closing the gen chat (which decisively outlived unranked mode, so it deserves a cake). I wasn’t saying you should either agree with me or get punished, lol. Seems to be a common belief nowadays though, that you can only join a community if every member and especially its leader(s) all believe the exact same things.
Depends entirely on context, some people do it for the right causes, other used for justification of inciting violence against people.
There’s no specific which one is right, only human mortality plays into whether you think it’s right or wrong.
But to keep it simple, people usually shout it on a Vidya game channel when they get suspended over probably whatever they said that violated a private company EULA.
Better shut down the entirety of social media, discord, and the hots forum cause someone got freaky with their tassadar otp boyfriend and weird ethno-fetish tracer “““fan art”””
Or we could not restrict and control social spaces.
I do not need you to agree with me, you are free to call me stupid, I won’t budge.
I do not even report people here it’s mostly for spam threads.
My issue with what a decade ago internet Vs today is that it has become increasingly hostile and outrage pilled that we are seeing people prefering touching grass than opening a social media.
General Chat is just an example of a space invaded heavily by really bad people that it has resulted in losing its purpose, something that happens to many different spaces.
More pointing out that everyone that frequents this forum heavily benefits from a “free unrestricted space.” You’ve made ““friends”” here, no? And that demanding the removal of general is a gross double-standard thats incredibly typical of people that want “triggering” social spaces to be fully removed.
I’m all for not having people join the channel by default, but again, if we have to remove that social channel “to force people to be better” there are so many other spaces we ought to remove for the same reason!
Then again, wouldn’t expect you or anyone of your avid followers to understand my words.
If you opened up 4chan, you’d know it’s separated into topics, and in most of them you can’t post whatever crosses your mind… like in gen chat. Just a few select ones work like that. But again, that would require opening 4 chan instead of reading what others say about it…
Sounds like an unironic W(in), but mostly an accidental one.
I wodner when the boogeyman of “yeah well your just an alt of wild rage/vent/whoever” is going to show up because I happen to agree with WildRage on this one.
