Salt Mountain: Insert bad game stories here

I wouldn’t mind a preference towards more strict comps.
I play all roles actually, and would appreciate the rest of them when doing so.

My main gripes with non-meta comps are:

  • Having 4-5 damage dealers means more pressure to the healing / tanking role.
  • Some heroes cope way better with it than others. Sustain, avoidance, range.
  • Same about roles - facing 4 summoners, siegers is just awful.

The main issue is that is an almost endless rabbit hole. Personally, I think the comp balance is decent enough, that I get very few “unplayable” QMs, even when I am in a duo or solo queue. The rules at the moment do their best to include and mirror things like tanks and healers, or bruisers and supports if tanks and healers aren’t available. I do get irked when I find myself in a match with two other tanks on my team, when I know there are matches out there that would desperately love just one of us.

So to address your main point, where is the outer limit for “stricter” comps? Do we have to mirror siege, waveclear (not the same thing), CC, cleanses, self-sustain, AA/ability damage, burst/sustain damage, burst/sustain healing, and damage reduction options (both for AA and spell) in every match? That could make for some seriously long queue times!

I know it is trite and not always helpful, but ranked really is an option for people who care more about balance than anything. Granted, ranked play presents its own set of issues, but short of a massive overhaul (which I can’t see happening), compromises have to be made.

I miss unranked draft. :frowning:

I just think that a tank and healer would be ideally present.
My main point revolved around having roughly 3 dd worth of throughput across the teams. 4 dd without a healer is basically canceling the tank, eating abnormal damage and then having to back. (Unless the tank has certain tricks to avoid or even benefit from it. For example, Diablo is a suicidal mess, while Anub is arguably the same.)

The reason I don’t like draft is because it’s … slavery. Imagine that you’d have to play Nazeebo and Zagara for the rest of your life in SL. How long would you keep up? (The only way to explain it to tank-bruiser mains :))

Personally, one of the reasons I play QM is to get away from meta picks and comps. Main tank Li Li? I am down! No healer while I am Li-Ming? Time to ignore the Orb talents and go full Dominance/Calamity!

I mean, technically I would do that anyway. Orbs are boring.

Or pretty much every game with Abathur that doesn’t have healers. He isn’t that strong on a two lane map and on some bigger maps the amount of healing he provides is just crazy.

Also very tired of seeing him go up against Zarya or Medivh for 2 out of each 3 games.

So you want less balancing of roles? That is essentially what would be required to make that happen.

I would get this upset because the replay feature is so trash…Problem was that when it was black, it actually wasn’t the game. It was just how upset I was that I saw black. Not really, but it really needs to be said.

That’s what we could have the minimum safety net of a guarantee healer for. Tank role reduces the burst and creates room for more player mistakes.

If it would lead to imbalanced comps such as 3 ranged vs 3 melee it still couldn’t be any worse than what we have now. It is not the same game anymore where ranged characters would dominate the laning phase and good balance between the two has been achieved with the changes to globe mechanics.

Now you say but melees usually have better sustain and I will tell you how you can always avoid them until the situation becomes a team fight, because that is essentially what I am already forced to do playing less impactful heroes such as Tracer. When there’s no healer around and I am playing against Abathur - god help me because just being around minions results with instant loss of 1/4 HP and approaching any auto attacker alone always backfires in addition to Abathur canceling out all the damage from your bullets.

But enemy melee has too much healer argument again. Isn’t this a great opportunity to deviate from the boring meta and pick a healing reduction talent for once?

The biggest problem right now is not the imbalance between classes but that the game feels VERY STALE and that is primarily due to mirroring of roles. It is obvious how disproportionally more popular ranged heroes are so instead of pure melee or pure ranged games there would also be a more healthy distribution of the roles for each individual match.

Is it not a little disappointing how you’ll never see Abathur, Zarya and Medivh on the same team unless they manually pick so. What would be so wrong about occasionally seeing 4 healers in the same match?

Lol, yep, Tornados deal damage.

I had problems about a week ago with my ISP. Got disconnect from 2 games and got a leaver que 1 win…np right? Did the right thing and just waited till it was repaird properly and came back a week later to play my game 28 games deep as of now zero even close wins. While every match was at least a competitive extrange before.

Took some time off. Came back, just got plopped into a team (as Li-Ming) with Lunara, Cho’Gall, and Butcher.

Lunara spent the game feeding for funsies, which was the least of our problems. Butch fed and spent the match flaming Cho’Gall for not carrying him, and Cho’Gall fed Valla as well as flaming Butch in return.

It was like a fever dream. So strange I’ll even include the replay: Match Details | 52242408 | Heroes Profile

I love matchmaking.

Short version.
Not going well. All stats in the fail range. And I keep climbing.
Getting matches with massively favored opponents. About 90-10 win chance.
Definitely awkward. Also a bit sad.

I deserved to win. But my team said no.

I’m not a huge fan of getting into all Elite A.I matches with teammates that have no self-preservation. Just as I am not a huge fan of playing casual matches with Adept/Recruit/Beginner with someone pulling a “you are not doing your role right” in a match with people who just started playing. Had both of those today.

One time back when I played Nova a lot someone literally got mad that I drafted Nova… in QM.

Unrelated, but I came to this thread to post that I think the boosts are a scam. The timer should stop counting down when you go offline.

I’ve told this story in my B-Tag thread, but I encountered a player called “NoMoreNovas”, when I questioned them about their tag, they said Nova “ruins” QM and Hots, and should be deleted from the game!

I’ve encountered a few other players who also echoed this anti-Nova sentiment, it’s the “Nazeebo” effect. These heroes are such popular picks in QM, I think seeing them in every second match, contributes to some of that negative perception.
