Random stuttering recently

Title, my PC is more than enough to run HotS at maximum, but since a few patches ago, it’s been randomly stuttering in-game and nothing in the background is using significant resources.

Attached is my traceroute.

As you can see, on line 9, my ping suddenly spikes up to almost 4k.

Hey, Jikosei! Thanks for including a traceroute test! Hop 9 appears to be due to deprioritization of ICMP packets, but there’s clear signs of packet loss that’s happening earlier in the test like Hop 6.

Could you run a WinMTR test while in a practice match for 10-15 minutes? This should help check for packet loss and more accurate details of the latency within the test.

Hey Jikosei,

While there is a big spike happening on one line, this shouldn’t affect the connection as it doesn’t show up on the subsequent lines. This spike is likely just throttling direct pings to that server for DDoS protection.

Based on what you described you may want to try connecting directly to the modem with an ethernet cable temporarily to see if there’s any difference. I’d also suggest going through the rest of the steps here.

My PC is already directly connected via Ethernet, and the rest of the steps are already completed; my FPS is fine, it’s random stuttering that’s affecting me.

I’m having the same issues. In fact, I just completed a game and won, had the in-game announcer declare victory; then encountered a lag spike, followed by the message “game is no longer available” and now I’m being punished with a loss, and a 2 game penalty. What kind of a system is this… I win the game, and now I’m getting penalized with a loss and a leaver penalty status. What’s more upsetting is the rating I’m going to lose because of this nonsensical system. I’d attach my demo if I knew how.

Hey, Jikosei! Thanks for the WinMTR test, I am seeing that the routing changed a bit from the traceroute test. Were you experiencing any stuttering while the WinMTR test was running? Could we try running another one with stuttering to compare?

As far as I saw, there was still some stuttering, albeit not as much, I’m guessing because it might’ve been a practice game as you suggested, would an actual game suffice this time?

Thanks, Jikosei! It’s not ideal, but since it wasn’t happening as often in a practice game, let’s see if a normal game match may give us results that show some of the packet loss shown in the traceroute test.

I’m having the same problem, and it’s only with HOTS. I can play literally any other game on or offline with 0 issues. My problems also started about 4 patches ago.
