I love playing Medivh. I play quick match. Cue the don’t play quickmatch comments.
My Med is level 35. I’ve played him a lot. I Love his kit.
His current standing is absolutely horrific. Its never been great, but lately it is the absolute worst I’ve seen it.
Over my last 14 games (In a row mind you) over 2 days, I have won 1 of those games. 13 consecutive losses.
How is that fun? How is that going to keep me interested as a player?
I don’t want to play another character. I don’t want to que unranked and go the draft process. If anything it turns me off of the game entirely because the hero I like seems completely unable to win.
I have a 17% winrate with him this season out of 28 games. My favorite hero Ive played this season I’ve won 17% of the time. That is not fun.
I am not a grandmaster player. But I’m not bottom of the barrel bronze either.
Since there is no other forum to proved feedback this is the venue I’m taking. Say what you want as other players I really don’t care. This is not for you. This is feedback about the trash matchmaking I’m grouped into making unwinnable games. I don’t need to win 70 or 60% of the time. But I think 17% is unreasonable.
I get tweaking his kit poses problems with higher levels of play, but something needs to be done in the regard to what he is paired with and against as far as matchmaking.
Putting me on all ranged assassin teams with no tank or support, vs a 5 man off butcher/varian/tass/abathur and whoever else is getting extremely old.
Lets see how many more losses before I finally uninstall.
If you don’t like your comp altf4 before the loading screen that’s the only thing i can advise.
Gotta admit the old forced QM comps was pretty nice for playing medivh
Medivh’s power scales with the skill of his teammates. I am also a level 35 Medivh and I constantly have to adjust when i play him in Quickmatch. However I still have a good amount of success when i play him in solo queue quickmatch (I am at 66% WR this season).
If you are 17% this season there are probably a lot of things you could learn right away that will really help you to win some games. There was a recent thread that had some Medivh tips which I would recommend checking it out, below.
My quick and dirty advise would be:
Finish master’s touch asap. Don’t worry about anything else before then.
Once you finish your quest, try to mainly use your support abilities on your allies. The more you help your team, the more you enable them and the more they will trust you. And the more you will win.
Don’t pick Arcane explosion and Circle of protection unless you feel your team has good coordination. You will get much more value out of Mystic assault and Enduring will.
Pick Poly bomb only if there is a dangerous diver that must be shut down (Tracer, Genji, Valeera). Otherwise, you will want Leyline as it’s the higher impact heroic. Learn to use it well.
And regarding your priorities during the game, they should be:
Provide vision for your team - under bushes, detect stealthed heroes (w/ dust of appearance), and monitor overall enemy team movements.
Deal constant damage with Arcane rift whenever it is safe to do so.
Shield your teammates from dangerous, predictable abilities (Pyroblast, Triple Tap, Pulse bomb, KtZ combo, etc).
Use your portals for both escape and engage.
Use your heroic to nullify a dangerous enemy (Poly bomb), or to help your team setup a wombo or help your team retreat (Leyline).
I’m level 35 with him like I said, just like you. I also adjust my picks based on my team vs enemy and map (as I do with any hero).
There are games I could have played better.
There are games I played amazing.
I never have a problem finishing quest and rarely exceed 3 deaths (if any) in 25 minute games.
I have a very good grip on how to play the hero and how to play around others. You dont suffer through 35 levels of Medivh without picking some things up.
To be clear my winrate this season with MEDIVH is currently 17%.
My overwall quickmatch winrate is floating in the high 50’s low 60’s after about 60 games played. This is before I started my 2 day Medivh kick.
In short in this instance, fundamentally something is wrong with what I’ve been paired with and against. Not solely play, which for sure I’m not saying I should have won 100% of the games.
Like anything there are highs and lows. This is a low. Low, low.
I might go on a 10 game tear. In the meantime, I’m very reasonably frustrated.
It seems Blizzard has gone out of their way to discourage any type of feedback without making the player voice it in a public forum.
I’ve had no problems playing Medivh in Quick Match, and I am a pretty mediocre Medivh. Granted, the randomness of teamates kinda compels you to play him kinda like a… ranged samuro or something? Basically, you can just play around being a bit of a solo mage, and if you plan for that he’s still pretty solid.
Also, you can get pretty good value out of arcane explosion even if you are mostly self shielding.
Just keep playing man. Sometimes you get in a slump and try to focus too much on one aspect of your play, it happens sometimes with me and the Bladumaster when I try to focus on microing my body too much or backdooring too much etcetc. Just something isn’t in flow, try taking some time off, or watching some videos.
My #1 recommendation is listen to some music, find some stuff you really like, and then turn up the really good stuff and just go ham. Like I mean dance. Shut your bedroom door, volume +++++, and then just _//^\V/^|_/O around the room, go where your body and soul tell you to go and move how they tell you to move. Just for a couple of minutes. You will feel better afterwards, and may find yourself refreshed for your task ahead of playing more medivh. Or you may desire to reflect on what you want your tasks to be. Whatever it is, it’s good. GL
Well, looking at your last few Medivh games on hotslogs, you are doing almost zero hero damage (around 10k most games), not soaking any exp, have no takedowns and not really shielding anyone (almost every game is 10k shielding or close to it).
Anyone can grind a hero to level 35 but getting a positive winrate requires being proficient at playing that hero.
Medivh can be a great character to help you get better at the game in general. After playing him you really appreciate how important vision can be, if only to fly around the enemy butcher or stealthy so they don’t feel comfortable ganking.
One of the most important things though, is the ability to assess your enemies. Make a mental note of the burst abilities you’re going to want to shield and wait for these and be aware of their cooldowns. As I said earlier, this can really help with your gameplay in general once you start doing it with other characters too.
It’s games fault that you suck at hero of your choosing? Medivh wasn’t made to be generalist pick and he wasn’t intended for low to mid tier players. Git Gud!
Playing QM? Aba is paired against Medivh pretty often and he’s a bit too strong right now and safer, easier than Medivh. So that’s one thing.
Also, Medivh is hard to play. Really hard. I won’t jump into conclusions, but this is concerning:
Medivh is totally fine, don’t need any kind of buffs or powershifts. He should never be made more accessible to lower skill lvls. He’s a challenge, a goal what ppl can aim for.
You blame QM? It was better but with the cost of increased queue times so the community asked for the removal of the forced roles in comps. So if you want a tank and a healer for yourself, you should play more serious modes. But you don’t want to because… I guess it’s easier to ask for good comp be put under your lowerside than to actually draft it.
If you don’t want to change modes or play other Heroes, I can only suggest to watch your replays to learn and improve because if you have this much trouble with Medivh you are worse with him than you thought and willing to admit.
Lol. He’s like Tassadar - people don’t like such heroes.
But I must say - Medivh is more welcomed. But still - most players won’t allow to play him. Especially low skill one.
I feel you op
As someone who plays quickmacth a lot the game just go crazy when you pick Medivh. It seems to pair you with the ultimate garbage players and ALWAYS has Valeera, Tracer, Genji, Zeratul and Nova or a combination of then in the other side
I know its anecdotical but at least for me it’s staggering how bad the teams become when I pick him (last time I got a Jaina that used ring of frost to try to clear a wave that was not that big nor was attacking our keep and no there wasn’t any hero nearby)
Yea because Blizzard Livestreams all game data 100% of the time directly to hotslogs right ?
Using those numbers as fact is like quoting the onion articles like gospel .
Those are in no way accurate , thanks though.
Some people seem to be struggling what the point of this thread was.
I didn’t say he needs a reworked kit, but his matchmaking could be better.
Like mentioned by others getting grouped against heroes like abathur 60 to 70 percent of the time sucks.
Unless you have a team that is actually going to use your portals, and divers who will make use of your total immunity shield etc, you’re not going to have a fun time. Medivh relies on team mates that will utilise your kit… rando’s in QM most of the time, won’t.
