[Main thread] Apple M1 Macs - Unable to see ground effect indicators

Its probably just a graphics bug. I have it too on m1 mac mini.

Same problem I’m seeing as well on my M1Mac Mini

Same problem on Macbook Pro 13" with the M1 processor.

I am not sure if this is an M1 problem or a Mac problem with Big Sur.

But I cannot see any ground effects or ability projections.

Cannot see apocalypse, boss slams, ability projections like Hanzo arrows, Ming orbs, anything of the sort. Everything else works fine.

It’s so disappointing because Hots runs surprisingly well through Rosetta 2. Until you get on BoE and can’t see where the immortal stuns are coming from and look like an idiot to all your teammates getting stunned every race lol.

Same here. M1 MacBook Pro with 16 gigs of ram and I look like an idiot sitting in bombs.

I was playing LiLi and I think I know what it is. With her jug special the ground effect was only visible outside of the bounds of level near the edges. I think it’s just not layering properly above the surface. Should be a simple coding fix in a future patch.

I can’t get the game to launch on my M1 MacBook Air. Any advice?

I see the same problem on my M1 Mac Mini, where ability boundaries are not seen. For example, for Jaina’s Blizzard or Gazlowe’s Explodium Charge there is no circle on the ground showing the boundaries of where the abilities will hit. I think this issue might also prevent Sprays from being seen.

I tried to test all the individual graphics settings and combinations of Low, Medium, High, etc. that I could. However, I was not able to find any setting that fixed this issue.

I upgraded to the M1 Mac Mini and to Big Sur at the same time, so I am not certain. However, this problem seems to be reported by M1 owners only, so it seems like it might be an Apple/M1 GPU-related issue rather than a Big Sur issue.

Mac mini (M1, 2020)
macOS 11.0.1 (Big Sur)
Metal Family: Supported, Metal GPUFamily Apple 7

I want to add that the markers do actually show up but show under the map terrain. I suppose the layers were switched. I found this out by shooting things over a hole. The indicators show up normally but once on map terrain, it is hidden under it.

MacBook Air M1 16gb here, can confirm this issue is happening to me as well. It’s very silly because otherwise the game runs without issues at all even at higher resolutions.

Without issues at all? Why I experienced stuttering once in a while? also other people also have this issue. It’s unplayable as a MMOBA game.

If you have an 8GB RAM model, that might be an issue. HoTS seems to have a memory leak that stresses 8GB RAM after an hour or two of play in my experience. This is coupled with the fact the “unified memory” is apparently shared between CPU and GPU, so some of the RAM is being used by the GPU.

I’m guessing there’s stuff being switched between swap and RAM all the time.

I remember I also had stuttering issues on the 8GB model, but I don’t have stuttering issues on the 16GB RAM model.
