Latency/lag spikes while playing

Huge lag spike every 5-10 secs while playing since March 18th. No new content in months…

Why do I even bother opening this joke of a game?

Yeah, I’m getting them too. My whole group in TL got them just now. It’s been happening for a couple days now.

Did they sell their server souls to netease?

Guys,

Server performance is (mostly) not controlled by Blizzard.

Heroes of the Storm is a Peer to Peer game. It’s not a Server/Client game like DOTA2 or LoL is. As a matter of fact, ALL Blizzard games are (mostly) Peer to Peer (yes, this includes WoW).

When the game is formed, Blizzard’s servers set two players as the Peer Servers and a third as the backup. How the players are chosen works kind of like MMR to try to “balance” how often someone is chosen.

As such, the game’s performance is only as good as the connections of the player’s is as well as their computers if they are host. Of course, YOUR personal connection to the client server is a factor too.

Sadly there is absolutely no way to opt out if you know outright your system/connection is capable of hosting. The Blizzard Gods in the virtual cloud make that decision for you.

That being said, Glasswire is a good tool that can give you a good beat if you’re hosting, but sadly it won’t give you any telemetry on who the host is or if they are capable of hosting. You can only know that info if you share some critical information with your team mates before the game starts, such as your IP.

You can blame the design of this system (which we all should) or Blizzard’s server pick process; but there’s no Blizzard sever that is to blame for these issues.

think its only peer to peer when in raids or BGs correct?

Is this documented anywhere? It’s hard to believe, seeing as some people play on very weak connections, and were they to host the game, every single player could disconnect if that player’s own connection fails.

Welcome to the HOTS forums, i hope you enjoy the forums and the people on it,.

Have a wonderful time

I hope they fix this issue by next patch. Ridiculous lag makes me play R6 when I want to play Hots.

would things like the 2.0 launch nonsense (e.g. those matches where half or all the players would get disconnected at once) suggest that there can be issues on blizzard’s side? or is that still a hosting issue?

genuine question, i know almost nothing about servers or P2P

Huge lag spike can’t even play

Howdy!

Lighthammer information is sadly not correct. Heroes of the Storm does not utilize P2P to host matches. Nor does World of Warcraft.

I would first recommend troubleshooting the connection as different issues can cause this problem to occur:

  1. Power Cycle the home network’s modem and router by following the steps Here.
  • Once the network is back online flush your DNS cache using the commands Here.
  1. If you are using a wireless connection to play, try switching to wired connection following the steps Here.

Retest.

If the issue continues please provide the following data: When in a match with high latency press (Ctrl + Alt + F) to see what server you are connected too. Then run a WinMTR to the server to allow us to see the route between the PC and server. Run the test for the whole match or just 10 minutes.

Then paste the results back here for review!

Thank you.

Hi,
I got, the same problem. Sometimes every few seconds, sometimes less frequently, but still. It makes HoTS unplayable for me.
Nothing of what you suggested has worked. I also tried switching wi-fi channel between 2,4GHz and 5GHz frequency.
I can’t use a cable as I don’t have enough space in my PC for a network card, the second thing is that I simply don’t want to ;]
I use TP Link archer t4U. I’ve been using it for half a year now. This problem occured last week and it’s happening during every game ever since.

I played vs AI about 7 minutes.

Here are results of WinMTR for both European Servers:

Looking forward to your reply.

After the patch today. my ping went to 180ms on Western US Server. I usually get 20ms. I don’t know what’s wrong :frowning:
