Lag and internet issues while running HotS

I cant explain it. I have NEVER EVER seen this issue in my life while running games/applications.

My internet can run 2 streams 1080p with out problem on twitch. But for some reason, when I open hots and start a game, my whole internet becomes garbage! I cant even run in the background a stream of 160p! Hots is also affected because of it.

I know you are confused, and I am as well confused as someone who has idea how the IT hardware works. HotS goes non-stop lagging on 200ms, 500ms, 2000ms. It feels random. And the funny part is - some games can be played normally, while other games just non-stop lag! The game can go to 100fps on 1280x720 fullscreen, if I disable the Vsync. I guess its not my PC hardware lagging? I assume hots does some weird settings on Windows 7?

Let me be clear - this issue does NOT happen when running LoL!

I started to think that my internet was the issue. I am connected directly with a cable. I restarted the router. I also manually pull the plug from the router to ensure full reset. Still did not work!

After the game was over, I started testing my connection in the speedtest(dot)net website - works all good! Local connection in bulgaria to our capital - 72Mbps download, 46Mbps upload, and 4ms. Multiple connection tests in paris on different servers - 10-60Mbps download, 8-10Mbps upload, and 40ms (different results on each server). I highly doubt the game has this kind of huge demands of internet connection. My internet seem to work more than fine!

This issue started since your lates patch 52.2

I am all out of options, or ideas of how to fix this issue! I have been playing this game fine since April 2015 on 30-40ms with out any problems!

because they are running it on cheap servers obviously…

It should not be their servers. The game is doing something to my PC. I am confused personally!

Hey there Dumas,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out with those details! Based on the symptoms you’ve described, it sounds like there’s an issue with how your home network traffic is being prioritized. Can you temporarily test an alternate network such as a mobile hotspot or VPN? This will help us quickly determine whether the issues are network-related.

If the issue is resolved when using an alternate network, at that point we can be sure that the issue is isolated to the primary network. In these situations, ultimately we can only recommend contacting the Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance determining what is causing the issue to occur on that specific network. They might need to adjust network-level security/firewall settings on your modem or temporarily replace the device to narrow it down further. I always recommend requesting to be forwarded to a “level 2 or level 3 technician” when contacting the ISP since the front-line representatives typically only have access to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions going forward.

I will give this more time and testing to see if this problem still happens, before I make any big decisions.

I run streams non-stop - no lags. I run 5 games in HotS - last game turned the whole Broadband Fiber internet into 90s telecommunication 64kbits. Something is not right. And this is not the first time to happen!

Dumas,

We can dig into this a little more with you, but you’d need to test the things we’re recommending. Overall there aren’t a lot of reports of this, so we’d need to find out why this is happening. It’s possible there’s an error with the internet between your house and our HotS servers specifically.

If you’re still having this problem, please create a WinMTR test which catches a disconnection. You want to restart the test every 10-15 minutes until you catch one of these problems. Once you’ve caught one red handed, run the test for about 5 more minutes. This will let us look for problems between your house and our servers which may cause this.

If you have problems with posting it due to a link error, go ahead and copy paste this into your next post, and replace “WinMTR goes here” with your test.

How to check hero of the storm ping from cmd.

they are using p2p a decade old network google it for more info , thats why every game has a person leaving

I am no expert in networking. I barely synchronize 2 people to connect each others in my own games.

Do you know if it is possible for players to DDOS each others with this p2p connection? This is one of the things which came to my mind when I was lagging while HotS was running. According to google - this connection type is terrible.

I have not played the game to test if I still lag in it. I have a PTSD from the multiple incidents in HotS. My internet was running perfectly fine so far.

Howdy Dumas,

The p2p stuff hasn’t been used in a very long time and was only for patching. Your IP address is not visible to other players so it would not be possible for someone to DDoS you or anyone else specifically. Our networking servers also have DDoS mitigations in place, so if someone was trying to DDoS it would require DDoSing the ISP servers that lead to our servers, which would affect many people.

Keep in mind that there are many settings that can impact our games and cause disconnects or lag while not affecting anything else that uses the internet. Also, each application and game goes to different servers in different locations so takes different routes to reach those places. Something that is causing a disconnect on one route would not cause a problem on a different route. Imagine it as a series of interconnected roads and highways. You may experience traffic going north but have no problems going south. This is why we ask for a WinMTR test, so we can get specific details about what is happening on the actual route your connection is taking to our servers.

Thanks for the answer. I got the WinMTR thing running and learned how to use it a week ago. The only problem I face is - there are 2 servers on EU. Which server on EU am I supposed to use? Should I be running 2 instances of the WinMTR thing?

Either one is fine, there won’t be a massive difference in the latency for the test.

@Dum as Considering your name, its end to end, You run between 8 or so hops before you reach blizzard, just because you pay someone to make the first hop to the first connection does’t mean your second hop will be as nice, search for a better isp.

Do you even read anything I said? My internet have NEVER gone down outside of HotS. Are you mentally well?

Could have been coincidence with hots being targeted by my ISP and making me lag 3 times in a roll. Who knows?! Thats what we are trying to find out! I usually play this game 1-2 times a week this days. I used to play it very frequently back in the days. Had no issues with it. In fact - I had more connection issues back in the day with Riot Games’ servers. Now its the reverse!

But I am way too annoyed by this game to bother testing it anyway for the next 1-4 months. And the last thing I need is someone pretending to be a PC specialist, and saying stupid stuff.

Spoiler alert - my internet didnt lag so far when I didnt touch hots for over 1 week.

i have a 400 mbps connection and i still lag hard every time i start a game its because they have used the cheapest option available i really dont know the specifics but its not your internet.
no idea how these deluded people thought they would compete with other mobas.
also the bans are a joke half the player base is gone because of it

400 ping on 400 mbps connection only possible in hots
