I really miss server prefs

Please, Blizzard, for the love of God, let us choose our preferred server region again.

I don’t care if I have to wait 5 minutes for a game every time I queue, I just don’t want to play on the central server anymore.

I am in Utah, and even though I am closer to central than a lot of the other western states, the central server ALWAYS has a .25 or .5 second delay the entire match.

You get used to it after a while, but you’re never okay with it. It feels like 80% of games are on central, so when you do finally snag that western server game, you can REALLY feel it and notice it. It feels amazing and fluid. Then it’s right back to 8 straight games of central sludge.

I understand the player base isn’t what it was, but personally, I would rather wait in a longer queue for a better quality match.

Your best bet is to queue with others from the same region. They won’t change how the US servers work now (central and west), since they did that because of queue times.

Come to Europe, we have only 1 server, so you won’t have a problem of choosing or being put on the wrong server :P.

If those are real numbers (250-500 ping? really?), then you can even maybe expect less delay while playing on EU.

I live in Nevada, not terribly far from where the OP lives, and I can guarantee the ping will be worse for them on EU. I regularly experience pings of 300-400 ms on EU. Ideally they would allow stepped server selection, where you could indicate a preference, and if a match wasn’t found in, say, 60 seconds, it would then go to a pooled queue.

Well either way, anything over 200 ms is quite literally unplayable. I have about 120 ms to NA central and that’s about the limit i can stomach (150 ms on NA west is not really playable anymore).
I will not believe that it is possible to have over 150 ping to NA servers from NA itself (eastern EU to NA west is pretty much as far as you can get between EU and NA and that’s still only 150-180 ping) - there has to be some serious routing problems then and VPN could be a solution.

P.S. 250-500 ms delay judged by “feel” has to be an exaggeration. Actual ping values from netgraph would be more useful. If it really gets that high, I would definitely run a tracert and see what the hell is going on there.

Does USC server even exist? Ping to 24.105.62.129 times out.
Ping to 24.105.30.129 (USW) goes through normally.
Maybe there’s no selection, because there’s simply no USC server at all anymore? Or did the address just change for it?

P.S. I personally hadn’t logged in to NA in over a year, so I wouldn’t even know the UI changes.

I am at work, it is 7:45 am here, but I can get screen captures of the ping to various servers later when I am home and playing. Some of it may be local internet service, I live out in the desert, so high-speed internet is not available and I know Utah has a lot of rural communities, some of it may be routing, and there are other elements, such as their service provider, that could be in play. Depending on what the underlying issue is, using a VPN will likely not resolve the ping issues.

Just played 1 game for testing and i was put on “Central” server but I got 110 ping on it. So it’s clearly not the same central as it was (well it’s definitely better for me - apparently it’s closer to EU / east coast). I used to get similar ping to the USE server back in the old days before they removed it.

unfortunately , after all the problems blizzard has gone through plus the covid pandemic , it is hard to have more servers .

My ping actually rarely, if ever, goes over 60-70ms. It’s hard to explain exactly what it feels like when you’re on the central server. It’s not quite the same as lag, it just doesn’t feel snappy. The delays are very brief, maybe even a quarter of a second is going too far, but it’s enough that I can notice right away it’s a central game without even having the info showing at the top of the screen. It’s enough of a difference that you can absolutely feel it in your movement and skill-shots.

The western server feels sooooo crisp compared to central for me, it’s crazy.

I just tested on EU, and my ping ranged from 190 ms to a weird spike of 423 ms. Like I said, there could be any number of reasons for this, but that is what I typically see when I log on over there.

Don’t you have some spikes and internet problems even on NA?
I remember you disconnecting when we played a couple times :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to, but have gotten a more reliable, although not much faster, ISP. And the disconnections were because you hauled us onto LATAM. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not my fault :frowning:

Every now and then I swear I’m in a game with a weird latency issue. Ping reports fine, no dropped packets, but sometimes it seems like I am on a delay. I didn’t look into the issue since it’s so infrequent, but may be related?

I ping about 90-100ms playing on EU from US Central.
