Run the support recommended ping/winmtr tests against the HotS servers.

Google uses different servers from Blizzard so pinging them might help detect local network issues but will not detect network issues between you and the BattleNet HotS servers.

Hey Protoss,

I’d agree with DrSuperGood here. Try running a WinMTR test and post those results so we can look for any latency spikes or packet loss, which can cause freezing in HOTS.

  1. Download WinMTR
  2. Right-click on the downloaded .zip folder and select “Extract All”, to extract the files to a new folder.
  3. Open the new WinMTR-v092 folder that was created, then open the WinMTR_x64 folder.
  4. Right-click on the WinMTR application and select “Run as administrator”.
  5. Type the server IP 185.60.112.157 in the “Host” field. Click “Start” to begin the test.
  6. Launch the game and join a match. Allow the test to run for the full duration of the match, then click on “Stop” when you’re done playing.
  7. Click on “Copy Text to Clipboard”, paste the results here, then highlight everything and hit the </> button in the posting section so it will allow links.

Sorry it took soo long

I’m seeing some high latency spikes starting on the 2nd “hop” which would be your internet provider’s network. Other than this the test looks fine, so it’s unclear if the latency spikes here are the actual cause but we know that delayed packets can cause freezes like you describe.

You might want to try temporarily connecting with a mobile data hotspot if possible, or connect through a VPN to try testing the game through a different connection. That would help narrow down if it was an issue with the normal ISP or not.

In some cases freezes can also be caused by graphics card issues or driver issues. You could try using Display Driver Uninstaller to wipe the drives and then reinstall them to see if that helps.

  1. Download DDU here
    • Click on the first link under “Announcements” titled Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Then click the “Official Download Here” link to start the download.
  2. Run the .exe file and extract the contents to the default location. Open the new folder and run the Display Driver Uninstaller.
  3. You will get a pop-up saying it is recommended to reboot in Safe Mode, feel free to ignore this if you are not familiar with how to get into Safe Mode. To start the removal process, click on the driver type on the right side first, then click “Clean and restart”
  4. Once the PC restarts, go ahead and download the current drivers here: Geforce Driver Results | NVIDIA
  5. Run the driver installer and use the default/recommended install steps.
