[HC] Okara, the Deadfiend

Okara is a stray fiend crafted from the broken wishes of Nexus denizens given form through the Raven Court’s prevalence of Dead Magic. Similar to Orphea’s beast, Okara is nothing but the hatred and hopelessness of the Raven Court’s subjugated masses taken form. She embodies all of the diverse emotions of the denizens of the Raven Court’s subjects and servants, given form through the lingering ancestral power of the Nexus. In the Nexus, she would look very similar in material to Orphea’s monster, with a very tar-like form that takes on the appearance of a muscular feminine form. She would have a rugged servants uniform on her form that would disappear when she uses her Shell of Sin, and her face would be a worm-like maw of teeth, much in the same way as Orphea’s monster. Her personality would be frantic and scattered, but in every emotional spectrum, she would be subservient and helpful, reflecting the servant nature of those who fell to Oberon (the Raven Lord)’s madness.

In HotS, Okara is a viscous support that has a perfectly malleable form. Okara fulfills a similar role to Abathur in that she merges with an allied Hero. However, instead of the global, subtle benefits Abathur grants, Okara is an aggressive frontline duelist that can transform any ally into a frontline menace, sacrificing her own health to protect her host.

Explanation: There is no need for a special mount.

Shell of Sin
Trait (10 sec Cooldown)
(Passive) Okara does not use mana.
(Active) Okara surrounds an allied Hero with her form, becoming untargetable and moving alongside the ally. While surrounding the allied Hero, she can still cast abilities and basic attack, and Okara will take the first 15 (+4% per level) damage the allied hero takes from every attack. In addition, 10% of the damage Okara’s attached ally takes is dealt to Okara, and if they are stunned, taunted, or feared, Okara will be dislodged and take the stun, taunt, or fear effect in place of the attached ally Hero.

Explanation: Shell of Sin is the core of Okara’s ability kit. It allows her to attach to allies and sacrifice her own health to mitigate a portion of damage from every attack that hits her allied Hero. This is particularly potent against damage over time effects and enemies that attack many times in quick succession, like Tracer, as these effects will effectively transfer entirely to Okara, instead of her attached allied hero.

Doubt Artillery
Q (6 sec Recharge) - 50 Health
Okara selects a target 3 unit radius location within 9 units and fires a globule of herself to the location after 1.25 seconds which travels swiftly to the area and explodes on impact, slowing enemies hit by 40% for 1 second and dealing 100 (+4% per level) damage. This can store up to 3 charges.

Explanation: Doubt Artillery gives Okara some long range utility and damage to help her and her team in poke battles or when she cannot immediately be next to enemies due to being attached to her allied Hero. In addition, this can help allies catch up to fleeing enemies or escape from oncoming foes.

Pride Eater
W (-- sec Cooldown)
(Passive) Okara heals herself for 2% of her maximum health every second she is separated from an allied Hero. While attached to an ally Hero, she heals the allied hero by 38 (+4% per level) health every second, at the cost of her own health. When Okara or her attached ally kills an enemy Hero, they both heal for 15% of their missing health.
(Active) This can only be used while attached to an allied hero. Okara dislodges from her attached Hero, granting the ally a shield for 1.5 seconds equal to all healing Okara has dealt to them since she attached.

Explanation: Pride Eater is another major part of Okara’s ability kit, serving almost as the second part of Shell of Sin, and where most of Okara’s healing comes from. In addition, this allows her to heal up quickly when she is detached from her allied hero, forcing her to switch from on her ally to off her ally at key points in fights. While all of Okara’s healing is over time, she can dislodge at key moments to grant her ally immense shields to survive burst damage with proper usage.

Pummeling Wrath
E (12 sec Cooldown)
Okara targets an enemy within 5.5 units of her and starts to unleash a pummel of blows against them rapidly for up to 3 seconds, or until range is broken. The enemy is dealt 10 (+4% per level) damage every 0.2 seconds, and reducing the enemy’s armor by 3 every hit, stacking up to 30 reduction total. This armor reduction lasts for 3 seconds.

Explanation: Pummeling Wrath is a major source of Okara’s damage when she is not basic attacking, and determining when to basic attack, and when to use Pummeling Wrath can be a major difference between a good Okara and a bad one. Pummeling Wrath is naturally much easier to maintain when she is attached to an ally, and its high damage and crippling armor shred gravely encourage enemies to leave her range, making her a powerful duelist when she is working with an ally.

Ravenous Gluttony
Heroic #1 (15 sec Cooldown)
Okara targets an enemy within 5.5 units of her. If the enemy does not move outside of this radius within the next .8 seconds, Okara will grab them and pull them to her, dealing 120 (+4% per level) damage and healing herself for all damage dealt. In addition, each time she successfully grabs an enemy Hero, the cooldown of Ravenous Gluttony is reduced by 70%.

Explanation: For Okara’s heroics, I wanted to have low cooldown, impactful displacement abilities to compensate for the lower amount of in combat focus needed from the Okara player due to Shell of Sin. Ravenous Gluttony offers a unique pull effect that can provide Okara will a small bit of extra self healing, which can be crucial when maintaining an ally’s life in close range to enemies.

Fearful Isolation
Heroic #2 (15 sec Cooldown)
Okara winds up a mighty punch in a wide line in a target 4 unit direction over 1 second, then punches forward, knocking back the first enemy hit 8 units and dealing 170 (+4% per level) damage. This can displace enemies over terrain. If she hits an enemy Hero with this, she may cast this ability again within the next 2 seconds.

Explanation: Similarly to Ravenous Gluttony, Fearful Isolation focuses on disruption with a high uptime. Instead of pulling enemies, Fearful Isolation can be used over time to knock enemies away from Okara or her ally in critical moments, protecting them from dives that are just too dangerous, giving Pride Eater the time it needs to heal her ally or herself.

Tier 1 - Self Sustain

• Lingering Love: Each time Okara basic attacks an enemy Hero, she drains health from them, dealing 5 (+4% per level) damage every second for 5 seconds, and healing her for the amount dealt. This can stack up to 4 times.
• Coalescence of Arrogance: If Okara uses all of her charges of Doubt Artillery, her recharge time takes an additional 4 seconds. When she finally recharges, she is healed for 100 (+4% per level) health per enemy Hero hit by Doubt Artillery since her last heal from Coalescence of Arrogance.
• Savor Remorse: When Okara is attached to an allied hero with Shell of Sin, and that attached ally kills an enemy minion, Okara and her allied Hero heal for 1% of their missing health.

Tier 2 - Sacrifice

• Envious Glory: The amount of damage Okara absorbs from her allies affected by Shell of Sin is doubled. In addition, when Okara is dislodged from her attached ally through receiving CC or by Pride Eater, she also absorbs all negative effects the ally had.
• Stay of Hand: Enemies that are slowed by Doubt Artillery also have their damage reduced by 30% for 2.5 seconds. This can refresh, but not stack.
• Willing Generosity: Pride Eater’s healing dealt to her attached ally is increased by 50%.

Tier 3 - Close Range

• Touch of Loss: Okara’s first basic attack against any enemy every 5 seconds will deal 55 (+4% per level) bonus spell damage. In addition, all subsequent basic attacks against enemies during these 5 seconds will deal an additional 13 (+4% per level) spell damage.
• Lack of Remorse: Doubt Artillery, when used within 5 units, will instead cause Okara to slam down in a wide line in a 5 unit line after a 1 second delay, dealing the effects of Doubt Artillery to all enemies hit. Enemies hit within 3 units of Okara are additionally knocked slightly back, and dealt 25% increased damage.
• Tantrum of the Dead: While attached to an allied Hero with Shell of Sin, Pummeling Wrath’s next use’s damage is increased by 10% for every 2.5% maximum health her attached ally loses while connected, up to an additional 80% damage. In addition, while above 40% increased damage, Pummeling Wrath strikes every .1 seconds for 1.5 seconds, instead of every .2 seconds for 3 seconds.

Tier 4 - Heroics

• Ravenous Gluttony: Okara targets an enemy within 5.5 units of her. If the enemy does not move outside of this radius within the next .8 seconds, Okara will grab them and pull them to her, dealing 120 (+4% per level) damage and healing herself for all damage dealt. In addition, each time she successfully grabs an enemy Hero, the cooldown of Ravenous Gluttony is reduced by 70%.

Tier 5 - Non-Dependence

• Selfish Resentment: After not being attached to an allied hero with Shell of Sin for 4 seconds, Okara’s movement speed is increased by 15%, her damage dealt is increased by 20%, and she gains 10 Armor. However, after another 6 seconds, her damage dealt is instead decreased by 20%, and she loses 10 Armor.
• Cruel Joy: While Okara is not attached to an allied hero with Shell of Sin, her basic attack damage is increased by 10%. Each time she basic attacks an enemy Hero, Pride Eater’s self healing is increased by .5% for 2 seconds, stacking up to 4 times. Every time she basic attacks an enemy Hero past 4 stacks, the duration instead increases by .2 seconds and fully refreshes the existing duration. This excess duration continues on when Okara attaches to an allied Hero with Shell of Sin.
• Mournful Outlash: Pummeling Wrath can now be used while moving, and dislodging from her allied hero will reduce its cooldown by 35%. Additionally, when she dislodges with Pride Eater while using Pummeling Wrath, her target will take an additional 100 (+4% per level) damage instantly and be stunned for 1 second, ending the ability.

Tier 6 - Instability & Healing

• Abdicator’s Punishment: If Okara’s attached allied hero is brought to 1 health, Okara will deal damage to herself until she reaches 10% of her maximum health, healing her attached ally by all damage dealt. After 1 second, Okara will then launch herself up to 6 units to a target location, dislodging.
• Sentimental Sludge: Every time Okara basic attacks an enemy Hero, she applies a stack of Sentiment to them, which stacks up to 5 times and lasts for up to 5 seconds. When her attached ally deals damage to an enemy with Sentiment, Okara will consume 10 (+4% per level) of her health to heal the allied Hero by 20 (+4% per level) health per stack consumed. While Okara is below 25% health, allies cannot consume Sentiment.
• Embrace of Desire: When Okara is dislodged from her attached ally from either receiving CC or through Pride Eater, she instantly takes 10% of her maximum health in damage and leaves a part of her on the ally, continuing Pride Eater’s effects for as long as that 10% still has health. This talent does not take effect while Okara is under 30% maximum health.

Tier 7 - Storm Tier

• Fiend of Feasting: Ravenous Gluttony now gains a second charge, fully refreshes the cooldown upon successfully pulling an enemy, and can be targeted on minions and non-Boss mercenaries, instantly killing them and healing Okara for their health. However, if Okara uses a second charge while she is in the process of using the first one, it costs 5% of her maximum health.
• Fragments of Fright: Whenever Okara successfully hits an enemy Hero with Fearful Isolation, part of Okara goes with them, dealing 2.5% of her maximum health in damage to herself. Upon landing, the enemy is rooted for 1 second and Okara restrains them, then slows them by 50%, decreasing by 5% for each 1 unit they move from their landing location.
• Ballistic Mistrust: Doubt Artillery gains 3 more charges, and each shot recovers at the same time, every 8 seconds. In addition, Doubt Artillery gains 4 range. However, enemies hit by Doubt Artillery more than 3 times within 4 seconds take 50% reduced damage from all subsequent shots.
• Boundless Rancor: Pummeling Wrath now lasts indefinitely, applies effects from Okara’s basic attacks, and each strike reduces its cooldown by 1 second. In addition, Okara can be using Pummeling Wrath on multiple enemies at once.
