Bring back the old gazlowe

He was my main untill the talent rework.

I played him once after the rework and never played him again.

He was changed into a character for people who did not care to learn how to play the original gazlowe.

The master of area control.

Gone were the days of:

  • Turret city
  • Punishing divers by stunlocking them with 3 charges of Xplodium
  • Big lazorz pew pew

Fellow Gazlowe enjoyers feel free to add to the list of your favorite old gazlowe tactics.

He was homoginised and it took away that which made him unique.

Bring him back pretty please <3

With kind regards

Old Gaz was factually worse than the current one, though neither versions are very good.

Old bomb would never hit anything because it took forever and a half to explode. It would only be used on minions or with Grav’O Bomb.

His sustain used to totally suck, and his laser was borderline useless. No one would ever be hit by a full charge laser unless they were playing drunk.

And you should understand why they won’t let the character put down infinite turrets. The balance justification is pretty obvious.

But you don’t care to learn the current Gazlowe.

It seems that your issue is mainly that it changed, not that there’s something wrong with it.

Old bomb not hitting anything seems like a skill/timing issue.

The point of the old bomb was also area denial.

His lazor did not suck and was usefull in many ways.

Turrets weren’t infinite per sé and could be destroyed but the point was if you leave Gazlowe alone too long it would become much harder to get to him or out of his safety bubble.

Why should I care to learn to play the new gazlowe when he’s been changed into a generic bruiser? There are already plenty of those.

I would say it’s more of a skill issue on the part of a person who walks into a stun with a 3 second telegraph and area indicator

Factually, lol. On something that is entirely subjective.

Phaseshifter showing yet again, how clueless one has to be, to miss an instant fire on release super fat AOE beam. I can’t believe someone would have such confidence to put a spotlight on how hard something was for something that is so easy to do. His laser builds were less popular but were not lower win rate. So just more garbage history revisionism.

His bombs were harder to land, but still an incredibly more useful zoning tool, more impactful when they did land, and had more opportunities to use them depending on how you talented and utilized scraps.

I’ll forever miss the old Gazlowe. His trait was the best thing about him. You actually felt excited getting those scraps.

But the new Gazlowe still has a similar kit with a uniqueish gameplay style as like a not so great front lining bruiser mage. One I don’t particularly enjoy. I do not feel the same about Tassadar which feels very similar to other mages, that didn’t justify completely reworking a play style that just largely doesn’t exist anymore.

Those two sentences contradict each other.

The old bomb took 2.5 seconds to detonate. And the travel speed of the bomb when you activated it was also slower. No one is going to stand still for 3 seconds. So hitting with it vas not tied to skill. And as far as zoning goes, 2.5 seconds was plenty of time to just walk through it before it exploded if you needed to interrupt an objective chanel, so it was bad at that too. (Also, the timer shown did not count down actual seconds, which was counterintuitive)

The current bomb costs no mana (or scrap) ,
has a lower cooldown,
faster travel speed,
lower explosion delay (1.25 seconds instead of 2.5).

I can’t see why anyone would want the old one instead.

You’re not giving any examples.

Current Laser
costs no mana,
Way lower cooldown (8 seconds)
Increased damage
40% more range
Heals for 75% of the damage dealt to heroes (25% of damage dealt to anything else.)

Again, There’s no reason to want the old version

Gazlowe could have turrets running across the entire map. As long as you had something to AA they would not expire. This was unbalanced so it was removed. On Dragon Shire all you had to do was get there first and setup a bunch of turrets and the opponent could not resolve that situation, Especially with his old “Engine Gunk” talent (I used it myself, but I always knew it was busted)

Why should current players care to learn to play the old Gazlowe?

He has all the same abilities as before. Turrets, bomb, lazer. So if he’s generic now, he was generic before.

Also, you said it yourself, you played ONE game. Instead of adapting to something new, you just got angry that something you were used to changed, and just left. It would be one thing if you had played several hours of both versions. But since you know almost nothing of the current version of the character, the devs are never going to take your feedback seriously as you have no credibility when you say it’s worse than the old one.

It’s based on a one game sample from 6 years ago.

The bomb took 3 seconds to explode, red evil circle is so dodgeable the ability would do nothing outside of wavecleae or every 60 seconds grav bomb.

Gazlowe was just not real lol.

Notice how every single one of these is extremely polarizing and frustrating to face?

Except that he objectively was one of the weakest characters in the game.

I played a lot of the old Gazlowe. Turret city was probably my favorite build, but I also loved the GazLord. It was loads of fun to go all melee and make it past level 20. You’d clean out most assassins in like 3 basic hits.

I also was not happy with where the rework left me. Suddenly, I had this hero that the game says I know how to play—and matches me accordingly—and I don’t know how to play him anymore. It became obvious pretty fast that I was the one not carrying my weight. So I stopped playing him and moaned for the old one back.

I’ve been picking him more often, and because he’s not played by hardly anyone these days, people don’t really know how to put up with him. And, there’s a whole lot more builds I can try with him.

What it comes down to for me is that I needed a break. I’ve been having fun with him lately.

Except he was not. He had a positive win rate. His pick rate was lower, but still higher than heroes like TLV. There was a perception he was weak, but that didn’t bare out in the data. In fact right after he was reworked, he was so weak, they had to buff him, which just shows you can buff any hero to be viable.

People are free to like the new version, but in my subjective opinion, he is way less fun. And what’s worse, is they could have encouraged more bruisercentric builds as a choice by adding talents instead of just reworking him to whatever he is now.

He wasn’t one of the weakest characters if you knew how to play him. The numbers don’t show it either.

And why is it a bad thing that his strong points are frustrating to face? Sounds more like people want to have it easy fighting Gazlowe rather than having to put in effort.

What you are missing is that they either worked too well or did not work at all. Getting oneshotted by lazers was as fun as seeing your goblin going AFK for several minutes to stack turrets in the worst place possible.

You still haven’t explained how old bomb or Lazer were better than the current version…

new gaz is good 5000+ games indeed

Old Gazlowe (and former-Specialists in general) were all changed because they were terrible for the modern game.

Having a good PvE meant nothing if the PvP potential was awful. Also the fact he used to use Mana made him more clunky than he should have been.

He wasn’t bad at pvp though, especially for objective fights where you had to stay put in an area which allowed his kit to shine. The fact that low skill players may have gone off to just pve and not utilize that pvp potential is an entirely different matter. Laser actually did quite a lot of damage if people were even semi clumping because of how fat the beam was. Also so satisfying to use as a finisher because of the increased range. And his grav bomb combo was way more lethal than today.

His mana was fine if you were diligent about picking up scraps, something that is not really easy to do or as useful now because of how fast they expire and its more limited function. Honestly, more heroes should have higher mana tension. His had a really interesting interaction with his CDs as well as getting bonuses from structure kills so you could capitalize on tempo from winning objectives, which is a choice you could make instead of just derping down the lane like most off laners entirely ignore objectives in early game.
