Arthas rework is a huge nerf instead of a buff

Arthas on live has 3.1k base health, on PTS he has 2.7k (you will explode at the first stun with that low hp, you are more squishy than an Anubarak with shield on him) , his AA speed is reduced from 1.0 to 0.9 so lower AA dmg (-9%), barelly compensated by the Frostmourne base attack buff which is not that signficiant even at lv 20 if u got out of your way to gather 60 stacks of Frostmourne, you will be rewarded by just +30 AA dmg compared to live , which is stupidly small, cause of the lower attack speed. Take into account remorseless winter dmg nerfed from 43/s to 36/s, you will gather 60 frostmourne stacks if you are lucky to just do 1% more dmg at lv 20. This is not rewarding at all.

Remorseless winter on live is 11 mana/s on PTS it’s 13/s, that’s cancer for mana control.

His old death coil build is ruined: you can’t use it offensivelly anymore, it healz for -400 HP less than it did with embrace death at lv 20, it’s range and damage is so small you can’t even use it for pokes anymore. The 9s cd penalty if you use it for dmg will make you never coil offensivelly again, even if you coil 2 targets, you stil get less heal 1.2k vs 1.4k than the old embrace death.

his greatest lv 20 talent : Death’s Advance is removed from the game and replaced with a johanna mount escape

If the only thing ur gonna give Arthas after 10 years is just a slightly more useful army of ghouls to a tank that can’t stun or kite, and takes forever to build slow compared to a varian instant lion maw, better just delete him from the game. The lv 16 antimagic shell won’t compensate the ireparable damage you did to this hero.

There’s nothing for Arthas in this patch that will make him better than a twinblade Varian and nobody wants a Twinblade Varian on their team, cause he can’t burst or crowd control. But atleast twinblade varian has strong AA dmg, mobility, self heals,a block and a healing nerf, Arthas is just a joke of a hero now, not a tank, not a bruiser.

I’m an Arthas player in Storm League. He’s by far my favorite tank. The thing I like about Arthas, in his current form, is that he feels like a tank with agency. I pick Arthas when I know that I need to be extremely disruptive. I also appreciate that he has decent dps, wave clear, self-healing, etc. with the Death Coil build + Frostmourne Hungers build.

It seems as if Arthas is being neutered. To increase the cost of Remorseless Winter and remove Frostmourne Hungers’ mana talent at level 1 means that Arthas is going to be perpetually OOM. In the past, a build like this had a tradeoff — Arthas would be significantly squishier without Rime or have a neutered Howling Blast, but he could reliably maintain his mana pool throughout the game and serve as a constant threat. With the current PTR build, that playstyle is gone.

What I don’t understand is why Arthas was nerfed so badly. Was his winrate out of control? What was wrong with the current established playstyle?

Just because a tank isn’t as popular as Muradin doesn’t mean that there’s something intrinsically wrong. Arthas serves his niche in the meta. Don’t change that.

It’s depressing how the developers think they buffed him, nobody plays AA build in upper ranks, especially since the last patch when sylv and thrall delete you out of existence if they only breathe near you, in most fights u will get a max of 2-3 AA until the whole fight is compromised and they decided to buff the AA style and nerf everything else to the ground.

Arthas is already an offmeta tank, now people will hate you for drafting Arthas as much as they hate a Morales healer, literally the worst tank in the game and they nerf him harder.

How are they even comparable???

Good callout. I didn’t notice the base stat changes because they weren’t written in the PTR Patch Notes. His new talents are pretty good though, a lot just got extra affixes, so he probably needs to lose power somewhere.

The health cut is sizable but he’s not Anub’arak low (2.2k). His new health amount is most similar to Johanna, Mei, and Mal’Ganis. Maybe 2.9k would be ok instead if this is too much a cut.

I actually like the base attack speed reduction, it puts more value into the attack reset on his D, and makes him feel more “hefty”. But his base attack damage should be increased a bit in return.

Arthas without his Embrace Death Talent will heal for 25% less, and he can’t poke damage with a coil, it used to do 600 dmg, now it does 300. So you are just left with AA build, which takes 10-20s to build up +60% attack speed, which won’t happen since you will be poked to death and stunned in 2 seconds if you even try to get close, so yeah, he is now a inferior version of Twinblade Varian, where you hope you stick on someone for 10s and nobody nukes you.

You are saying this as if they removed everything that made Arthas strong.
Comparing him to TB Varian makes no sense. They fulfill completely different roles.

Not anymore, Arthas is no longer a root or coil build, he is an AA monkey

i mean at least its lore accurate. Malg tempted him with the sword

The only tank in the game where divers walk past him and they nerf him more, good job Activision Blizzard. It will be fun to tank with lower hp and lower healing.

I loved Arthas but they made the ghul ult much worse

Please remove the Arthas Ghul change, it could be better on paper but in reality it is just less user friendly and unreliable.

I loved Arthas how he was, maybe the rework was neccessary, maybe not.

The thing is: he isn’t performing how he used to and it’s mostly about ghuls being always available but unresponsive and unreliable. Controlling the ghuls and their healing used to be much easier.

Thats most likely because how he plays now is not how he was meant to be played in the past. Malganis for example pre rework was very aggro and bulky, but now is very squishy. If you try to do the same things for him that worked in the past when he was that bulky now you get punished and fried
