Hots was a marketing disaster at many points. And it started during the beta already. Why would you make a beta this exclusive when there are already strong moba’s competing with each other. The exclusivity only made those other 2 games settle themselve as the standard.
Because hots wanted to create a diffirent standard of gameplay, its creating a conflict, those who are used to the other games do not want to relearn mechanics. And those who like the game as it is now, dont want those mechanics to change. You cant cater both, but its certain that changing these things is going to backfire more than it helps.
The only way that hots can be saved, is if a hots2 is made. Because then its a new game, settled gameplay (but still alterations possible), and a fresh marketing campaign.
Bad marketing doesnt instantly mean the successor is going to fail aswel. Im 100% sure that a no mans sky 2 is going to be a success aswel. Just because they created a decent game in the end, even though at release it was a failure. Thats a reputation that will stick.
For hots the downside is that its a multiplayer game which is a bit harder to boost. But with decent gameplay, marketing can do their job fine. And the gameplay in hots is fine. All issues we currently see are purely due to a lack of playerbase (MMR not doing a well enough job).
One, you should either look up the word arbitrary in the dictionary or realize that the way you’re using it everything is arbitrary and hence the word is not an actual insult. Two, more than “item” metas the most conspicuous metas in this type of multiplayer games are character metas. Yet stale metas do not justify the exclusion of an aspect, nor do you understand what determines the staleness and degree of a meta, nor do you understand the benefit of a particular aspect. Talents have metas too despite what some ladder pick rates may indicate and I’ve yet to see a single person justify removing talents from the game because some are more useful than others. Three, you mention no specifics. It’s as if you decided you needed to make at least one on-topic comment to look less embarrassing but all you achieved was demonstrating that you have nothing to offer to a discussion. Your impudent implication that you won some sort of imagined argument in your head with those two pithy sentences is the cherry on top of the nothing cake that your presence is.
Ironically the main argument of the opening post was that the powers appeared to provide a lot of choice for Jaina. It’s a start.
At least reading this post made me chuckle, but that may have been because it was the first thing I read. This level of thoughtlessness gets old quickly. On the bright side, someone learned the difference between mute and moot today, so the world became an infinitesimally better place.
There is one thing I fail to understand. How do you people have so little self-awareness? How do you not pause and ask yourselves, “What in the world am I doing here?” Like, how does it occur to you people that you won some sort of argument blurting out the first few inchoate sentences that pop into your heads when you’re obviously outmatched? Help me understand how you actually think because there is a floor to what I can conceive, and I can reach down low contrary to how I may come across.
If someone was holding a gun to my head while I was reading this post I would have begged them to pull the trigger.
Exactly, people need to stop saying “Oh LoL and DotA is more successful so every other MOBA should follow their format!” Right because making a carbon copy of 2 healthily successful games are gonna make said copy popular.
TL;DR of this OP: give HotS item system, make it into another LolTa2
Where do you see the carbon copy? What “item system”? It’s a mark that each hero will have on their body - the game’s logo - the inscriptions within which correspond to different powers. Everything is selected and ready to use when the gates open, with no per se passive modifiers. Choice and use is a decision.
Some of you have no imagination. It’s no wonder you can’t envision anything whatsoever except what is right before your eyes and the only thing you accept is the corpse of a game lying on the ground. Obviously not a very creative and productive quality.
This is a given, diversity always begets equality.
This is literally the reason Medallion got excluded. It create a CC spam meta.
I do actually.
Smash Brothers Melee has a stale meta, because the game hadn’t changed and a very small minority of the cast are competitively viable. Smash Brothers Ultimate on the other hand doesn’t, because it recieves balance updates and a majority of the cast is at least viable (if not good).
This is true, yet the fact that there are six that synergize with each other means that you can at least “Build” towards something (For examples picking all Storm Bow talents on Hanzo is better then picking at random, despite Q building being non-meta.) However, the problem with single fire stat buffs is that essentially, you are just giving all members of a certain role the same flat buff… Which will break things.
The question shouldn’t be “Could this be added” but “Why should this be added?”
And yet, at the end of the day, it’s an added extraneous system that just adds… Clunk that really isn’t needed. HotS is actually kinda balanced right now, better then it’s been in years.
Talents synergize with kits and don’t break things. Hell, since you people like to bring up items generic buffs are not exactly unproven. These powers provide defensive as well as offensive options. Let’s not pretend you’re making this argument out of anything but laziness. Arguing for the sake of arguing.
The answer to that question has been provided. It’s funny how little time you’re spending posting this tripe yet the implication is I’m the one without a basic understanding. Like what in the world do you think I bother writing for?
No, it’s an addition to the game to expand choice and execution, rewarding better players and promoting engagement. Clunk that really isn’t needed is what you contribute to the forum.
Talk about losing sight of the forest for the trees. HotS is actually kinda dead right now, deader than it has been in years. It’s notable that the only posters left about this forum are people like you. I just… I’m at a loss of words.
Not that it has any relation to your suggestions, but you probably already knew most of the discussion migrated to Reddit. There are zero devs left on forum and very few high ranks who bother to stay here and post.
Even Reddit’s top HotS posters simply quit though, it’s mostly people just mass upvoting a couple memes a week now.
It’s not a completely dead game yet, but it’s pretty damn close. I miss the old forum which had like a thousand posts a day. This is like a ghost town now. Makes me upset considering how much potential this had.
This is what I know. The subreddit was never a place for real discussion, it was always a place for weak developers to look at things through rose-colored glasses.
Games are where learning and figuring things out on your own should be fun. Not only is the bar very low but the application is exciting. As opposed to relentlessly learning math, science, history, etc. for a delayed pay-off that itself may be boring and mundane you’re learning a little bit of something that empowers you to have more fun immediately. The stuff of games works a lot better on the imagination and fulfills a competitive urge. It’s very foolish to strive for simplicity in games and it has been demonstrated time and time again, including by Blizzard themselves, that contrary to some fallacies complexity and/or challenge is what people really gravitate to. The most successful games tend to not be time sinks or relaxing experiences. The best games are fun in a serious dimension. Something happened to Blizzard that led them down a very different path from where they successfully started and built themselves, and the results speak for themselves.
Ironically the best thing about Heroes of the Storm and the best thing that could have happened to it is that it failed. The really hard and expensive work has already been done. Now it’s just lying there. I see very little risk in experimenting with this game and a potential serious reward.
How do you know the Devs have no “big ideas” for HOTS? Do you work for the team? Many people on the forums propose “big ideas” for the game, often too big for the budget allocated to HOTS, much like your own ideas which aren’t new or unique.
You also have already proposed these ideas in another thread where you shutdown all discussion by calling the Devs and the community “brain dead” and “unimaginative.”
I pay attention. As for the ideas posters suggest, the thought that goes into them, and the manner in which they do so that’s an obvious dead-end.
Quote me calling the devs “brain dead”. I wouldn’t go that far with them, and although I would like to go that far with posters moderators would quickly pounce on that. As for you, I can comfortably pick you apart in a discussion, as I have already done, instead of killing it. You simply don’t have anything worthwhile to contribute to a discussion, as you just showed. If I recall correctly - which I do - you claimed I attained the rare distinction of being blocked by you. Follow through, please.
Too bad it’s 2020 and within 8 hours of any system being posted, experts will have The Meta™ figured out, and will shove it down everyone’s throat like stiff chickens.
So trying to make a “cool custom amazing extra system that will definitely get more people involved” is pointless when it’s just going to get analyzed and perfected in a matter of hours.
One, I didn’t use the word amazing. Two, I believe there are more variables and even preferences involved for what you claim to be valid. Three, in addition to choice there is execution. For argument’s sake if the options are obvious their use in-game could still make the game more engaging. Four, meta slavery isn’t as pervasive of a phenomenon as you imagine.
Again, you’re trying to make an argument that goes against the very nature of doing anything not just in this game but in general. That is strange.
I can’t quote the posts as they were removed, including two posts yesterday insulting both the community and the Devs in this thread:
This is true. I like that you’re passionate about the game, so I wanted to see if you had written anything here that might be interesting to engage with. Instead I find it’s a repeat of your Old Thread, with your usual discussion style where you write a wall of text, and insult anyone who is critical of your ideas.
