I want a small buff

I noticed during my ragnaros career that VERY few people actually pick Q build ( unless a rag main coached them or they are smort people ) and many ppl value E build and W build in ARAM but not Q. my suggested buff is to make the initial target also take spell damage, and to put a 20% radius increase with the lvl 1 quest.

This will allow for a ton more flexibility and will reduce the existing counters ( illidan, blinds, freaking ILLIDAN xD ) and these buffs are not stat buffs, which makes them alot more acceptable and wont actually buff ragnaros that noticeably. ( im 90% sure this wont make his popularity go up more than 1% )

what do u think?

His Q build should get a bit more love from the dev team, now almost all you see is E build in every Storm League or Quick Match game, with the occassional Meteor build thrown in.

At release, everyone was playing Q build with him and he was an awesome bruiser-assassin.
Sadly the self healing, damage got nerfed a bit too much.

What also hurt him a lot was patch 2018-06-12:

Empower Sulfuras will now miss when Ragnaros is Blinded, and the Ability’s cooldown will be consumed.

Would be nice if he could smash with Q even against blinded targets and do Spell Damage like you said. As he did in the past.

I would enjoy smashing people easier.

Personally I see Q Rags a lot. Mostly E (still dunno how people make it work outside ARAM lol), then Q and finally barely any meatballs. They dont buff it because it doesnt seem to need any buffs. People pick Q often and win games.

EDIT

Wait so Q needs a buff or people need to l2p? Im confused :stuck_out_tongue:

They won’t do any buffs to Rag because you stopped playing

I thought the blind negating his Q was stupid. Then I thought about all the other bruisers who lose all their sustain when blinded. Then I tried dividing that number, but I kept getting zero…

How did your exams went btw?

yeah that’s pretty lame. Q should count as an ability and not be effected by blind IMO.

Illidan counter of Ragnaros? I thought it was the other way around. If I remember correctly the Q of Ragnaros is pure special damage so I should ignore the E of Illidan.

Are you for real? Last 2 months Q build has 42% pick rate and 57%(highest) win rate in master. We are not balancing game around ARAM. W build is picked in ARAM because it’s pokefest where you don’t get to fight in melee anywhere near as much as real games nor are you dual soaking there :weary:

Q already deals ‘spell’ damage, so the main quirk is the capacity for it to miss if he’s hit with a blind.

On the one hand, blinding attack-boosted mods is fairly consistent (intended) behavior, but on the other, there aren’t a whole lot that hit an aoe damage spike from an overhead swing onto the ground. So in visual terms, it’s kinda silly to have it ‘miss’ since he doesn’t really need to hit the main target.

When I play Rag, I tend to not take the Q quest for a few reasons

  1. it’s only a 30% damage boost (come later game) compared to the 75%+ increase he gets to his other abilities.
  2. If I have rag, more often than not, I end up having to do merc rotations, which just further delays the Q quest.
  3. The build up on the quest is pretty bad and doesn’t really help him complete the quest; it’s all about the end pay out at completion.
  4. His later Q talents aren’t really dependent on the lvl 1 quest; I can still take the cdr reduction and/or %hp damage talents without it. (since the %hp deals the damage over 3 seconds, it’s not reliant on the cdr talent either)

If the quest was less about raw damage on Q, and perhaps allowed some aoe damage to persist through blind/evasion, that would be a unique attribute to make that talent more appealing, but for me, I thing Q is already a solid as is, so the other talents are more appealing because those abilities need the extra boost to be worth their cdr when using a combo rotation.

I personally always love playing meteor build. As long as that dosen’t get gutted, I’ll be happy w/ any rag buffs

sometimes bad rags can pick Q, but actually getting value out of Q is the real issue. in my “how to rag” thread, i said that E build is the best build against squishies, because the followup of E is so good that its almost guaranteed a win if the enemy team is composed of mostly backliners. Q build actually shines when there are alot of frontliners like kerrigan and muradin, and it works in dragon shire really well too. HOWEVER, sometimes people pick Q build when its best to pick E. don’t get me wrong you can win with the wrong build. but you can do better with the other build. also, never trust online shenanigans, and also, these are not real buffs because Q used to hit regardless, and 20% radius increase is barely much :stuck_out_tongue:

i am doing better  thx for asking

yes, illidan is actually the hardest counter of ragnaros, on par with lunara. Q is AA damage, so its ignored by illidan’s E, and illidan is freaking ANNOYING

  4. xenterex:
if the enemy comp has alot of frontliners, do NOT resist picking Q build. you can practice in test mode or in vs ai ( if u want ) to get more stacks out of lvl 1 Q quest.

    1. use W ( meteor ) on the direction the enemy minions are going when they are in 1 line
    2. use ur AA on the archers to soften them up, then hit ur Q when the tanky minions are also low ( if one is about to die )

this will make u get at least 4 stacks of Q per wave, and up to 6. you can then finish it even before the first obj.

thank u for all the replies ^^

Just took a look at Ragnaros’s talent stats to see what’s going on. To be honest, his Level 1 talents are as close to perfectly balanced as you can get when looking at the whole game, and they get a bit worse, but still great for Q build, when you get to high level (this is extremely common, so I wouldn’t read too much into it since high level players tend to be much pickier about what they will take when it comes to talents).

Across the whole game, the pick rates look like this:

  1. Engulfing Flame: - 34.6%
  2. Sulfuras Hungers - 33.9%
  3. Shifting Meteor - 31.4%

High Level Storm League:

  1. Engulfing Flame - 46.6%
  2. Sulfuras Hungers - 40.8%
  3. Shifting Meteor - 12.5%

Also the win rates of the talents aren’t anything to write home about, they’re all pretty similar.

In this case, well that means that Q is pretty good. and yes, W build is very scarce to find in QM/draft because ragnaros isn’t known to have THAT much ranged damage, so the comps simply don’t require another ranged hero. yet the build itself is a great build in terms of damage. i was thinking that we can increase the quest requirement a bit for the buffs im proposing ( say, 5 extra? ), add the radius increase at the end of the quest, and passively make Q strictly spell damage.

imho, these simple things will spice up ragnaros a bit and include him further into the meta  .

( yep i hit the jackpot today logan  )
