First off, I’m not sure in which category this belongs, but I’m putting it here seeing as it regards general assistance with something that I should probably already know. I haven’t played Hearthstone in a while, but decided to get back in at The Year of The Dragon’s launch. Therefore, my question for you is thus: Do I need to have open quest slots before the first day of The Year of The Dragon in order to obtain the quest to get The Year of The Dragon’s hero? Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.
There will be no free hero this Year.
If you have not played in a long while, then you will get the special “returning player” experience, which consists of a series of three special quests.
Until you have completed these special quests, your account is likely to NOT receive special promotion quests. And there often are special promotion quests in the weeks before and after an expansion launches.
So even though there is no new hero skin this time, I still suggest that you clear at least the returning player quests, and try to always have at least one quest slot open for the next two months.

Advice for you:
Mobilize all dust you have and craft Genn and Baku in gold (3200 dust each). You’ll get 3200 back for both and then you can dust them both for 1600 each on top of that … that’s how you make 2 free legendaries without any effort

No problem.
If you have even more dust, you could go the extra mile and craft the druid epic and also rotating card “gloomstag” in golden 2 times (1600 dust each) which you’ll also get your dust back and then dust them later for a total of another 800 dust.
The rest of the rotating cards you’ll only make a small profit from. I only crafted them golden because I actually play wild and this is my best chance to get them in gold without paying anything.
Schwifty also forgot the other Odd Epic Glitter Moth because everyone forgets Glitter Moth.
In answer to your actual question, while there are no new year quests confirmed for the start of the year, it’s probably best to keep a quest slot open anyway.
Keep your gold to open new packs ;p

I forgot that one because I got 2 moths from packs and when I did my crafting for rotation, I skipped them because disenchanting them and crafting them golden makes no difference if you want to dust them anyways.
