Wins and loses don't feel earned

I have played about 15 games today hovering between 200-300 legend with dragon warrior. Every games boils down to who draws their op cards on curve (acceleration aura, sltherdrake, eternal hold) or who gets the better dark gift discover in the mirror. The skill gap has been completely removed. The games I win I crush my opponent easily and the ones I lose I feel as if I didn’t even have a chance.

Yup yup, ya nailed it not much to add to post other than agreeing with ya, its also why i sit in the 5k’s at the moment cause the three decks mentioned are not ones i like much.

The game has always relied on whoever plays their win condition(s) first.

Netdecks also always been a thing, there’s no skill involved for netdecking.

maybe they will make this an actual card game and not a slot machine card game, i wish it was real RNG and NOT made so people stay at 50% winrate

It hasnt always relied on it. There was play and counterplay. The broken stuff is currently happening on turn 2 or 3 without any counterplay. Dark gift generator on 1 into turn 2 5/9 with upside is actually not an uncommon play. Wins AND losses both feel unearned about 30ish percent of the time in my experience at legend

Awh yes the turn two +4+5 buffing dragon opener dicovered from the dark gift discover minion on one, yay, that sucks ti have to face in turn two

Check your win/loss ratio vs being on and off the coin. That will be the eye opening moment for you.

It’s an ugly fiesta of who draw better from the start in most cases. I’m not even talking about imbue decks which are commonly slow from the opposite side.

People finally waking up to what I was saying 5+ expansions ago. The reason is bad control cards and busted power creep cards they use to sell the expansion then nerf to irrelevance after the next one.

That’s why they all have mechanics and synergy, so that you have to get them all. They can’t make control good because then aggro babies will complain and you won’t need all the new cards to win a game. They also suck at balance so you get stuff like the Starcraft mini set where they made something too broken, which actually allowed other archetypes to exist by extending the game.

The little effort required to get Legend in this game is just… sad.

Yes this is the most stupid part of it. I normally had like a 4 or 5% difference between being on coin or not. But in current season my stats are 64% without coin and only 47% with coin. It’s ridiculous how much going first helps. And I don’t even play aggro or dragon warrior, this is with merithra druid, quest priest, and rogue lol.

The game design leans heavily on making a space for people to play the game that dont otherwise do well in games. Ever see someone playing online slot machines that offer no real money when you win? Thats what you are doing, its just a prettier version. Once you understand that even the top ranked hearthstone player can do very little to influence the outcome you will learn the best way to play this game is never spend any money and just use it as filler when you are multi tasking. Also be sure to have a good laugh when you see the true clowns of the game, which is anyone with a digital pet or mythic skin from the slot machine.

Eh the pet and some of the skins can be gotten for free if you are lucky. But I agree that those who spend 150 or whatever it is are insane.

Control sucks because you can only act on your own turn which means all of your responses and counter plays can only happen after you get already got hit by the wombo combos. That means the only control mechanism that actually functions well in this game is Armoring up to tank the wombo combo and if that mechanism is too good the game becomes a very boring grind of nothing ever happening as games will devolve control mirror matches of doing nothing but stacking armor for 50 turns until the turn limit.

I really didn’t like how the past few years they pushed control into that sit and wait till turn 8+ then bust out the combo and win the game. Old control with minions like we have now is far more entertaining. It’s hard but not impossible and that is where it should be as long as hyper aggression is risky as well. Vomiting your hand to the board but having instant reload is bad design for aggressive decks. They should have to make the decision to go all in and not get rewarded for doing it frequently.

I fear the Specter of the Warrior quest is going to haunt a meta at least one more time before it all goes to wild. The 2 card combo you can get with discount is just waiting for the right 2-3 cards to be created this year. At which point it will obsolete any other type of control because the combo is the trump play to a traditional control deck.

The game has just turned into discover an out or lose, which to me is boring game play. They need to reign in what can be discovered or generated. The whole any card for any mana cost thing they have going now has just turned the game into a bad joke. Discover is ok when its limited or at the very least class card limited but when you can discover any card in the history of the game and a mana reduction is also applied well its just flipping coins at that point.

As far as slow decks go.. I dont see what the difference is between a deck like 1 mana hunter card vomit vs something like DK/Shaman/Priest that just wants to stall so it can do a mana/stat vomit on turn 9 rather than in the first 4 turns. People that thing that slow deck strategies are somehow different than fast deck strategies are deluded.. You’re just choosing to do the thing on turn 9 rather than in the early game.

I’ve always hated mirrors because technically versus an equally skilled opponent the mirrors deciding factor is always RNG.

However I will say there have been very strong trends in hearthstone that have made every game feel like a mirror:

  1. Room for skill expression is basically non existent, they’ve dumbed down every deck and mechanic to the point that everything feels like you are top decking or playing a slot machine.
  2. This is an intentional trend to make the game more approachable. Sad. Now everything feels like the mirror because the first few cards drawn decide everything.

yes this is a card game…game depends a lot on drawing the card you need when you can make the most of them

i understand when people rant about specific cards like paladin flight maneuvers …but something as genering as wining games whne you draw the cards you need … is like you dont underastand what card games are!
