So far just playing with freebie decks. I seem rather lost on how to build decks or the effects of the cards. Just played against a warlock, I won with a priest, but I really don’t know how I did it. Is this normal?

Welcome! When I was new I just played the game and learned the effects game by game and by reading the tool tips.
But it is helpful to look into the Wiki if you are confused about certain keywords and card interactions.
Deck building is difficult even for experienced players. A helpful site for this is this one.

It shows the current successful decks and their win rate. By using the filters you can filter for your game mode and class.

Do you mean you literally do not understand what the cards do?
Or do you just mean it’s hard to remember all the various cards?
