The new Paladin cards are garbage

Stand alone, they are dust and will not be consistent or reliable enough by themselves to help paladin at all.

1 HP?

C’mon devs, it’s not April Fools for another year.

75% chance they relate to the Paladin quest.

Quest: play 5 1-health minions
Reward: Good old times
Passive hero power: reduce the cost of Equality in your hand and deck by 2

I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Quest reward give your minions automatic Divine Shield or something. It’d play to one of Paladin’s “strengths”, work with several of their synergies and cover (to a degree) the weakness of playing something with low health.

That’s my guess.

That or Reborn.

Reborn stronger on base. DS has more combos.

Standalone most cards people play are garbage. You can’t say anything about the cards until you see a big chunk of the expansion.

When it comes to small minions I’ve learned the hard way that you shouldnt underestimate them. Remember a 1/1 that was insanly OP and whined on everywhere.

Also 1 health sure its not alot but against alot of classes 1/2 health doesnt make that big of a difference, that 2/1 Zealot for example will often be able to value trade with a 2 mana minion and keep board control plus Paladin got a secret that buff health which might come in handy.

I’m not gonna say that Aggro Paladin because thats what these cards will go into mostly will be the next meta. But I wouldnt underestimate the potential of it either. Alot of weak minions on paper have seen plenty of play while alot of strong minions on paper saw no play what so ever.

It all comes down to deck synergy and what happens, and to rule out aggro Paladin completely is premature. Since we don’t have the full scoop of the expansion yet.

I agree that at a first glance these card doesnt look that special but Patches kinda was the same deal a 1/1 with Charge I remember people laughing at him on the forums. They didnt laugh for long once he was released though.

I already see potential to make shirvalla a little faster.

Yeah

IF there is a quest that requires playing 1 HP minions to complete for some INSANELY good value…(mere speculation)

1 HP is still terrible.

So far the only GAURENTEE we have to go by so far is terrible stats and awful effects.

Especially compared to the cards revealed for other classes.

On top of which, they actually have support for said archetype niche.

1 HP…1 hp.

lol

I remain unconvinced by any claims here that these will be good…hell even ‘ok’ cards.

I remember when taunt druid first came out and people said it would be trash without waiting to see all the cards. Seems like there is something to be said about learning from the past, but hey who cares.

I wouldn’t discount the new cards so quickly. The deathrattle of the Pride and Battlecry of the Wasp are solid, and could be semi-reasonable inclusions in a deck depending on what kind of support the archetype gets. For example, if Paladin’s quest grants something like +2 Health or (as others have mentioned) Divine Shield to minions with 1 Health when they’re summoned, then I could definitely see a low Tier 2/3 deck popping up. This also ignores any possible support the archetype might get in future sets as well.

Of course, this archetype could easily flop and become the next Freeze Shaman. My point is that people have jumped to conclusions in the past about other archetypes, and have been proven wrong on multiple occasions. While 1 Health is certainly a downside, there are definitely ways that this weakness could be shored up and mitigated.

What if the quest reward is aHP that sets the health of a minion equal to its attack?

The 2/1 for 1 can snowball hard if left alive. Plus, it’s removal bait. The 3/1 for 2 with battlecry is great for token or handbuff decks. And again, if left alive can trade well with a higher paying minion. The 3/1 for 3 with death rattle is a great tutored draw engine.

I think these cards will push agro pally and help with a few archetypes already in place.

Ping damage/AoE isn’t as prevalent right now plus isn’t very optimal if included in most cases.

How about you freaking wait for more cards to be revealed before already whining?! Jeeeez man!

Penace for Odd Paladin.

Patches was op because you could cheat him out out of your deck by playing another pirate body effectively thinning your deck of 1 bad draw and adding extra pressure, if you drew him turn 1 he wasn’t a remarkable minion at all.

It’s bad?

The cards are good for swarming the Board. Similar to how the 2/1 Squirel Guy help Druids Swarm. You do get tempo spending 1 mana for stuff that encourages a 2 mana Hero Power answer. I wouldn’t completely dismiss the new Paladin stuff just because its 1 health until we have a chance to play with them against other people. Paladin also has Never Surrender to Negate 1 damage AoE spells from wiping the board and the non spell based AoE is 5 mana so its possible you just die to an agro swarm Paladin before you get there.

1 HP doesn’t stop cards like Druid of the Swarm, Microtech Controller, Timber Wolf, etc from all being used in Tier 1 decks. They’re good because of the synergies printed for them, and there’s more than enough promise for this archetype to get a similar treatment in this set. It’s nothing but lazy doomsaying to go on about how “tHeY hAVe 1 hP AnD tHat mAkEs thEm aLwAYs BaD” before the rest of the set has been spoiled.

I wonder if the Paladin Quest might be related to Secrets? Tutoring/generating cheap minions to account for Divine Favor being gone, then supporting your small army with Paladin’s Secret package.

Pulling specific minions with Crystology and Salhet’s Pride leaves you Secrets in your deck for cards like Beringer Sentry to more reliably pull, even later in the game.
