100% agreed.
Matchmaking and MMR needs to either go away or massively revamped.

There are no matches in this game determined by skill. Every game is determined by one thing. Right cards, right time, win. Donāt get that? Lose. Period. You canāt make a āwrong playā if you never had the cards to make a āright playā in the first place, while your opponent simultaneously has practically hand picked cards
The ranks are utterly meaningless since you arenāt an active participant in the outcome other than swiping up on your phone to play a card. I wonder if people who buy the $80 sets that come out just before an xpac have better RNG?
They donāt do it in Legend.
Players below legend should not see ranks because they will know if their opponents are far or close to a rank floor and they will concede more often to help their opponents to climb.
Post 1-2 replays and I am almost sure that I will find a lot of moves that you did wrong. Some of them could determine whether you win or lose and you chose the wrong way. Thatās why you are at Diamond 5.
(But I agree that rng ā if it is rigged or not ā can determine whether you are top-5 or top-25, top-500 or top-1000, top-5000 or top-7000, etc)
Itās true only until you hit Legend. Once you hit legend you can see everyone ranks. Now I also know part of the reason why the Diamond ranks are so much more difficult to progress through. Your opponents are Legend ranks 5000 and up.
Iām not saying Iām perfect but I will say this, now that I finally hit Legend, knowing that as a Diamond 5 my opponents were of Legend rank makes much more sense.
ā¦another piece to the puzzle. Players arenāt always being matched by similar skill.
MMR isnāt a perfect measurement of skill. In a game with so much RNG influencing outcomes itās even worse. Assuming MMR is only(mostly?) based on wins and losses you are bound to face people noticeably better or worse sometimes.
We also donāt know how wide of an initial search the game does when selecting players of similar skill or even the scale of their MMR. Regardless of how high a number it goes up to, how similar in skill is 750 to 755, 450 to 500, 1k to 2k? Too many unknowns.
Congrats on Legend!
You (while staying at Legend rank) can be matched with a player at D5, of similar skill level. Does this make sense?
By the way, MMR does not reflect true skill level (because all the games donāt really have the metrics and indicator to accurately assess skill level). We could say MMR reflects (short-term) performance, which includes skill level, time played and RNG ofc.
Congratulations!
The matchmaking IS based on your deckā¦
NOPE!
You would have to match players according to the deck and not according to their rank, you would have to HIDE RANK for THIS!!!
OH WAITā¦.![]()
Meanwhile ranks are not hidden in legend and mean nothing below legend
The game is scripted. A set percentage of matchups are predetermined guaranteed losses that are designed to encourage purchases.
Anyone arguing differently is defending a multi billion dollar corporation; which in itself is an odd choice
Thank you!! (20 chars)
I was Just matched with a D3 so⦠Weāre not being matched on skill. Weāre being matched based on what Blizzard decides the outcome should be. If they want to push someone who paid $1000 for cards, then you will be matched based on what works for that player.
Do you think you are more skilled than him because you are in Legend? 2 hours before your match they might have been D5 and 2 hours after your match they might have also been legend (or D5 lol).
My point being that rank is not a suitable method of determining a players skill. Even the best players start at Bronze every month.
No flame, but if you tag a diamond player you must be at the bottom of the ladder. It indicates that your mmr is still in diamond ranks.
And you dont always tag legend player when you are diamond, far from that if you lose a lot; you can tag diamond 10 or even plat at rank 5 diamond.
Btw congrats on legend hit!
There is so much hilarious cope in this thread.
Comedy gold.
What Iām saying, and what everyone else is saying is that matchmaking has NOTHING to do with skill. Blizzard picks their winners. Itās no secret. Thereās a very public patent backing up our statements. And if you believe that a player who is using a 68% win rate deck can be held to a 27% win rate based on being matched with like skilled players, then⦠lol OK then bud.
If you seriously believe your wins and losses are based on your skill then by all means, believe what you wish in spite of the obvious. Itās your bubble, live in it if thatās what makes you feel self empowered.
Then why do you keep playing this game?
If i believed the game is rigged, no matter what i play nor what decision i make, it ās still the rigged system decide the outcome, then i didnāt see any reason to keep playing that game.
Ok, that doesnāt explain the part I quoted though.
You clearly pointed out your opponent was a D3 as if that was evidence. Which is why I replied talking about it.
Moving onā¦
Do you actually believe the deck has a 68% win rate? If every matchup is decided before the game even starts those numbers would obviously be incorrect.
Also, what happened to this?
This was only 8 days ago lol.
The rigged system changed its mind and allow him to reach legend. It ās the only answer he could give.
